Jackson came home from school singing Christmas carols today.
His sweet voice brought me right into the holiday spirit.
Kids are in love with Christmas. They believe in its magic, even if they can’t understand what it is all about.
Whether it is a toddler transfixed by glowing Christmas ornaments, a four year old climbing on Santa’s lap to whisper her biggest wish, or a seven year old gently laying baby Jesus in the Nativity scene, kids tingle with hope at Christmas time.
This Christmas, we get to sprinkle some Christmas hope and joy out into the community with our first annual Under The Tree program.
Under the Tree is about getting some of that Christmas magic (bloggy style!) right to some families who need it!
And here is how we are going to do it — with your help of course. 🙂
We will be choosing several families to sponsor this Christmas.
The wonderful companies who are taking part in our Christmas Giveaway 2008 are donating items for our sponsored families.
So, in addition to providing prizes for our readers to win by commenting on the individual reviews, the companies participating in the Christmas Giveaway 2008 are providing presents to these selected families who are in need this Christmas.
We are so blessed to partner with such generous companies.
We know there is so much need out there, especially in these difficult economic times, but through Under the Tree, we hope we can share the spirit of Christmas and ease the burden from some families who just don’t know how they will be able to provide presents for their children this Christmas.
How you can help?
If you know a family who will not be able to provide presents for their children this Christmas, please nominate them in the comments below or send a private email to us at info(at)5minutesformom(dot)com.
Please leave personal information, such as last names, out of your nomination, but do include the number and ages of the children.
It’s going to be very tough narrowing the nominees down to just a few families. But due to the fact that we only have a limited number of gifts, we will have to make those hard decisions.
Since we do not want to disappoint anyone, please do not let the families know that you are nominating them. If we choose them, we will contact you to verify the details and then determine if the families want to accept the gifts.
Please note that we will also not post personal information about the families that we select. We’d like to keep it as private as possible.
We will do our best to match presents to children according to their age and gender, therefore the families we choose may be determined by the suitability of the gifts we have.
We will keep the nominations open until November 20th, 2008.
Please feel free to also post one of our Under The Tree buttons on your blog or site. Click here to get the button codes. We greatly appreciate you spreading the word and commenting here to show your support.
Your enthusiasm for Under the Tree and for the participating companies generosity helps pave the way for future projects!
THANK YOU for helping us transform these families’ holiday season into a time of blessing and excitement!

I just found this out and hope its not too late…I have an ex coworker who got the swine flu and ended up on oxygen and lost her job due to it she couldnt find a job for a month but finally found one as a security guard with a huge pay cut she is still trying to catch up on rent utilities and then her car broke down….she had to use her first check to pay 600.00 and some odd cents to fix her car because they live ten miles out of town with no bus system out there i know her kids know whats going on and don’t care if they get anything but i think all kids should have at least one present under the tree…i seen her sons letter to santa clause in the newspaper from his school and he put “Dear Santa, i am ten years old and my sister is 14. i was going to ask you to bring my sister earings and me a transformer but we decided we don’t want anything at all, just as long as you can heal my mommys heart and make her not sad anymore. she told us santa might not visit this year and its okay you are very busy and other children need you but please help our mommy not be sad.” i even spelled as exactly he did but it was so heartfelt and sad i wish i could do something for them but i am struggling myself. her email address is [email protected] i think she can check email at work.

My sister is very much in need. She was happily married but her husband began doing drugs and became very abusive , so she did what was best for her children and left. she is now a divorced single mother of thre wonderful boys, Donald ahe 5, Michael age 2 and christopher age 1. She left everything she had and is now living day to day. she gets 200 a month from child support. and hasnt been able to work because she cant afford daycare. she has cried many night especially lately because it is christmas time and she cant buy anything for her kids. i gave her a tree so thats all she has. the kids are wonderful kids and deserve a good christmas they have been through so much,, and so has she she has endured alot of abuse from childhood to adult hood and still is a strong loving person. she gives even when she has nothing but a smile and a sweet word she still thinks of others instead of her own needs, so thats why i want this for her, i think she deserves that smile back.

