Christmas can be difficult if you’re away from your family and friends.
My husband’s entire family lives in Italy and while he misses them everyday of the year, holidays sting more.
But earlier this year, Rob’s parents finally got Internet access at their home and the first thing his brother did was set up a webcam and Skype for them.
For Nonno and Nonna, seeing and hearing their little granddaughters through the computer is priceless.
Every Saturday morning, we call Italy computer to computer through Skype. Julia loves to show off her toys to her little cousin Emily and say “Ciao” to all her aunts and uncles. It means so much to us that Julia can still be seeing her family in Italy every week and really knowing who they are. She constantly talks about Nonno and Nonna and her memories of being there on their farm stay fresher when she can see and talk to them regularly.

Yes! We use Skype all the time. My brother just moved to Australia a few months ago. I am so grateful that I can still talk to him without going broke with long distance bills. Plus, it’s amazing to be able to SEE him on the computer… just like on the Jetson’s.

My brother in law and his family just got a webcam for Christmas. He’s called us 10 times (or more) wanting to video chat, but we don’t have the capabilities. I do use skype on a daily basis. It’s incredible.. The service was much better in the early days before so many discovered it. Now the background noise is very loud, I was told due to so many users…. over 11,000,000 on christmas! AND you do lose calls after talking more than 20 mins usually. They offer several plans, pc to pc free and then you can pay as little as $3 monthly to call landlines and cell phones from your pc. My friends wish I had a better webcam tho which would make it so much nicer when calling friends and family far away. I didn’t have one at all for years… I have used skyped for a couple years now… so finally got an inexpensive one but it doesnt work that well. and doesn’t adjust or angle at all. It would be great to win this webcam…

I was introduced to Skype this year by a friend and now I use it daily to grow my relationship with him even though he lives on the other side of the country from me (I live in AB and he lives in NS, Canada). The first person I’d contact if I won this new webcam would be Heath. We use Skype almost every day to speak about how our day went, listen to music together and even play games. I have been introduced to his mother via Skype and I am looking forward to my parents meeting him via Skype as well (a new webcam would enable them to do that). I am hoping to travel to spend some time with Heath in 2009. Using Skype together is definitely the next best thing to being there in person.

OH, this is super exciting! I have never used Skype, but I have heard all about it and am eager to get on the bandwagon. Last year we moved from Oregon to Texas, and we have been missing our family *desperately*. This would be awsome. I never have been able to use Skype as i dont have a webcam but i would love to use it. We have family all over the east coast but mainly we woul dlove to use it with my Aunts and Grandma in FLorida who only get to see my boys once a year. I know my 85yo grandma would love to see her babies everyday instead of once a year.

My husband is from England and he also misses his family much. He has been using Skype to call them at deeply discounted rates for about a year. It would be so great to have a webcam to “enhance” our calls a little… especially with a new baby on the way in Feb. It would be great for them to see her “live” rather than in still pictures.

Well, I can’t compete with ITALY (LOL) but I’m on the opposite side of the state from my mom and I’m her only child so the Vikings are her only grandbabies. She would be THRILLED to no end if we could hook her up like you did for your family overseas!

We use Skype all the time, especially since we’re living in Brazil. It’s so wonderful to be able to keep in touch with family and friends….but my parents need a better camera, so this would be perfect!!!! My son Camden would definitely call Papa and Gamma!

I’ve never used skype before but think it would be easy even for my low-tech parents. The web cam would great to give to the them so they can see/talk to the kids. They only get to see the kids in person 1-2 times a year.

My daughter has a skype phone and talks to family overseas all the time. And the nice thing is i never see any long distance charges like i had before with her sister.

Oh, I’ve been wanting this SO bad! I’ve never used Skype before, but I’d call all of our family members all over the place! We rarely get to see everyone because everyone is so scattered all around the US..this would be a great device to keep us connected! 🙂

I have never used Skype before but I know just who I’d call first…my mom while holding my little boy in my lap. A drunk driver hit my mom head-on last year and she has been hundreds of miles away unable to visit very much because of all the pain she’s in and the physical therapy she’s had to undergo. It breaks her heart that she doesn’t get to visit with her one and only grandchild that much and seeing him through a webcam every day would be the next best thing!

I have never used Skype at home, only at my parents when they speak to my uncle in south africa or cousins in Israel. My older sister and her family are moving to a different continent this summer and we were just discussing adding international calling (we use phone cards now) to our phone plan. For some reason we never thought of skype (until now). I would love to be able to keep up with my sister on a daily basis like we do now and be able to see my neices and nephews growing up. My twins are under a year and I would hate for them to grow up without “seeing” their cousins.

You know what’s funny about this is that I loaded Skype on my computer many months back and have yet to figure it all out. I would love for my parents to be able to interact with my parents on the other side of the country.

We do use Skype so The Bean can chat with her grandparents. She loves calling them on the computer. We do need a new webcam though. Ours is having problems lately!

My hubby’s parents are from England, & have retired to Greece (Corfu). We visit every few years but inbetween, phone calls can really be impersonal. I just looked over the Skype features & it sounds like something we really should look into. I kinda can’t believe we haven’t before. It would be great for Nana to be able to see her juju boy while talking to him!

We love skype. My DH is in Iraq so Skype is the only way my 4 daughters and I communicate with him. They love to kiss daddy on the computer… my screen is always a mess these days! We’ve just bought a web cam for Gamma (DH’s mom) who lives 5 hours away from her 4 granddaughters and plan to begin skyping with her soon as well. Thanks for the great giveaway!!
