I think I’ve been spoiled.
Julia almost never spit-up and Sophia also keeps almost all her milk where it’s supposed to be. Maybe once every of couple days she might spit-up a tiny bit, but it wouldn’t be enough to even fill a teaspoon.
And in our typical twin fashion, Janice also has birthed non spitting-up children.
It gets me wondering… how common is it for babies to spit up? Does (or did) your baby spit-up? What about his/her siblings?
Part of the reason I’m pondering this question tonight, is that we’re going to give three of you a little something to help with your baby spit-up situations.
Sheila McGoldrick is another clever mom who has turned a parenting problem into a product.
Sheila’s babies did spit up. Her first baby Tyler spat up so regularly that the skin on Sheila’s hands began to blister and break open from all the hand washing and the acidic spit up. (She later found out she was allergic to preservatives in soaps and wipes and that the acidic nature of the spit up was aggravating the wounds.)
When Sheila’s second baby Brody appeared to have the same spit-up habits as Tyler, Sheila envisioned her new unique design for a burp cloth — the Handy Burpee™.
After donating over 40 Handy Burpees to other mothers, hospitals and various organizations, it became clear that moms loved the Handy Burpee™. In October of 2006, they launched their website, LovePrints.net. And they currently have a patent pending on Handy Burpee™.
Handy Burpee™ protects your hand and baby from wearing spit-up after nursing session or bottle:
* Slide your hand into the protective pocket leaving your thumb out.
* Cradle baby’s face with covered hand.
* Lean baby forward, gently patting and rubbing to help baby burp.
* Now, when baby spits up, it will run onto the Handy Burpee™ keeping your hand and baby free from spit-up.You can continue to bottle/breastfeed your baby while this unique burp cloth is still on your hand. It won’t get in the way and is always ready for use.
You can even watch a video on their site to see the Handy Burpee™ in action.

With a new one on the way this is a very clever idea to me. Spit up drives me crazy even when it’s my own baby. I always feel terrible when it happens while someone else is holding my baby and, well, spit happens.
Great idea.
I have a very spitty-uppy baby! enter me!

Count me in those are nifty. Thank you.
How neat!!
This burpee looks great! My kids have all been big time spitters! I hope to win~
GREAT idea! I have an 8 week old reflux sufferer and he spits up alot. Out of my 5 kids the last 3 have all had reflux. His reflux isn’t nearly as bad as his younger sisters, but we still have to have a burp cloth at all times, and my milk let down is so strong he always wears more on his face than he gets in his mouth. I would LOVE one of these Handy Burpees!! 🙂 Please enter me. THANKS!
what a wonderful idea. I just had my 3rd child and I’d LOVE some of these. All 3 kids are super spitty. Nice to have while BFing. 🙂
This looks like such a great product. I can’t wait to try it out with my next child. Thanks for the post.

I would love to have had this with my first two children.
Sounds interesting! Not sure if our newest is going to be a spitter or not, but sounds like it would be handy to have around!
Hope I win 🙂
I love how the Handy Burpee allows you to continue breastfeeding even after baby spits up. My little one has reflux, and it can be quite messy. These are so cool!
What an interesting concept. :0)
If my new one is anything like my son…I’ll be needing one of these.
rarely breastfed babies don’t as much. what they were meant to drink.
These are so cute and functional too.
Oh man, my son has been spitting up/puking since he was born. The pediatrician said that as long as he gains weight it is okay and so we haven’t worried, but it’s always all over me. This is wonderful! Count me in this draw, please!
My son would spit up so much, we thought something was wrong with him. I’m wondering what #2 will be like.

Maxim was a terrible spitter. We were actually worried he had reflux because it wasn’t just a little amount of spit, it was an incredible amount (in the ounzes). At seven months he seems to be doing better, but there is still at least one good spit a day.
Good idea!
Enter me please. 🙂
Much prettier than using diapers!
What a great idea. Please enter me in the draw : ) Thanks
Neither of my children were prone to spitting up. When they did spit up, it always took me by surprise.
No need to add me to the give away — just wanted to comment to answer your question. 😀
Please enter me in this contest.
The kids I babysit spit up quite a bit. Especially the 6 month old and it’s not a little amount. This would be so great to help with her!
Connor at 7 months only recently started spitting up. Its still not every time but if he has been a particular pig of himself he tends to do it more often. He has been going through some really big growth spurts and they seem to go together.
😉
If this baby-on-the-way is anything like my 4 year old, I will NEED some of these –
Thanks!
Great idea- Also wonderful for giving your child medicine- just in case=)
This is a great idea! Enter me to win!

Oh, wow, this is very interesting! Would love to try this out on our baby in Feb!

