Who doesn’t love a good biscotti? We gave ours a triple-choco makeover: ladies and gents, we present our Christmas Chocolate Biscotti Recipe.
Hi everyone! Lisa reporting for another culinary post! I’m adding onto our holiday menu (psst: Did you check out our gingerbread cake?) and this time, it’s ultra chocolate-y!
One of the reasons I love going to the local café is because of their delectable biscotti cookies. Most of the time, I’ll order 2, along with a latte. For every bite I take, I carefully dip the biscotti in my beverage – just to soften it up a little. It’s the 15 minutes I give myself as a treat. I’m a mom of a toddler, and 15 minutes of quiet and stillness means everything, especially if it’s with a biscotti and a cup o’ Joe.
While this café visit is definitely a session of self-care and “me time,” I couldn’t help but wonder: “Can’t I make my own, homemade biscotti?”
Well, I certainly can.
Our Chocolate Biscotti Recipe is definitely something you’ll want to add to your holiday sweets table. It’s extra sweet, extra festive, and it comes out softer than the traditional biscotti. It is definitely a treat the entire family will enjoy… you could also serve up some homemade eggnog too.
Christmas Chocolate Biscotti Recipe
For the biscotti:
- 1 cup a/p flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp instant coffee
- Pinch salt
- ¼ cup butter (approx. half a stick), softened
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup chocolate chips
To decorate:
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- Festive chocolate chips (ours are red, green and white)
Christmas Biscotti Prep Work
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Dry ingredients
In a small bowl, sift together a/p flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, instant coffee and salt. Set aside.
Wet ingredients
Using an electric mixer, beat butter and egg until smooth. Add sugar and mix until creamy.
Combine!
Add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients, one third at a time. Mix until all ingredients are well-combined.
The Addition of Chocolate Chips
Fold in chocolate chips and then form a log out of your batter (about 7-8 inches in length) on your lined baking sheet.
Start Baking!
Bake for 25 minutes and remove from oven. Cut log into strips (about 1 inch thick) with a serrated knif and then bake for another 6-8 minutes. Allow your tasty homemade Christmas biscotti to cool on a wire rack.
Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl – microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in-between.
Scoop the melted chocolate in a sandwich bag and cut out a small portion of the corner. Drizzle the chocolate on each biscotti. Sprinkle the festive chocolate chips on top. Let set for about an hour and serve!
