I’m dreaming of a glass of sweet tea and a plate of fried green tomatoes as I browse through photos of my recent Girlfriends’ Getaway trip to Sevierville, Tennessee.
My stress evaporated in the fresh air of the Great Smoky Mountains. I rode a horse through a winding trail and snapped scenic photos. I made a wish as I walked across America’s longest swinging bridge. And we drove up the winding roads of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park stopping along the way to capture the beauty.
I loved the taste true southern cooking. It was my first time eating Biscuits and Gravy, Southern Fried Chicken, Grits and Fried Green Tomatoes. And I was completely surprised to discover that “Barbecue” has an entirely different meaning in the South than it does in the Pacific Northwest. We followed the locals to Clint’s BBQ for platefuls of authentic hot smoked barbecue meat.
Sevierville’s main industry is tourism and they’ve got countless activities and attractions for everyone to enjoy. We packed so much into a couple days but we all kept talking about how we can’t wait to bring our families back to see more. One of our favorite spots — where we all want to bring our kids — is Rainforest Adventures. We had a blast taking pictures of all the adorable animals and cool characters there.
One of the most amazing parts of our getaway was Zip Lining in the Smoky Mountains. But that adventure deserves a post of its own. Come back here to 5 Minutes for Mom next week for photos from the Zip Line.
Disclosure: My trip and activities were paid for by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce. All opinions are my own.
