Let’s Talk About Integrity!

There’s been too much negativity mucking up the blogosphere. It’s time to start talking about integrity.

If you’re a regular reader here at 5 Minutes for Mom, you’ll know that Janice and I love to be positive. We never gripe or bash other bloggers. We like to keep our site free from negativity and instead create a place where women can be uplifted and supported.

But lately, as I’m sure you’re aware, the blogosphere has been infected with bad juice from all directions. Janice and I have been biting our tongues and holding back from posting about any of it.

And thankfully, now we have something positive to say…

Susan Getgood, Liz Gumbinner, Kristen Chase, and Julie Marsh have initiated a movement called Blog With Integrity.

Blog with IntegrityBlog With Integrity is a pledge to adhere to a simple code of conduct that emphasizes our commitment to our readers and our community. We signed the pledge and we’re proudly displaying the badge on our site to let visitors know we value disclosure and respect.

At the Social Luxe party during BlogHer 09, Janice talked to one of the Blog With Integrity founders, Liz Gumbinner.

So what about you?

Do you want to tell the world that you are a blogger with integrity? Display the badge and sign the pledge and let’s fill the blogosphere with positive vibes and a good dose of integrity!

Kmart DesignWe want to shout out a huge thanks to our video sponsor Kmart Design.

We sincerely appreciate Kmart helping us produce these video interviews so that we can bring the BlogHer 09 experience home to you.

They invited a few of us for a fabulous styling event and we wore many Kmart outfits and accessories throughout the conference. (In fact, the accessories Janice is wearing in this video were given to us by Kmart.)

We are proud to be supported by a store that is so affordable and is helping women satisfy their desire for style while still balancing the family budget.

I really like the blog.I have shared your site with many friends and family. It is always a pleasure to read.

  4. I am suprised by the extent of some of the negativity – and getting sick of hearing about it to be honest.
I signed the pledge and put up the button! Great idea!

  5. Hmmm… Something weird about a plea for “blogging with integrity” followed by a pitch for Kmart including detailing the free stuff you got. Transparency does not equal integrity. And neither does being positive, by the way.

I’m going to go read the pledge. I think this is an awesome idea!

  7. I have been getting weary of the negativity. It’s always a relief to come to your blog and see things as status quo. You go girls!

    I love your videos also!

I bite my tongue A LOT. Call me a people pleaser… I’m ready to defend everything that I do with my blog because I think of it as my business, it supports my family and I love what I do. God forbid I do that right? I’ve taken the pledge and I’m displaying the badge on our disclosure page :-).

  11. I wrote a blog post about this and added the button to my blog! What a great movement!

    Hi Susan!

    A. I LOVE your positivity (as always). It’s so important for women to support each other.

    B. Are you going to do a post with some pictures of your Kmart clothing items from the styling session? I’d love to see what new clothes are in your closet and hear what you think of them.

  13. I can’t believe how much negativity I have seen in the blogosphere. I realize that there is freedom of speach, but I think it is so mean to downright attack other people. Sharing stories from life and sharing an open commentary is such a fun way to stay connected with people, but sometimes things get out of hand. Thanks for doing this.

  14. thanks so much. i will sign and put the badge up. unfortunately i have experianced negativity in the blogosphere.

Kirtsied & love that y’all keep it positive. Keep the vids coming! <3 Liz, Janice, Susan & the 5MfM crew.

  16. I’m so happy to hear that many of you have not experienced much, if any, negativity in the blogosphere. I think that reflects the types of blogs you read. I find that bloggers who put positive words out into the blogosphere, receive positive words back. And if you’re looking for good, you find it… and likewise with bad.

Keep filling the blogosphere with goodness so that we squeeze the bad into the corners!

  17. Ditto…..I don’t think I’ve ever thought about blogging without integrity.

I have yet, to really see any negativeness towards bloggers from other bloggers (if that makes any sense 🙂 ) I have heard a lot about it. I try to just leave positive comments on blog posts and stay in my little corner of the internet 🙂 I have taken the pledge as well and proudly display my badge on my blog. 🙂

  19. That’s so awesome! I just signed the pledge and put the button up on my blog. Seems like people say a lot of things online that they wouldn’t even dream of saying in person to someone’s face. What a great way to focus on the positive!

  20. Pamela Kramer says:

Seems odd to me that this subject keeps coming up. I don’t think I’ve ever thought about blogging without integrity. Personally I think professionalism stretches far and wide no matter what you do. It’s just the kind of person I try to be.

  21. An awesome idea. I’ve snagged the badge and signed the pledge. Fortunately I haven’t had a problem yet with internet trolls but many I follow have. There’s always someone out to spoil your fun, isn’t there?

  22. Hey Janice and Susan. I still read 5M4M everyday I just rarely comment. But you are so write the negativity in the Blog community really does need to cease. I mean our Blogs are “our” blogs and their shouldn’t be any bashing of what one writes.

Anyhow I am all about this Blog with Intergrity.

Hope the 2 of you are doing super. Richard is still loving the laptop. It has been a wonderful gift for him. Much love to you guys.

  23. Sisterlisa says:

Thank you for this announcement. I added our sites to this.

  24. This is so incredibly encouraging!!

  25. Sugar Jones says:

I have taken the pledge and put up the badge. I agree that there’s room in our community for every kind of blogger, but I’m thankful that these women stepped up to shed light on what integrity in this space means. I hope next year, we’ll be talking about all the great press we got and some amazing stories that came of it all.
