Last night I dreamed that we adopted a two and a half year old boy. In the dream, he was related to us and his parents died, so we brought him into our family.
Although it was so sad that he had lost his parents, having this little boy join our family was wonderful. Jackson finally had the brother he has been begging for since he was two! The boy was the sweetest thing and, in my dream, I fell in love with him as instantly as I did with my own children the moment I found out their hearts were beating inside me.
I don’t know about you, but my dreams are so real and vivid that it often takes me time in the morning to sort out reality. And in cases when the dream really affects me emotionally, it can take me days or weeks to “get over” the dream.
Sometimes, like with last night’s dream, I actually feel a sense of loss when I wake up. I adore my family and I am so content with my two children. But in my dream, I had another son – a brother for Jackson and a sweet new soul to adore.
What about you?
Do you remember your dreams when you wake up? Are your dreams ever so intense that you feel like you need time to “recover” from the experience?

I also have very vivid dreams. They are very life like, full of detail, emotion and color. When I was younger I had a hard time knowing what was a dream and what wasn’t. Now when I wake up I often don’t have time to think about them or what they mean, since I am rushing to get a baby up or a child out the door to school. I have had dreams that cause me to wake up angry or sad with tears down my face. I also have dreams that later come true. It’s amazing what the mind keeps thinking while our body sleeps.

THANK YOU all for your fabulous input! some of your dreams had me down right LOL! (pork and beans Amanda!! And Tonya – that dream is priceless, I can just picture you looking at your hubby across the breakfast table the next morning!)

I have tornado dreams or plane crash dreams when I am overwhelmed. Yes, I can even recall down to the most minute detail and I do have to install some recovery time.

I always remember my dreams. But rarely have nightmares. I did see a study on TV about how there is a new theory about the purpose of dreams. That they are meant to teach us how to survive in situations in our concious life. They deprived rats of getting into REM sleep for two weeks and then after that the rats didn’t respond to any attack on them. They lost their ability to survive. Seeing that has caused me to rethink my dreams. Try it–you will see that your dream is trying to teach you something–survival in any situation.

Dreams are messages, I believe. My dreams are so vivid I often find myself waking up crying or laughing out loud. And I have felt the sense of loss you describe.

I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams recently – and not just because I am pregnant. I had a dream the other night about someone – and all the details turned out to be true… So…I’ve been keeping a “dream journal” by my bed that I write in at least a few times a week. I think our dreams can tell us things – I often think of the way God spoke through dreams and visions in the OT and maybe if I was paying more attention, he may do the same for me…

*shiver* I know exactly what you mean! When I have big intense dreams like that it absolutely affects me! Last night was one of those nights for me, too. I dreamed one of my friends died and I wanted to pray for her but no one else wanted me to. Isn’t that awful?
I also dreamed about AI’s David Cook rescuing me and my daughter from falling into a pool of pork & beans. I kid you not.
Maybe I shouldn’t have shared that for everyone to see…

I have always had insanely weird dreams, but not that I’m pregnant they are borderline weird. I posted a blog of one I had last week on our blog http://www.thespottsblog.blogspot.com if anyone wants to take a peak. Feel free to think I’m strange!

Janice…you should read Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti. It gave me such an insight into what my dreams really are.
Many blessings-

I definitely have some strange and vivid dreams. Sometimes my poor husband doesn’t know why I’m disgruntled with him after I have a dream that he does something awful to me. 🙂 poor guy!

So last night I dreamt about the ‘man of my dreams’ – yes I’m well aware of the irony of that comment. You know the type – tall, gorgeous, great bod. For some reason though he lived in a mine shaft and there was a dance down there. How I got down that mineshaft in a pretty frock and heels to dance the night away with his mother who didn’t like me I’ll never know but boy do I remember that dream. I would’ve lived in the mine shaft with him … I think ;). It took me a good hour to look at poor dear hubby this morning. Unfortunately though I can’t post my weird dream on my blog seeing as hubby reads it daily – he’s even stopped reading the paper in favor of it and I don’t think he’d find my dream in the least bit amusing.

Yes, I sure have had dreams that left me needing a recovery time. I still remember some of the nightmares I had as a 5 year old girl. Maybe you’re hoping for another child? ;O)

Most of my dreams are so realistic that I wake up even more exhausted than when I go to bed. I never feel rested after even a full night’s sleep.

I’ve definitely had dreams like that! And sometimes I wonder if it’s more than a dream- you know the saying… a dream is a wish your heart makes?

That is quite an intense dream!
I always remember at least one dream every morning, and like you, they can affect me very much during the day. It does take a while to shake them sometimes!!

I hear that we all dream every night, but I rarely remember even having a dream, much less what it was about…

I too have had very vivid dreams. Sad to say the dreams are never wonderful like the one you had, but terrifing most times. I have had one dream several times now. Maybe because the subject it surrounds is something that I do think about – parents growing old and passing away.
Does anyone else have that type of dream?
I can certainly do without that!

A dream like that would definitely have impacted me.
I’ve had dreams where my DH has done something totally stupid — And I wake up angry at him. And I stay angry at him for a few days. For something he didn’t do, but I dreamt. Poor guy, huh?
So, yeah. My dreams can do that to me too.

wow! what an amazing dream. yes, i have very vivid dreams too. sometimes they are long dreams with plots, almost like a movie. in college, i used to write short stories from them. they can be pretty scary, sometimes sad too (sometimes i wake up crying) and it sometimes takes me a while to get over them too. i think i have an extremely active imagination.

What about you?
I dreamed of my son before I adopted him.
The interesting surprise was that I thought he would be a “she” and had prepared only for a little girl.
When I met him for the first time he looked exactly as he’d appeared to me in a dream – right down to the royal-blue footie jammies he was wearing.
I remember most of my dreams and many of them are precognitive, although some I can easily recognize as my mind’s way of working out things in my life.

I have had that exact dream and when you wake up, you feel as though you’ve lost something!!! Even though you never had it! So strange!
Monica- Paper Bridges says
I have three reoccurring dreams, all unpleasant and all in varying degrees of intensity each time I dream one of them. I sure do wish I could put those dreams to rest once and for all.
The “recovery” isn’t so bad, guess I’m used to it.
Kerry says
Absolutely! I’ve woken up desperately sad because of a dream and ridiculously angry at my hubby because of a dream. Poor hubby – he didn’t even do anything, but he did in my dream. It took me most of the day to not be angry. 🙂

There are times when I wake up and I am sure it was real. I remember the very intense dreams. And yes there are times when it takes me days or weeks to recover from the dream.
I lost my Dad a few years ago and there are times when he comes to me in my dreams and I am sure that it was not a dream but my Dad coming to visit.
