I am in San Diego!

I am in San Diego!

This morning, I did something I thought I wouldn’t do for at least a decade.

While my son peacefully slept, I said good bye to him and left for the airport. My heart broke a little and I pleaded to God to keep our plane from dropping out of the sky, as Olivia and I flew 1500 miles away. For four days and three nights, I won’t see my precious son. I won’t hear his crazy stories and see his mischievous grin.

I was dreading the day when I had to fly away from my kids. I never wanted to get on an airplane without them. (I wouldn’t even enter contests for free trips for two because I didn’t want to win and leave Jackson at home!)

So, why now? Why am I in San Diego, while one of my kids is still at home? It had to be good – the motivation to get me to board that plane.

And it was! Not one – but TWO of my two favorite pastimes doubled up on me and insisted that I make this dream trip…

Blogging AND photography.

I really had no choice. I mean seriously – check this out.

Sony flew me and 14 other Mommy Bloggers to San Diego for an event featuring the Sony Digital Imaging products and services. In addition to training on the featured products, photography expert Me Ra Koh will give us tips on shooting techniques, composing great photos and video, etc.

Not only do I get to meet and hang out with fellow women bloggers, but I will be learning how to be a better photographer. It doesn’t get much cooler. Oh – did I mention we are at hotel on the beach?

Yes – Susan is more than jealous! But since I am the one obsessed with photography, it only made sense that I was the one to come. (Olivia is with me because she is exclusively breast feeding, so I couldn’t leave her at home. But apparently I am not the only mom with a nursling here. I hear another Mommy Blogger brought her infant too. I can’t wait to meet everyone tomorrow.)

I better get to bed now. Olivia is already asleep and I have a very long and exciting day ahead. I will tell you all about it just as soon as I can.

    Janice,
You were loads of fun in San Diego and it was great to have a photography buff in the group. You asked fantastic questions, and I’m sure we all learned much more thanks to your personal obsession with photography.

After haveing been to Dana point not to far from where you are right now- I concur California is the BEST! Maybe that is because in Michigna it is still cold and dreary- anyhow, after viewing the web site for Me Ra Koh I am hoping you will share some of your new found skills with us ameature/wannabe photographers! Wow congrats, that sounds like an awesome opportunity! And how neat that you are in the same city that I live in! I used to work at a beautiful hotel on the beach, I wonder if it’s the same one you’re staying in…anyway, have a wonderful time here. I know how hard it must be to leave your child behind, but it sounds like you will have a fabulous time.

You know that I feel differently about this–I am willing to leave my kids. Yes, it’s hard, but it’s good for the kids to be with Daddy (or the other loved ones), and I believe it’s good for Mommy too.

It will also be nice for you to focus on Olivia, and for Jackson to have some time without her as well.

I do hope you have a great time.

I leave tomorrow for my jaunt.

Welcome to sunny California! I’ve lived in and out of San Diego 3 times in the 7 years I’ve been married to my Navy husband, so even though I didn’t grow up here I consider it “home”. The weather is great this week-what a perfect time to be here. How awesome that you get to enjoy your 2 favorite pastimes and that you got to bring Olivia. Have a wonderful time!