My daughter in law is due in March, she would love this! Count me in!
Wow, what genius! This will solve so many problems!
Thanks again for hosting all the contests!
I have a reflux baby…count me in on this one!
My son spits up A-L-L the time. There is hardly a feeding that goes by without me seeing it again..mostly all over me! I has started to use receiving blankets as burp cloths because normal ones were not thick enough to soak up his many surprises during the day. This would be SO helpful to us!
As a Mom of 2 reflux kids I know all about spitters. My 10 month old still spits too much, this would be a great help and cute at the same time.
I’ve had 2 spitters and 2 non-spitters. My youngest is finally outgrowing it, but I’d love to win this to give as a gift.
My baby didn’t spit up until she was almost two months old, now she spits up fairly regularly – so sign me up for this contest!
That’s really neat! Sign me up!
Great item
Hi, Both of my sons were spitter-uppers! One a little more than the other. A diaper on my shoulder became part of my apparel! Please enter me in your wonderful contest! Thanks,Cindi
What a great idea!
Fortunately none of my six kiddos have had issues with spitting up. My nephew, on the other hand, spit up ALL THE TIME! It didn’t seem that my sister ever figured out why or how to stop it.
My son wasn’t really bad, but somehow he always saved his best upchucks for his daddy! These are great…I have never heard or seen anything like them! They really would have comein handy for the nursing dribbles! I would love to win some for my sister who is due with her first in Feb! Thanks for the hreat info and the awesome chance to win!
My son wasn’t terrible, but Kailey (not 2) was aweful! She was the niagra falls of spitting up. There is no way to even describe how much she spit up. I’m so greatful those days are over!
Hope we don’t need this but to have one would be great. Cool little gadget. Thanks!
My last one gushed everywhere. Both of us went through laundry like crazy.
My 13 month old was a MAJOR spitter. It would spit up almost 1/3 to half of what he ate. I finally gave him a little bit of apple cider vinegar (about 1/4 tsp) two times a day for three days and he quit spitting up like that. He was said to have had a little bit of acid reflux because he was 6 weeks early and said not to have developed his stomach good yet.
Well basically someone doesn’t have acid reflux… they don’t make enough acid… so that’s why the apple cider vinegar worked… gave him more acid in his stomach.
He now rarely spits up.

Mine is a spitter. She’s gotten a little better since she’s gotten older but she still surprises me sometimes. Great item.
My first was a spitter; we’ll see what happens with #2. This seems like a great product.
my baby boy could use this fab idea now
My kids didn’t have a problem with spitting up but my nephew and my husband’s great nephew both seem to have issues with it.
This is a great idea. I like it.
My children spit up a little. My oldest until we found a formula that agreed with her. The other two were breast fed until they were older. My grandson spit up just about everything that was put in. They finally found a special formula that he could keep down. He is under weight and a picky eater. Other than that he is happy and healthy!!
Neat idea. please enter me!
What a cute idea! Enter me!
Neat! I would love this!
I would love to have one of these. My daughter didn’t spit up everytime she ate but it was pretty frequently that she did. I’m not pregnant with number 2 and I might just need this!
How neat!
Very “handy!” Would love one of these!!
Because my now 8wks old baby didnt spit up at all, and because its supposedly common with babies, I was upset thinking “Im not making enough milk, what will he spit up, if his stomach isnt full?”
It was only his amazing weight gain that made me realise he was a *clean* boy,!
Although he now drools a lot.. a lot and a burpee would be great!
My son has reflux and thinks that once the food has been eaten, it is time to spit it back out. I think he spits more than he keeps down. These would be great!!
i’m expecting in february-please enter me!
j_purpero@hotmail.com
My boys both had reflux. oldest spit up until he was 18 months … orange and green carpet was/is not in style! 🙂 Youngest was milder in comparrison but still was a spitter! Please enter me for next baby!
I’d love one of these for my next baby on the way! 😉
so clever!!
sounds great to me!
I too am lucky in this as my DS never spit up much. I always assumed it was a formula vs. breast thing since my half brother (formula fed) would spit up at least half of every meal. Ick! However my mom said my brother (breastfed) did the projectile spit up thing for awhile too.
Sometimes newborns spit up because the milk is actually coming too fast for them….if your breasts are really full when you nurse, sometimes it just shoots into their little tummies!! One idea is to try expressing a little milk before you nurse to see if that makes a difference!
My daughter spit up a lot. Now she doesn’t spit up as much, but she still dribbles when she drinks her bottle and I have to hold the burp cloth under her chin to catch it all. The handy burpee would be great to have!
This would be great for my dear daughter…she is currently one month old and learning to use a bottle, too…
I haven’t had to deal with that for a bit now. But every now and then he will throw up in his mouth and not spit it out until I tell him he’s gross.
My first daughter was awful…she had a bib on constantly for about 9 months (except at night). My four month old is better, no constant bib, but I have a burp cloth handy at all times. Count me in on this! 🙂
