Say the name Kirk Cameron, and most of us immediately remember the wise cracking Mike Seaver of Growing Pains. His huge grin and brown leather jacket were trademarks of the hit TV sitcom that ran from 1985-1992.
But Kirk Cameron quickly grew out of his teen role and into a passionate Christian, dedicated to his family and spreading the message of hope in Christ.
In fact, what is most remarkable about Kirk is not his teen-star days as Mike Seaver, but his conviction for living a Christ-centered life.
As a happily married father to six kids – he married Growing Pains co-star Chelsea Noble in 1992 – Kirk spends his working hours on inspirational, faith-based projects like The Way of The Master, The Left Behind movies, Camp Firefly and his latest movie, FIREPROOF.
FIREPROOF, the #1 inspirational movie in America, is the latest movie from Sherwood Pictures, the creators of FACING THE GIANTS, and is available on DVD January 27th.

It is a compelling and beautiful film. Personally, I can’t imagine anyone watching it and not being impacted by its messages.

I recently had the chance to interview Kirk for a podcast here at 5 Minutes for Mom.
Chatting with Kirk was as casual and fun as you would imagine. He immediately caught my Canadian accent when I said, “Sorry.” (Apparently we Canadians say, “sore-e” not “sorry.”)
We had a great conversation about his days with Growing Pains, his involvement in Fireproof, his own marriage, and how Fireproof is transforming lives and saving marriages. (Kirk told me about a divorce lawyer who insists his clients view the movie!)

- During your time on Growing Pains, you met and married your wife Chelsea and you went from being an atheist to a dedicated Christian. Can you tell us a bit about that time in your life? How did you find Christ?

I rarely take the time to listen to podcasts, but this one caught my attention – and I’m so glad that I listened in! I think Kirk Cameron’s commitment to his wife is inspiring and his “policy” about not kissing any other woman is so admirable (and so rare in Hollywood).

This movie is wonderful for everyone. If you are not married, it can teach you how to be a good spouse. If you are married and happy, even you can learn something…. If you are unhappily married, it can teach you how to make your marriage better. If you are on the verge of divores, buy the Fire Proof, Love Dare bundle and learn how to be happy again. Do your self a favor and watch this movie, no matter who you are, you will find yourself heart broken then repaired all in one evening. One of the best movies I have ever seen. I sure wish there were more movies like this in the theatres today.

I heard this movie was great!
I grew up watching Kirk Cameron on TV, and I deeply respect him for not being corrupted by the Hollywood lifestyle. So nice to see that a “child star” has maintained his convictions and walked the higher road. My husband and I rarely go to movies. But we went to see Fireproof in the theater and were so glad we did. Wonderful, touching movie, and had some surprising laughs as well.

What a wonderful giveaway!!! I had my husband pick it up yesterday & he said there were only a handfull left (well, he said maybe 20 left out of the whole display). this was one of the best movies out there for its content. In the beginning the connection between the 2 costars is a little stiff…but then as the movie progresses so does the connection. It was so much fun when we went to theatre as a small girls night out time. No one had a dry eye at some points.( dont want to give it away) what really impressed me was the fact that after the movie I read that he never even hugged the actress in the movie. That Kirk demanded that any semi intimate scenes with hugs or kisses would be with his own wife only. What a stand in Hollywood. There were people of all ages there and they all seemed ot love it!

When I was in high school, I started going to a youth group in the church he and his family attended. The day I found out he was going on a water skiing trip with us was one of the happiest of my teen years!
I remember how nice, sweet and funny he was to all us giggling girls and how nice and patient his (then) girlfriend was. That trip was one of my best memories from that year and the pictures me and my girlfriends took are ones we still gush over! And, I went to brunch with him once!
If, by chance, he reads any of these I’ve always wanted to tell him thank you for being so nice. The years I was in that youth group were very hard ones because of my parent’s divorce and he and his (then) girlfriend sat down with several of us and just talked and listened. It meant a lot back then and I really appreciate it. *tearing up a little*

We haven’t seen this movie yet, but loved the previous two movies; Facing the Giants and Flywheel. I am really hoping that we (hubby and I) can get to see this one soon, Lord willing! We’ve been married almost 20 years, and I can tell you already–we’ve been through the fire, and survived! The Lord has kept us together and helped us to keep our eyes on Him. With all I have heard about “Fireproof” so far, it sounds like a great tool for married couples. Bravo!
