Okay — the very fact that I just said, “A Great App for Babies and Toddlers,” means this world has really become pretty darn bizarre. BUT as a mother who owns an iPhone knows, apps are today’s newest candy.
Kids love ’em! Perhaps even as much as we adults do.
And as a mother who has entertained her children with an iPhone while waiting in a long line or while stuck in a doctor’s office, I appreciate a great kid-focused app!
When I heard about a Baby Einstein app by Disney, I was excited. I love Baby Einstein! I am not sure I could have survived my son’s teething eight years ago without it.
So I paid my $3.99 and downloaded it. (I actually had a free code from a PR rep but I never got around to using it. I just downloaded it myself.)
The My Baby Einstein app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
It is all the magic of Baby Einstein right in the palm of your hand. Which means a fussy toddler can be tamed wherever you are!
Here is the My Baby Einstein app trailer:
The app includes Baby Einstein Video, Discovery Cards, Memory Book, and Music.
At $3.99, the only disappointing aspect to this app is that it only includes a few of each of the features. The rest you have to purchase individually.
Without additional purchases, the app could get boring for children. Besides, when their little eyes catch the sight of another fun looking button, the word “Buy” is not going to stop them from wanting it.
Olivia had a meltdown the other night when she saw the “Baby Santa” video and had to wait while it downloaded and she cried, “Snowy — I want Snowy!!!” But when I finally got the video downloaded, it was worth the wait. Besides, children need to learn a little patience too!
The Video section is where Olivia spends most of her time. The videos are broken down into three parts and it just like watching the DVDs, but right in her tiny hand! Only two videos come with the basic app though, and you have to purchase the others. At only $0.99, the additional videos are inexpensive, so I don’t mind purchasing extras, but one or two more would have been nice.
The Discovery Cards are flash cards for your baby and there is also the option of creating your own personalized cards — which is a great feature. Additional card sets can be purchased for $1.99.
The Music section is my least favorite and we haven’t spent much time there. Only a sampling is included with the app and then you must purchase the CD.
Bottom Line: At $3.99 plus the cost of the extra features, (and you will want to purchase at least some of them to really enjoy this app at its best,) this is an expensive app! But it is fabulous to have the magic of Baby Einstein whenever I need it.
If you don’t mind spending the extra money and you have a child three or under, then I recommend My Baby Einstein. I would definitely buy it again myself. The complete delight this app brings Olivia is worth the extra cost.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later.

Please Note: I was not paid for my review of My Baby Einstein and I purchased the app and additional features myself. As usual, my opinions are my own.

For entertainment / learning I think there are better alternatives. But for use as a ‘just stay still and quiet for a little longer” using your always on hand iPhone, I think these kind of Apps are priceless.

this app would be well worth the price when the baby is crying in the car!

It looks great. I have lots of friend who use similar apps and I’m sure I will too when I finally get around to getting an iphone!

My son is a little older, but I do buy game apps for my ipod touch for him. They are awesome! And if I had a little one, I think I would have started using them at a younger age.
