This giraffe costume is so cute and fun for girls of all ages to wear for Halloween. A DIY giraffe costume is a unique and creative costume that is warm enough for trick-or-treating and pretty enough for a party.
DIY Giraffe Costume
We’ve made this giraffe costume with a warm faux fur capelet and a striped tutu. We used the same giraffe pattern fabric for the capelet, the tail, as well as the ears and horns headband.
Sophia wore a cream-colored, long-sleeve t-shirt and tights. For shoes, she wore little black jazz shoes.
We love to design costumes that allow an option to wear during the day at school and then add layers of warmth in the evening for trick-or-treating.
To stay warm for trick-or-treating, kids can add cream-colored leggings on top of the tights. The faux fur capelet helps to keep them warm, but kids can also layer multiple shirts or a sweater under the capelet to stay extra cozy if they’ll be out in really cold weather.

More DIY Halloween Costumes
We make Halloween costumes each year for our three girls. We have a fantastic time designing and creating the costumes and love sharing our ideas with you. Our tradition really got going with this incredibly easy to make bat costume. And then one of the warmest and coziest designs was for these cat costumes we made when they girls were young. They were fantastic for trick-or-treating.
Last year, we made these DIY costumes for tweens and teens… Sophia was as a panda bear, Olivia was a brown bear, and Julia was a cat.
And the year before they wore these pretty costumes for girls — a unicorn, fox, and bunny. As you can see our design for our giraffe costume is based on the style we created for these animal costumes. It works so well that our girls often want to use a similar pattern for other costumes.
