Biased, delusional… but still so sweet…

“Jackson – don’t waste the video tape right now. There isn’t anything to record,” I tell my five year old son, trying to discourage him as he picks up our video camera.

“There is something to tape – I am going to tape you.”

Sitting at my computer with no makeup on, I am not too excited about that idea. “No, Jackson – you can’t tape me. I look terrible!”

Jackson peers out from behind the camera, “You don’t look terrible – you look beautiful!”

He will grow up too soon. One day, he will judge me with more accurate standards. But for now I am his precious mommy and I refuse to forget how it feels to be so loved.

How cute. I was however expecting a different reaction from him. My husband and his brother once responded to their mother who was refusing to have her picture taken because of her wind blown hair “It doesn’t look any different that it normally does” In unison…I hope tornado gets some tact..like Jackson!

Kids are (brutally) honest and see things for how they truly are. What a gift, that Jackson’s honesty can serve as a reminder that you are beautiful, even without our grown-up safety nets of make-up and hair gel.

If only we could see through their eyes again….

    We can certainly try!

This is truly one of a mom’s greatest joys: to be appreciated and loved unconditionally. My only hope is our children will continue to love us so, through the years to come.

    🙂

Awww Janice! At these moments of doubt, just remember the first time you looked into each others eyes and remember it was love at first sight because that’s whats in your little mans heart.

    Melody and Mama K,
Absolutely right. He’s got the right standards.

Maybe his current standards ARE the acurate ones. Yours are the ones that are tainted. 🙂 (mine too LOL)

    Such a sweet moment.

That’s so nice! It’s so hard to understand that they love you for you and because you are you. They see us at our worst and best, and they accept us no matter what. Well… until they reach their teens.

Janice, his current standards are accurate and he will keep those standards…I promise. Ok, there will be moments in the teen years, but those won’t be his true feelings or view of you…it’ll be hormones and peer pressure. 😉
