A great time saving tip is to chop up your veggies, process breadcrumbs(or cheat and use store brand), etc..before, even up to a day. If you’re sautéing for stuffing or as a side this will allow you to socialize with friends/family longer and that’s what the holidays are about! Happy Holidays and good luck everybody! 🙂

My advice is to get an Oven Ready Turkey if it has to be perfect, you are pressed for time, or new or unsure about turkey cooking – it will be delicious, juicy, easy, fast and worry free. You do not have to touch it raw, no need to unthaw – it goes from freezer to oven in it’s cooking bag, no basting and many of them come with gravy. They are on the expensive side, so look for sales and coupons.

I don’t use Bisquick but for a few recipes, so instead of buying the premade stuff in a box, I make my own. Super simple using only flour, baking powder, salt and shortening! That way I only make up what I need, no extra ingredients I don’t want in it, and no waste!

I can’t duplicate it and it’s killing me despite the many attempts. It had cornbread, biscuits, celery, onions, poultry seasoning, eggs, and all that. I just can’t get it all right. my question is.. do you have to rinse off the turkey before cooking? this is something that my mom always did but I have folks tell me “no, any germs are killed by the heat of cooking it”

    whats the best answer?

Always prep everything you can the day before. It also helps if you write down a list of things you need to do, what order they need to be done in, and approximately how long each takes.

Here’s my holiday for you. If you’re decorating cupcakes / cakes. Instead of buying colored sugar in the store there’s actually a way to make it at home with regular granulated sugar and food coloring you just mix a few drops of food coloring in the amount of sugar that you need and just mix it with a spoon and here you have it. It’/ way to save alot of money for colored sugar 🙂

Here’s a holiday tip for anyone who loves pumpkin roll! After you’re done baking and rolling it up, cut out some paper doll snowmen and use them as a stencil. Just lay them on the pumpkin roll and sift your powdered sugar over them. This also keeps the pumpkin roll from sticking to the parchment paper. Of course you can do angels or stars or any other shape you like. It adds a special touch and people always think mine were made by a pro. 😉 Happy holidays!

To lessen the baking frenzy, bake and freeze as many of the goodies as possible, or seal in air-tight containers, ahead of time. It eases the pressure just before the occasion (whatever it is) and therefore makes it more enjoyable.

Do as much as possible in advance and freeze it. I make my desserts the week before the holiday and freeze them. Most will freeze and thaw quite well but some do not so be aware. Rule of thumb is the higher the fat content (which of course is the most unhealthy, lol), the better it will freeze :). Some side dishes can be made and frozen as well.

My tip is to prep the day before – cut up veggies and cook what you can a day ahead of time, like mashed potatoes. If you’re traveling with cooked food, it’s so much easier to bring it in the aluminum pans…less dishes, less mess, and more time to hang out and relax with family!

My cooking tip is to use oversize forks to take the turkey out of the roaster. Mom used to drop the turkey every year and it started to carve itself, plus the dog and cat were mighty interested in the juices that escaped. I remember after we were done with the turkey, he would get in the pan, then lift each paw out and lick it and then repeat, so it took awhile to get through before we washed the roasting pan.

I would ask – how do you get the turkey to brown on the bottom? Mine is always golden on the top, and cooked but the skin is soggy on the bottom. It’s too messy to try to turn it over and I’d be afraid then the top might get soggy.

A favorite in my family is gluten-free oreo truffles. I use Kinnitoos or Glutino gluten free oreo cookies, but any gluten-free oreo is good. I blend 36 of those to a crumbly powder, then mix it with 1 lb cream cheese until all the white disappears. Then, I add 1 tsp vanilla extract and mix in. Roll them into small balls and dip them in chocolate. I use Nestle milk chocolate chips. Place them on parchment paper on a cookie sheet and then let them sit in the fridge for about an hour. I add a personal touch of roasted almonds to the tops of the truffles before putting them in the fridge.
A good rule of thumb is to look up a recipe that had good ratings that might not be gluten-free, and then substitute wherever needed in order to make it gluten-free.
