Most children have had their hair cut before they are in kindergarten. But, not my Olivia. Olivia’s hair has taken its sweet time to grow and I just couldn’t part with one millimeter of it.
Finally, at five and a half years old, I gave in and let scissors snip away some of my daughter’s baby soft hair. Olivia was thrilled — albeit a little scared that the hair dresser might slip and cut her.
Of course, for the finishing touch, Olivia asked the hair dresser to paint on a little temporary pink. A girl can always use more pink.
2025 Life Update
It’s now 2025 and Olivia is currently in training to become a hairdresser. Looking back at this post of her first haircut brings back so many memories… and I can’t believe she’ll soon be cutting other people’s hair… and perhaps even giving children their own first haircuts.
Here’s a look at a few other key moments in Olivia’s childhood that I shared with our readers over the years here at 5 Minutes for Mom.
- Olivia getting her ears pierced.
- The sport that became such a huge part of her life… cheerleading
- Olivia dressed in the Minnie Mouse costume I sewed for her.
- Olivia and I dressed in our Poison Ivy and Daisy Taylor Swift Eras Tour Outfits.
Raising Olivia has been so much fun and I loved sharing so many moments with our friends, readers, and other mom bloggers during the incredible time of the “mommy blogging” era.

Through your blog I can relate my childhood moments with your daughter. I remember my days when my mother took me for a hair cut and I started crying because I want to grow my hairs but I think somewhere my mother was right.
I love her cut, she is so adorable.
Haha, love the extra pink!! She is so cute. And the haircut is fab 🙂
She looks beautiful after her first haircut!

Ah yes. Pink is a good thing and Olivia is adorable! Love her new ‘do’! My grand daughter’s hair is still baby fine at age 7 although she’s had a few haircuts because of styles she and her brother have given her themselves! Ooooooo
Thanks for the linky.
Love the hair streaks!
So cute. Love the pink highlights! Happy WW.
What a cutie pie! Thank you for hosting, I’m happy to join in the fun xo
What a sweetie! She’s too cute. I haven’t taken our 2 1/2 year old for a hair cut yet, and don’t know when I will. I can’t bear to part with her curls.
Very pretty and of course, pink!
Happy WW!

Styling hair is fun! She looks great. Love the pink highlights.
Aw, she is adorable! My daughter is about the same age as yours (turning 6 this summer) and she got a first hair cut a few months ago. I think I was more nervous than she was!
LOVE her new ‘do!
