5 Minutes for Books: Stealing with Style

Looking for a clean mystery series that you can relax and enjoy? I have the most WONDERFUL treat for you! Author Emyl Jenkins has begun writing a fabulous mystery series surrounding a lady by the name of Sterling Glass who is an antiques appraiser. Can antiques be mysterious and intriguing? Thanks to Jenkins, yes they can be!

There are two books in the series so far. The first is Stealing with Style and gives you a good introduction to who Sterling is, as well as some of the key players in her world. However, I actually started by reading the second book, The Big Steal and did not feel lost by the activities in the book. Either title stands alone, in my opinion. They are both excellent reading choices.

Before you read any further into this particular post, I would heartily recommend that you read my review of The Big Steal which I posted about over at Reading to Know. That will give you some additional context as to why I think this series is so marvelous. These books are clean (i.e., not explicit in scene or content at all). They are engaging, knowledgeably written, entertaining and personable books. I would list more positive attributes but you’d get tired of hearing what I had to say.

I really love the mystery genre but find it hard to locate modern mysteries that aren’t over-the-top with blood, gore, sex or language. I also don’t like to be creeped out. I like mystery but not thrillers. (Not to say that Sterling Glass mysteries aren’t thrilling because they are that.) But they were low key thrills which allow me to stay home alone in the house at night without being too fearful. I get all of the fun without any of the pain of an imagination gone haywire afterwards.

After reading The Big Steal, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of Stealing With Style, quite hopeful that I would find the series as a whole delightful and not just one particular title. I was not disappointed (in the least).

I heartily recommend, encourage, and will stop just short of forcing you to throw these books into your Amazon shopping cart and enjoy them for yourselves. I look forward to the next book in the series!

For more information on Sterling Glass and her creator, visit Emyl Jenkin’s website.

I am delighted to say that the publisher has graciously and generously agreed to give away a copy of these two books to one of our readers. If you would like to win these books and enjoy some mysterious good fun then leave a comment below. U.S. Residents only please.

  30. What you’re looking for is called a “Cozy” mystery. They are the “Mrs. Marple”, Tamar Mayers, Jean Hagar, Diane Mott Davidson, Puzzle solving style mysteries without the more “Hardboiled” or “Thriller” aspects of the genre.