I want to nominate my family for this, I am a mother of 5 wonderful children, recently we lost everything we had due to domestic violence, we were able to flee with just the clothes we were wearing. We moved into a d.v. shelter out of town where we stood for 2 month as it was a 8 week program. Two of my kids had birthdays during this time and I could do nothing for them as I was not working. We finally moved back in town and lived in transitional shelters and with my daughter but that wasn’t working either. I finally found a job and got a place with my cousin and his room mate (as there is no way i can afford a place by myself @ this time) Things are going good my kids are finally in a stable home and going back to school. This christmas will be like many others because when we were with our abuser we weren’t allowed to have “fun” he would give my kids books and say “thats your present”. So you see why I would really love for them to be nominated for this as they never really had a “christmas”. Please consider them for the under the tree program. thanks

I would like to nominate my daughter and her two children. My daughter is a single mother of a son who just turned two last week and a daughter who will be 5 in January. She is a very hard working single mother and is currently a college student, so she is not working. And that makes pretty tough times right now for her qand her children. If I could do it myself I so would but things aren’t that great for myself either, andI just would love to see my grandchildren get to have a good christmas this year, especially since they are both at the pefect age to get completely involved in Christmas and the whole spirit of the season.

I couldn’t find a newer post for this, but I wanted to say “THANK YOU” from the very bottom of my heart! My family was one of the recipients of this program, and I can’t tell you how good it feels to know that I can buy my son and daughter at least some of the small things that they asked for with the KMart/Sears gift card that we received. I will take pictures of our day with the Kodak EasyShare camera and use the beautiful PeaceLoveMom tote regularly. Thank you so much for adding this joy to our holiday!

My co worker Venus Cole, is a single mother of a 15 and 12 year old girl. 7 weeks ago her 15 year old daughter gave birth to a little girl. Venus has been coping as well as possible with the added task of caring now for a baby in their already small apartment. 2 weeks ago the family was in a very bad car accident, and her 15 year old daughter was hospitalized for a week, leaving Venus to care for her baby and try to get to Scottsdale Osborn daily to see her daughter. Venus brushed aside her injuries to do so. Her daughter is now home, walking with a walker. Venus is to have surgery this week for her fractured leg.
They were supposed to move to a 2 bedroom this month to save money and are now unable at this time to downsize. Venus is scared of what is to come, she is currently on leave from her job and is trying to care for her kids and grandaughter as best she can.
Now they are unable to leave the home, the thought of Chistmas is a burden to her, but the thought of providing food and formula is an even greater threat.
Please help her family. I worry that Venus is at the end of her rope. Thank you so very much.

I would like to nominate my family…My husband go laid off the week before Thanksgiving. He managed to find a job right away–except the company doesn’t have the money to pay their employess all the time. He hasn’t gotten a check and we have zero money…We have an almost 3yr old son and I’m not sure if we will be able to have the Christmas we would like. I work at a school, but I don’t get paid for the time I’m off at winter break-so I only get one more check before that and that has to go to bills…Thanks

