Win an Oreck XL Ultra
I hurt my back.
And not just a little twinge of pain. This is a full on, my-back-seized-and-now-I-can’t-pick-up-my-kids hurt. With a four month old and a two year old who insists on playing “two babies,” I am in a bit of trouble.
So, you can imagine, I am more than a bit excited that an Oreck XL Ultra just arrived at my door. This mighty little vacuum weighs only 9 pounds! To hold a vacuum that weighs so little is the strangest feeling - like when you have a toddler and you pick up a newborn. It is fantastic! (Now if only my kids still weighed 9 pounds!)
Considering my back is so damaged that I wouldn’t be able to use my old vacuum for months, a vacuum that is super light would be good enough for me.
But there are even more reasons I am giddy with vacuuming delight…
This tiny thing is a powerhouse, sucking up filth at the velocity of a cat 2 hurricane AND it has a hypo-allergenic filtration system that eliminates 99.9% of all allergen AND it even lays flat to fit under the bed or furniture. (Considering we are jammed with a home office and our family in a tiny townhouse, the fact that I can hide it so easily is super cool.)
Okay - I want to do a little vacuum dance right now. But, as I said, my back really hurts. So I am doing a happy dance on the inside.
(As moms, there is far too much vacuuming in our lives. Really! It is a never ending chore. So I am just counting my lucky stars that I get to use this fabulous vacuum while vacuuming again and again.)

They have demonstrations, like this smoke chamber demo, that will have you dragging your husband to the computer and saying, “But Honey - look - all the smoke disappears! We really neeeed this!
Yes, it is infomercial style. But if you can move past that, it does make a darn good case for the vacuum.

[...] 5 Minutes for Mom is giving away an Oreck XL Ultra!! This is definitely something that I can get excited about because my family runs through vacuum cleaners like they are going out of style. The vacuums that we’ve kept the longest were the Phantom Fury (of which I can’t seem to find a picture of online!) and the first vacuum cleaner that was given to us when I first got married. Other than that vacuum cleaners seem to only last about a year around this house. Last year I even had a Kirby salesman come to the door, and let me tell you!!! If I had the money to buy a Kirby I would. I know that if I bought one of those I’d never have to buy another vacuum cleaner for the rest of my natural born days! At the moment we do not have a vacuum cleaner (and haven’t had one for 2 months) and because of many, many, many financial other financial obligations we probably won’t be able to get one for 2 or 3 more months The Oreck, though, makes me wonder if Kirby has found it’s match. What a wonderful giveaway. I really want to win this. I too hurt my back. For the past number of years my back tends to ‘go out’ on occasion, but last summer, during our family vacation was the worse. I guess with packing for the family, I over did it and sure enough my back went out. It was so bad, that while on vacation, my husband had to bring me to the er to get shots and medicine. After that trip, I was knocked out the whole week. With 2 young children….this was not the ideal vacation.

I understand the back deal. I have a 2 herniated discs in my back so vacuuming is always a chore I really dispise especially with my vacuum which was built in 1974 (5 years before I was even born)… not only do I get a nice work out lugging it up & down the stairs, but I have learned to be a vacuum repair person, because I have to fix it every time I use it. Oh and I have to vacuum every room twice because of the lack of suction.

Vacuuming is one of the worst things that can hurt anyone’s lower back (many people have osteoarthritis in their lower backs as early as as age 30 and do not know it. Having a light weight and powerful vacuum like the Oreck XL Ultra, especially if you have children and/or pets, as I do, is imperative! Suffering from bulging disks in your lower back from vacuuming can seriously harm your back, your career and quality time with your family. It takes a long time to recover from herniated disks. Don’t risk it!

Oh my gosh, SIGN ME UP!
My mother-in-law came to visit for three HOURS today, passing through my State while on a trip. For the past three DAYS, I have been on my hands and knees picking up little bits and crumbs from the carpet and around the furniture legs. No vacuum = lots of pain.

Oh boy could I use a new vacuum cleaner!! I have 3 cats, one of which is a persian, and we heat the house mainly with a wood stove. So, I constantly have tons of cat hair and wood dust/splinters everywhere, and it kills my vacuums quick! The one I am using right now is on it’s last duct taped legs…

i am in despret need of a good vacum i am a single mother who is struggeling to get by.every year i purchas a cheap vacum just to get me by and i have yet to find one that will work properly i am always tearing it apart for clogs.even my hoover that was given to me out to the trash it went.on top of that the cat hair and dog hairballs are growing.i am now down to borrowing a vacum. i seen this on tv and it looks like the vacum i need and so much want .thanks

I’ve been without a vacuum since mine was STOLEN from my storage compartment in the basement of my apartment building. (And I thought I was messy. Oh I REALLY need this! I spent WEEKS researching vacuums last year (since we don’t have much cash and I wanted to spend it exactly right!) and bought a …….(I won’t say)….but it sucked. And not in a good way. It was a total waste of money. I now prefer to crouch down on my hands and knees and waddle around my house with a dust brush and pan. Much for effective than the machine I own, but killer on my body! We can’t afford to blow another few hundred on a new vacuum. Please, please, please. I hope, I hope, I hope.
