How to Be God’s Little Princess, Review and Giveaway

I was never much of a princess as a little girl. I wasn’t quite a tomboy, but I didn’t really care for frilly or pink. My daughter, on the other hand, has loved all things girly since birth. While she can get dirty and play hard, she prefers to do it while wearing a pretty dress and jewelry. I enjoy watching this aspect of her personality with some amazement (because I know it didn’t come from me), and I am sure she sometimes wonders how she ended up with such a plain mom. And while I don’t mind at all that she enjoys fancy things, I want her to understand that true beauty comes from the inside.

In her new book, Sheila Walsh writes to young girls about being God’s princess. How to Be God’s Little Princess: Royal Tips on Manners and Etiquette for Girls encourages young girls to explore topics such as wardrobe, poise, friendships, manners at mealtimes and parties, phone and internet etiquette, and many more. The book includes crafts, quizzes, role playing activities, and other fun interactive lessons, as well as many Bible verses. My six-year-old girl couldn’t wait to read this book, and I am looking forward to discussing some of the topics with her.

What I like most about this book is that it goes much deeper than polite behavior. While I do want my daughter to have proper behavior, my greatest desire is that her actions will reflect what is in her heart. How to Be God’s Little Princess helps young girls to understand that good manners are important because God wants us to treat others with kindness, love, and respect and to live in a way that shows God’s love to others. I appreciate that this book is not just a list of good social behaviors, but more of a way to live for God in everyday situations.

In our world today, it often seems that manners are disappearing. While I am not so concerned with my daughter learning about which knife to use first at dinner, I do want her to understand the importance of serving others with a willing spirit and living a life that is pleasing to God. How to Be God’s Little Princess is a great resource, and I recommend it to you.

We have one copy of this book to giveaway, along with a pink drawstring bag filled with a crown craft activity and some princess mugs. If you would like to win the book and gift bag, please leave a comment on this post (U.S. shipping addresses only) We’ll announce the winner in our books column here on May 9.

  48. My daughter and I love Sheila Walsh’s Gigi book and would love this new one to teach her how God’s princesses should act.

  49. I did not start my walk until my daughter was 4 years old. She is very knowledgeable about the word and how much she is the darling of her heavenly father, but her earthly father is not a follower of Christ. So I see the struggle she has when his secular thinking demostrates to her. I pray for a wonderful Christian husband for her but I’m concern that my husband’s skepticism enters her realm of compassion, understanding and non-judgemental thoughts and actions. So to have a book that would tell her that she’s a princesses and she’s his darling that captivates our heavenly Lord. But if she isn’t blessed with this book I pray whom ever wins is blessed!!! Shelia love you at the WOF…rochester, ny…was there the year the policeman proposed!!! So memorable!!! kisses & hugs…til we meet someday official if not here then in eternity don’t forget to hug me!!! ;o)

God’s love is so amazing… To be thought of by Him as HIS PRINCESS is so endearing! Love it! My grandmother always said “Beauty is as beauty does” I’m passing that on to my little lady in hopes that she too, “Get’s it!” Thanks!

  55. Debra Appel says:

As a big fan of Sheila’s faith and humor, I would LOVE to share this with my daughter! I truly believe that manners and etiquette go hand in hand with grace and inner beauty. Teaching these principles through the Glory of God is just the icing on the cake, or should I say…the sugar cube in the tea!!! Love you Sheila!!!

  56. I was blessed with a daughter this last year and I have to tell you it ismuch different to raise her than my son (who is 11). I would love this gift as my husband has banned the “princess” word from our house in fear of raising a daughter that has an entitlement issue…I would love to show him she can be God’s princess and not becoem a Diva! 🙂 What a great gift to give your daughters…thank you for the opportunity to win such a wonderful gift!

  57. My oldest daughter is the perfect balance of princess and pirate! LOL Seriously…. she loves both. And I’m a big Sheila Walsh fan. Would be a great gift for my 3 princesses (2 yr old twin girls and an almost 4 yr old girl).

  58. Kathy Staggs says:

I never have been a girlie girl when i was younger. My daughter who is 12 years old is diffently not a girlie girl, she is 100% tomboy…. When she was little no matter how much frills I put on her she found a way to tear a hole in it. But in the last few weeks she is making some changes in her appearance. She is becoming the young lady that God wants her to be and I am forever grateful for God working in her life.

  59. stephanie clayton says:

I definately have a little princess, she is a ballerina, but yet she burps loudly at the dinner table, LOLOLOL, okay I know I shouldn’t laugh, but to hear that noise come out of such a beautiful little princess, ummmm, yeah, it makes me laugh…anyways…I think this book will be a much welcomed intervention for both of us!

I have 3 grown, married daughters and would have loved something like this when they were growing up…. but God has blessed me with precious TWIN granddaughters who will be turning 5 next Sunday, and I would LOVE to have this for them! We are in NC and after last week’s tornados, the twins told their Mom that they wanted to color pictures to sell so they could give the money to the poor kids who lost their homes and everything they owned….. precious young hearts willing to help others in their own sweet way! Can you tell I’m a proud Nana?!!!

    1. Mary Lynne says:

Forgot to mention they are totally into anything Princess AND Tea Parties with Nana!

  63. I love teaching “Tea Party” etiquette to the little girls (and boys) in my life, especially now, when it seems that even the most basic of manners have been thrown out the window. I love the idea of this kit, as it makes learning respect, manners and Godliness a fun experience!