MY FAMILY WAS RIPPED A PART DUE TO ME TRYING TO HOLD ON TO THE THOUGHT OF BEING A FAMILY WITH A ABUSIVE GUY. I FELT LIKE I COULD CHANGE THE PATERN OF THE ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP AND KEEP MY FAMILY TOGETHER. I MEAN I WANT MY CHILDREN TO BE IN A HOUSE HOLD WITH BOTH PARENTS AND I WAS WILLING TO ACCEPT ANY KIND OF TREATMENT TO KEEP MY FAMILY TOGETHER. BUT THE SITUATION BACK FIRED ON ME AND NOW I DON’T HAVE MY FAMILY AT ALL.9 MONTHS AGO MY EX WENT OUT AND CAME BACK INTOXICATED AND WANTED TO FIGHT I MEAN IT WAS LIKE A MOVIE. ANY WAYS I TOOK ALL THE HITS I COULD TO KEEP HIM FROM WAKING UP THE KIDS AND THE NEIGHBORS. I CALLED MY MOM AND TOLD HER I NEEDED HER BECAUSE WE WERE INTO IT AGAIN BUT IT WAS LATE AND SHE WAS FED UP WITH ME CONTINUING TO ACCEPT THE TYPE OF TREATMENT THAT THE GUY WAS GIVING ME. SO I CALLED 911 HE SNACTED THE PHONE SO I WAS LEFT TO PRAY.THAT MADE HIM VERY UPSET AND HE KICKED ME IN MY CHEST WHILE I WAS ON MY KNEES PRAYING.SO THAT WHEN I KNEW IT WAS TIME TO RUNN AND GET HELP.SO I GRAB THE FEW KIDS THAT I COULD GRAB BUT I HAD TO LEAVE OUR BABY. MY MOM LIVED RIGHT DOWN THE STREET SO I COULD RUN THE KIDS TO HER DOOR AND LET HER KNOW TO CALL THE POLICE AND THAT I WAS SCARED BECAUSE THIS WAS THE WORST THAT I HAD EVER SEEN HIM AND I WAS SCARED.BUT THAT DIDN’T WORK HE RAN BEHIND ME AND PUNCHED ME WHILE I HAD MY SON ON MY BACK WE FELL. I TOLD THE KIDS TO RUN WHILE HE WAS DRAGING ME BY MY HANDS TO THE CURB WHERE HE STARTED STUMPING MY HEAD INTO THE CURB. BUT I FELT THIS RUSH OF ANGER AND SURVILE KNOWING MY CHILDREN WHERE WATCHING SO I GOT MY ASS UP AND RAN FOR THE BOYS. HE GRAB ONE OF MY BOYS ARM AND I SAW A METAL OBJECT SO I GRABED MY SON TO PROTECT HIM AND WE TUSSLED FOR A MINUTE AND HE DROP THE METAL OBJECT WHICH I LATER FOUND OUT WAS A BLADE. i PICKED IT UP AND GOT TO SWINGING SAYING LET MY BABY GO.HE DID WE RAN TO MY MOTHERS. I TOLD HER I THINK I JUST CUT MY EX AND HE MIGHT BE IN BAD SHAPE CALL THE POLICE. I RAN BACK TO MY HOUSE WHERE MY BABY GIRL WAS AND THE AMBULANCE WAS PULLING UP IN FRONT OF THE MY HOUSE WHERE THE POLICE WAS. SO I WALKED UP AND THEY ASKED ME WHO I WAS AND ASKED HIM DID I DO THIS. HE SAID YES. THEY AUTOMATICALLY RUFFED ME UP AND PUT ME IN THE CAR. I WAAS TRYING TO TELL THEM WHAT HAPPEN BUT THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT GETTING MY EX THE AMBULANCE. SO I DIDN’T WANT TO BRING HIM ANY HARM SO I PRAYED ASKING FOR FORGIVNESS IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE POLICE CAR. THE OFFICER ASKED MY EX WHO CAN COME GET THE BABY AND I GUESS HE SAID HIS SISTER. I INSISTED THAT SHE GOES TO MY MOMS HOUSE AT THE CORNER ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL HER. WELL THE OFFICER CHOOSE TO WAIT ON MY EX’S SISTER WHO NEVER CAME SO THEY CALLED CPS. SO NOW MY FREEDOM IS GONE ALONG WITH MY BABY. I HATE MY SELF FOR LEAVING MY BABY THAT NIGHT. SO THEY CHARGED ME WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER. I