Be mine… with these Furry Monster Valentines Cupcakes! Sure, they look mean on the outside – but they’re full of love (and sweetness!) on the inside.
Yes, yes, yes! Hey, everyone! It’s Lisa and I am ultra excited because, well, Valentine’s Day happens to be one of my favorite holidays. So I’m thrilled to share some super cute Valentines cupcakes with you. Also, be sure to check out these ideas for fun Valentines gifts for kids.
Even in my single days, there was always something about February 14th that got me all giddy. As a little girl, I loved the idea of reds, pinks, and purples being scattered on greeting cards and décor. (Okay, guilty as charged, I still love that color palette).
Now that I’m a wife and mama, I’ve taken Valentine’s Day to new extremes. Can you guess it?
Yup, I bake a whole lot.
My latest creation: Furry Monster Valentine Cupcakes. They’re almost too adorable to eat.
Almost.
How to Make Furry Monster Valentines Cupcakes
Ingredients List
- One dozen of your favorite vanilla cupcakes (bake them in red cupcake liners)
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2-3 tbsp milk
- 2-3 drops red gel food coloring
- 20 candy google eyes
- 12 small pretzel sticks
- 3-4 oz. red fondant
Yields: 12 Valentine Cupcakes
Cool to the Touch
Hold your horses… Before starting to decorate your Valentine cupcakes, ensure that your cupcakes are completely cool. It’s best to let them sit on a cooling rack before moving forward.
Make That Buttercream
To make the buttercream, use an electric mixer to beat butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk on slow speed. Gradually increase the speed to high.
Color That Buttercream
Once you see the buttercream start to take form, add red gel food coloring until you achieve a shade of pink that you like.
Continue beating on high and once the ingredients are smooth, well-tinted, and form semi-stiff peaks, you’re done.
Frosting Bags, at the Ready!
Attach Wilton tip #233 to a frosting bag and scoop buttercream inside. Frost each cupcake and give your cupcake monsters some long, disheveled buttercream fur.
Add Those Peepers
Give each of your monsters either 1, 2, or 3 eyes with your candy googly eyes.
Horns, for Good Measure
Roll 24 spheres out of your red fondant, about 1/3 of an inch in size. Snap each pretzel stick in half.
Place one fondant sphere on each of your pretzel sticks. Insert 2 pretzel sticks into each one of your furry monster Valentines cupcakes.
Gimme Your Heart
Now, it’s time to form some fondant hearts. To do this, all you have to do is roll two fondant spheres (about ¼ of an inch in diameter each). Then, give them a more oval shape and squeeze them together, leaving a space at the top.
Pinch the bottom and flatten the heart out slightly, smoothing it as you go.
Make about 24-30 of these and place randomly on each monster.
…and that’s it! How lovable are they? So perfect for this time of the year.
