Horizon Organic® – A Fantastic Company and a Fabulous Prize…

I am so impressed with this company because of its commitment to organic farming AND because it offers fantastic organic dairy products like their new DHA Omega-3 milk, the only organic milk enhanced with an Omega-3 fatty acid that helps support heart, brain and eye health. (The company sent us a few liters of this milk to sample and it tastes great!)
What is DHA and why do we want it in our milk?
DHA is found primarily in fatty fish and organ meats, and most Americans, especially kids, don’t eat enough of these foods to get the recommended amount of DHA in their diets. But it is a tricky problem to solve – the FDA and EPA recommend that young children limit their fish intake to 3 servings/week due to potential mercury contamination. According to expert Dr. Greene, “Most American kids are not getting the DHA they need. The typical three-year-old needs about 150 mg of DHA a day. On average, they are only getting about 19 mg, a tiny fraction of what they need for optimal brain growth.”

Thanks for this information. I’m intrigued by Horizon’s decision to put DHA in their milk. I wonder if milk is a good vehicle for DHA, whether it enhances the body’s ability to use DHA.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVE Horizon products. My daughter can’t get enough of their milk! I hope to win this contest…..those coupons would so come in handy around here.
this is the only milk we drink- skim at that. My dh switched because of the great taste but I did it to not give my children hormones and antibiotics unnecessary to them. Ever wonder why our kids are so big- in size and weight? It’t the hormones… think about it- they give the cows hormones to help produce more milk.. my girls need to stay girls until it is time for them to mature- with a healthy diet! We all need antibiotics to work when they need to..

I love Horizon too! We used to live in MD and we took our girls with another family to one of their farms. It was so much fun to see how they package their things. Horizon is a great company and I am always willing to pay a little more for my milk knowing it doesn’t have anything weird in it.