WAS IN THAT CELL FOR 24 HOURS BECAUSE I WAS SUICIDLE WELL I TRIED TO HURT MYSELF MORE THEN ONCE AND THEY STRIPPED ME BUT NECKED AND THREW ME IN THE BASMENT WHERE MURDERS AND DERANGED PEOPLE WERE. I WAS JUST OUT OF IT I HAD ALL OF THESE THINGS TO DEAL WITH IN A CLOSET LIKE CELL. WELL I FINALLY GOT MY THOUGHT CORRECT THRU PRAYER AND COMMON SCENSE KNOWING THAT IF I WANTED CLOTHES ON AND TO MOVE BACK UPSTAIRS IN THE GENERAL POPULATION I NEEDED TO GET IT RIGHT. SO I DID AND BY THAT TIME THE DA WAS READY TO TELL ME IF THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME OR NOT. WELL I’M NOT IN JAIL THROUGHT THE GRACE OF GOD. THE STATE WENT BACK AND SAW PREVIEOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGES SO THEY BELEIVED ME WHEN I STATED THAT I WAS ONLY PROTECTING MY CHILDREN. I WAS IN JAIL FOR A MONTH AND A WHILE IN THERE CPS HAD A COURT DAY FOR THE PLACEMENTS OF ALL MY CHILDREN WITH OUT CONTACTING ME. WELL WHEN I GOT OUT I FOUND OUT WHY I COULD NOT GET MY CHILDREN BACK IF THE STATE DROPPED THE CHARGES. THEY MADE UP A REASON TO KEEP ME AND MY CHILDREN AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. MY CHILDREN LOVE ME SO MUCH THAT THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE GOTTEN DAMAGED THE MOST BECAUSE THEY LOST THERE MOTHER OVER NIGHT AND THEN DIDN’T SEE ME ANY MORE FOR A WHILE. NOW WHEN THEY SEEN ME ITS AT A CENTER. I LOST MY FREEDOM,HOUSE,JOB AND FAMILY AND I AM STILL HAPPY BECAUSE THEY ARE WITH MY MOM. THAT MAKES DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE EASIER. SO I DID HAVE TO LEAVE THE STATE,FOR MY SAFTEY BECAUSE MY EX AND HIS FAMILY WILL RETALIATE SO I TRY TO CATCH THE BUS HOME EVERY OTHER MONTH AND CALL THEM EVERY MORNING AND EVENINGS BEFORE THEY GOT TO BED,UNTIL MY KIDS CAN COME WHERE I AM AND START OUR HEALING TOGETHER AND CONTINUE OUR LIVE. I WROTE THIS COMMENT/REQUEST SO THAT PEOPLE CAN HEAR MY STORY AND LEARN FROM IT. GET OUT OF YOUR RELATIONSHIP IF IT IS ABUSIVE.ESPECALLY IF KIDS ARE IN THE HOME.BECAUSE ANYTHING CAN GO WRONG IN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP AND ITS JUST NOT WORTH GAMBLING THE RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU OR YOUR KIDS LIVES AS WELL AS YOUR PARTNERS. IMEAN JUST IMAGINE WHAT MY SITUATION AND KIDS AND EX’S FAMILY WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE IF I WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM EVERYONE LOSSES. BUT I ALSO HAVE A DONTATION REQUEST FOR MY KIDS THIS YEAR. THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALOT AND I AM NOT FINANCALLY ABLE TO GIVE THEM PRESENTS LET ALONE SEE THEM THIS CHRISTMAS. I JUST WISH I COULD SUPRISE THEM WITH EVERYTHING THEY ASKED FOR BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT. MY MOM IS SPECAIL BECAUSE SHE HAS SUPPORTED ME AND MY KIDS THROUGH ALL OF THIS AND I AM THANKFUL. I ASK THAT UNDER THE TREE CAN HELP MY KIDS HAVE A DECENT CHRISTMAS. THIS YEAR. THANK YOU FOR READING MY WORDS OF THOUGHTS.

