So many late nights…

The Christmas season seems to be keeping everyone in our family up too late at night! Not only are Joan, Susan and I up till all hours working – but Jackson is on a late night schedule too.

Last weekend, Phil, Jackson and I went to our friends’ house for dinner. (I felt so guilty going out when Susan and Joan were working, but I had to go.) The other kids went to bed, but Jackson stayed up, quietly playing with toys. He finally fell asleep at 11pm when we got in the car. The next morning, he slept till 10:30am! He sometimes sleeps in till 9am or so – but 10:30 was a first!

Since then, it has been tricky getting him back to a normal schedule. He is a night owl like I am and he can easily and happily stay up late.

My in-laws have a big Christmas dinner every year on Christmas Eve and last year Jackson was up till 1am. He didn’t miss a beat – and was not even cranky. The great part of letting him stay up with us is that then he doesn’t wake up at 6am wanting to open presents. And with my fabulous hubby tending to the turkey, I get a nice slow start to Christmas day.

What about your kids? Are they yawning and falling asleep by 7:30pm or will they keep ticking into the wee hours?

It depends on how much excitement is going on. If there is something exciting happening my son will stay up. Otherwise he’s asleep on the couch.

My almost 3 year old is up at 6 AM on the dot, no matter when she goes to bed. So we put her to bed by 8 or she is a grouch the next day.

I did take her to a Christmas party a couple weekends ago, and she outlasted some of the adults! At 1230PM she was still going strong!

Oh Gosh…my kids are TOTAL night owls. They are soooo easy to keep up all night! It’s scary, I’m glad to be homeschooling for this very reason…we all sleep til like 9am…LOL! Rather than having to get up at 7 to get ready for school…

y two and a half year old hates sleep and fights it. A few moths ago he boycotted sleep completely. He would scream for hours at night…and inevitably end up in our bed much to our dismay….he was afraid of the dark. It took us two months to figure that out! Our daughter actually askes to go to bed at 16 months old. She gets VERY VERY grumpy to the point we can’t stand it.

My 18 month-old would stay up as late as I’d let him.

That’s how I looked last night after a full day of running errands & cleaning house, then babysitting an 18 month old for 5 hours! LOL

He is precious! My little 2 year old has never been fond of sleep. Lately I’ve been getting her to bed a little after 8… and listening to her babble to her stuffed animals until almost 10!!! The small blessing in that is she’s been sleeping until 8:30 instead of the 7AM waking that was normal. (Which is good because I have also been up all hours working on stuff.)

What a sweet photo! My kids are night-owls, as I am. It is difficult to stay on a schedule during Christmastime. Mine are older, though–17, 13, and 9. My 9 year old will go to bed and an hour or more later come out saying she can’t sleep!!! I know the next day will be a bear for getting out of bed and getting *anything* accomplished!

YES! My daughter is usually pretty flexible. But these past few weeks have been tough. Last night as we were getting ready for church, she kept spilling things and knocking things over and crying at the drop of a hat. We decided to forego church and let her get to bed early, esp. since her school Christmas program is tonight. I think it was the best decision! 🙂

My daughter usually gets sleepy and goes to bed between 7 and 8 p.m. But then again, she’s only fifteen months so those routines are pretty much decided for her. 🙂

Princess tends to go to sleep really really early. But if she wakes up after having fallen asleep she is up all hours of the night.

Mine all need to be in bed by 8pm at the absolute latest or they’re horribly grumpy the next day – but then again, they have to be up at 6:30am every day… And that’s not even enough sleep for Hannah because she’s grumpy by the end of the week all the time anyway. But when we get home at 5:30pm, by the time we get dinner and clean-up done, they hardly have any time to play or spend time with us before it’s bedtime anyway.

You are one lucky momma. My boys love to stay up late but they are up at 7:30am every time! Just like clock work. I’m not even sure what sleeping in feels like anymore!

Both of my kids are night owls. They get it from their dad. When Jack, who turns 11 today, was 1 1/2, we had to stop him from taking naps. If he went down for a nap, he would sleep for 3 hours then be up till midnight! With two older kids to get up for the bus early in the morning, that just wasn’t working. My daughter needs more sleep. Jack can stay up until 12 and get up at 6. Katrina stays up until 12 and will sleep until 11.

The Boy thinks he’s old enough (10) to stay up late, but we all pay the price the following few days. The later he stays up, the earlier he wakes up, which makes it even more challenging, especially since we’ve noticed he needs at least a solid 9.5 hours of sleep!

Ack mine keep going and going. The problem is though they tend to still get up early. Then I have grumpy children. 🙂 On Christmas Eve though we dont stay out to late. I work for our church nursery and work Christmas eve. I dont mind though I have the best job ever! I only work once a week .:) Anyway the kids will be up for services and then off to bed.

    Have a happy holiday

Things are so nuts lately, our daughter just fell asleep about an hour ago…just shy of midnight…she’s 2 1/2. Usually she’s in bed by 8-8:30pm. I love the holidays, but I’ll be glad for life to get back to normal soon. LOL!
