Do you want to make a DIY Minnie Mouse Costume? We will show you how to make an absolutely gorgeous Minnie Mouse skirt and a professional quality Minnie Mouse bow. There are countless ways to make a Minnie Mouse costume, but with this skirt and bow, you’ll have the prettiest outfit at the party.

The fabric for your Minnie Mouse skirt makes a big difference in how your costume will turn out. We purchased this pretty charmeuse satin polka-dot fabric at Fabric.com to use for the skirt and bow. If they are out of stock at Fabric.com, you can also purchase this fabric on Amazon.

To sew the skirt, I made a three-quarter circle skirt and finished it with a waistband with the same charmeuse satin. Because the satin is so light, I added a layer of interfacing in the waistband to stabilize it and give the skirt a more polished look.

For our Minnie Mouse ears, we used the charmeuse satin to create a gorgeous big bow. Because the charmeuse satin is light and silky, we used fusible interfacing to stabilize the fabric and give structure to the bow.

We attached our homemade bow to a set of sequined Mickey Mouse ears that we already owned. The ears had a blue crown on them, so we removed the crown and added our bow.

Of course, if you don’t happen to have a set of Mickey Mouse ears on hand, you can easily make your own. Purchase some black sequined fabric, grab an old headband and a glue gun and you are good to go.

To create a nicely fitted costume, we bought this black body-suit and paired it with these black tights and black shoes. We originally planned to paint a pair of black heels yellow, but we ran out of time. While yellow shoes would have been a fabulous addition to the costume, black heels work well and reduces the cost and work involved in making this DIY Minnie Mouse costume.

Another little touch that adds to the costume is a pair of white gloves. We bought ours at a local party supply store, but you can get a similar pair on Amazon.

While Minnie Mouse’s outfit has evolved over the years and she does sometimes wear pink, the iconic Minnie Mouse costume includes a red polka dot skirt with a red polka dot bow.
