Tackling Government Forms

Janice is away and I’m here trying to tackle…

As many of you know, Janice has gone away with her husband and son for a week to volunteer at a teens’ Bible Camp. It isn’t exactly a relaxing vacation for her, but I’m still jealous because it is the camp that we have been going to all our lives and I love it there.

Janice still goes because her husband is the program director for the week and she and Jackson basically get to tag along. But since my husband uses all his vacation time from work for us to go to Italy, he can’t take anymore time away from work. (Also, since he has no emotional attachment to the Island like the rest of us, it would be much harder to convince him to use a week of his vacation washing dishes or cleaning toilets.)

Alas, I no longer get to enjoy the beautiful island where we ‘camped’ all our lives. (It’s a private island, so we can’t just go there without being part of the camp.) But, I try to remind myself that I also don’t have to do all the packing and unpacking that goes with such a trip.

And to add to my self-pity party I am left here with all of Janice’s work and mine and no babysitting! Boo hoo hoo…

Ah yes, I thought you may remind me of that… yes, I did just abandon Janice for a month as I trotted off to Italy… it’s true. But the tough part of that is that I’m still not caught up with all the work that got put on hold while I was away. I still have hundreds of emails requesting site listings to attend to and more work needed on our toy stores than I could ever list.

But… all that aside… I now have a more urgent and complicated tackle…

I have to figure out all the forms and paperwork to arrange to bring an Au Pair here from Switzerland.

You see… for the last couple months Janice has been searching for an Au Pair to come and live with her and help her once our new babies arrive. She ended up finding two great girls – one from Alberta, Canada and the other from Switzerland.

So Janice is going to have the Canadian girl live at her house and work for her and I have just decided that I’m going to hire the Swiss girl to come and live here and work for me.

Since our babies are due in October, which is just starting the crazy Christmas shopping season at our toy stores, I’m going to be in serious need of help. So I decided we’ll convert our downstairs playroom into a room for the au pair.

But now… I have to hurry up and figure out all this paperwork and we have to tackle converting our basement into a bedroom.

Our ‘basement’ is really the ground floor and opens to a patio. It’s got the groundwork laid for a bathroom as well so we have to figure out if we’re going to hire someone to build the bathroom so she’ll have her own private bathroom.

But even before I can worry about the room, I have to figure out all these crazy forms and formalities.

Anyway… enough about my work… what are you up to? Do you have a housework related tackle with fun before and after photos or are you like me trying to get some other random task done?

so, it’s possible to get a nanny outside the country? My sister finished an au pair program and I was hoping she can apply for a nanny job here, it seems impossible! What agency did u look up to? I was wondering if I could recommend it to my sister. If only we can get her as our nanny but I’m not sure if they allow that since she’s my sister…
