Rudolph Turns 50! Christmas #Giveaway

2014 Christmas Giveaway

Nancy T. is a genuine fan of Rudolph and was happy to receive the books to aid her in writing about this sponsored campaign.

The stores have been filled with holiday cheer since before Halloween, I’m seeing houses already decorated with lights and inflatables, and as I write this, it’s been snowing since yesterday. Like it or not, Christmas is around the corner, and one of the first things we do during the Christmas season is pull out the DVD of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or just plain Rudolph as it’s known in our house.

50YearsRudolph

Can you believe this year marks the 50th anniversary of the first broadcast of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” the longest running and highest rated holiday special of all time?  While DVDs and DVR recordings make it easy to watch Rudolph year-round, when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s, my sister and I waited anxiously for the annual airing on CBS, scouring the TV Guide and begging to stay up to watch it, as 8pm was bedtime. I remember singing along to the songs, being a little scared of the Bumble, not that I’d admit it, and cheering when Rudolph saves the day.

I shared the special with my own kids when they were toddlers and it’s still one of their favorites, even with all of the other Christmas movies and shows that have inundated the airwaves. Lines from the movie are part of our vernacular – “Eat, Papa! Eat!” is one that’s used almost daily at mealtimes. I remember one year my then-5-year-old watched it almost daily, until I finally hid the DVD some time in February.

We have Rudolph decorations, ornaments, and I even have an Island of Misfit Toys tee shirt.  To say that the red-nosed reindeer is a big part of our Christmas celebration would be an understatement. Which is why I’m thrilled to share this wonderful giveaway with all of you!
