Show your kids what you love about them with the i Like journal

We all love our children, and we know that our children are aware of our love by the attention that we pay them, the care that we give them, and the hugs and kisses that we shower upon them. But, do they truly know what we like about them?

Husband and wife Lance and Meredith Looney have created a cute journal-like book called the i like book which presents parents with an easy to use system in which to record and share with their children all those little things that they like about them. Organized with monthly sections, which you can label yourself (allowing for beginning use any month of the year!), with lines for parents’ to finish the sentence “I like…” each day. Along with helping parents bond with children and communicate with them through writing, it also serves as a personal gratitude book for parents. Between the months’ sections are fun quotes, short stories, places to paste in photos, play tic tac toe, and record longer thoughts and notes. It’s spiral binding is convenient since it will be opened again and again, and the plastic overlay cover is helpful, since this book will be getting daily use! (Which with kids translates to “getting dirty.”)

Personally, I am finding the the i like book helpful for use with my ten year old son, who definitely knows I love him, but may feel that I spend more time focused on correcting him than affirming him. As we sit together each evening to share my entries, I appreciate the opportunity and reminder to bring attention to the little things that I truly do like about my growing son.

We’re happy to be able to offer one copy of the i like book, in the winner’s choice of blue, green, pink or purple in today’s giveaway. Please leave a comment here to enter, U.S. residents only. Feel free to share what you like about your own child(ren)! We’ll announce the winner in this column on 11/15.

As a bonus, we also have been given a discount code to share with our 5 Minutes for Mom readers. Use the code “kids2010” when you register on theilikebook.com, and you’ll save 40%!

  • The winner of Six Ways to Keep the Little in Your Little Girl is #30 April!@M3RH.

I love the way my son can see the good in everything and how much he appreciates the little things. And of course, I love that he still loves to snuggle and that he says the sweetest things out of the blue sometimes!

OK this one is gonna sound odd but, “I am okay with the fact that my mom past away when I was very young because now being a mom myself it has reminded me to be thankful for my family and never forget to hug, kiss and tell them how much I love them and I like that!”

What a fun idea! Some of the things I like are my daughter’s laugh, the funny way she tilts her head, and how she grabs ahold of each side of my face to pull my head in for an eskimo kiss.

I like it that my senior son went with me to parent-teacher conferences, so I could hear his teachers say how much they liked him as a person and a as a student and he could brag on his 4.0 term GPA (first time since high school!). I was pleasantly surprised, not just by his grades, but how the teachers praised him up and down for how wonderful he is!!!

Oh, what perfect timing to see this. I just had a convo with my 9 yo son. He wants a journal like on the diary of the wimpy kid and I was thinking I should write down more of what my wonderful child says. I would love the blue one since he is a boy. LOL