What started as simply letting a friend of my sister borrow some of my maternity clothes has turned into throwing a baby shower and a nomination for an “Under the Tree” family.
Stephanie (not me just the same name) is 19 and 6 months pregnant. Up until recently she lived with her mother and 8 siblings (ages 11-24) in a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom house. Her oldest sister also has a 3 year old and has another on the way. Their father is out of the picture as he spent 5 years in prison. Once released, he received two DUI and has since returned to prison.
The family has very few extended family, just their grandmother and Uncle Mark (my sister’s boyfriend). Mark tries to keep up with the house repairs. He also keeps the kid’s cars running so they can make it to their jobs (yes anyone who can work in this family does). The oldest daughter has her hands full running family’s transmission shop. The oldest boy is going to college for pharmacy.
Stephanie recently moved in with her uncle as the family home is busting at the seams. After making her day by passing on my maternity clothes, it dawned on us that she doesn’t have anything for the baby either. She also doesn’t have anyone able to give her a baby shower. So my sister and I are stepping up and throwing a small shower.
Despite all the odds against them, the family is close. But for Christmas the extra money for presents is just not there. Please help us make this a joyful Christmas for this family.
Thanks,
Stephanie

I know a family who has just went through a life changing accident. They are friends and there names are Shawn and Heather. A few months ago they were going to move to Missouri, on the way there, Shawn was following behind Heather and their 2 children when she lost control and flipped her car. She was Paralyzed from the chest down along with a whole bunch of other problems. They are overloaded with medical bills and sorrow. They could use all the help they can get. They had to return to there old house which they are trying to remodel to accommodate Heather’s wheelchair. This is the family I want to nominate. The Lashley’s.

I would also like to nominate Reyna. I am her sister and would like to give you more details on her situation. She is 21 years old and has two children. Her son is two years and her daughter is 2 months old. When she was 6 months pregnant she lost her job of 4 years. She had a baby girl on Sep. 17,2008. Just a few mins later the nurses realized it was hard to hear her heartbeat. They also noticed she was having trouble breathing. They took a chest x-ray and saw her heart was on the right side and her intestines were where her heart should have been. Because her intestines was up in her chest, her left lung was under developed. Reyna had no idea anything was wrong until six hours later. Thats when the dr decided to tell her the baby was born with a congenital defect which is called a diaphragmatic hernia. The baby had a hole in her diaphragm and that is how her intestines and heart ended up in the wrong place. My sister was so devastated. That very day they transported her to childrens hospital. The Dr did not allow reyna to go with Aniyah in the ambulance because they said she was in no condition to leave. The next day she left the hospital only to enter another one. Aniyah had surgery when she was 5 days old. They also fould she had 4 heart murmers. Reyna stayed every day and night for 3 weeks in the hospital with her baby and would not leave her sight. It was so heart breaking seeing my neice suffering with so many tubes in her and having my sister watch the nurses coming in and out of the room picking and poking the baby. Reyna had to go weeks without seeing her son because he was not allowed in the icu. Finally she was home. Aniyah was our miracle baby. After surgery she quickly recovered. Even many of the ICU DR.S said she was a miracle baby because of how strong she was and how quickly she recovered. Most babies with that condition stay in the hospital for months. ( because of the under developed lung they have so much trouble breathing) Since Reyna is not working she has been struggling with everything. I was helping her until two weeks ago I also lost my job. I feel horrible because I was her main provider and now I feel helpless. I have 4 children of my own. Please help my sister and her children have a christmas. This would bring joy and happiness to this family. I would love to see my nephew and neice have a wonderful christmas. As a mother I know how hard it is when you cant give your kids the what you want. Especially during the holidays. I think she deserves a break.

I would love to nominate my Sister, Miranda and her family. In February of 2008, Miranda Gave birth to a son, Louis, who at the age of 5 weeks was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis. It is common among newborns and most have a simple surgery and live a normal life. Little Louis was back in the hospital at 3 months old, weighing only 6 pounds. He has since had 2 more surgeries and he has a feeding port in his stomach that he will have to have until at least 2 years of age. Louis gets a special formula to help him gain weight. The doctors have ran every test they can think of and are stumped as to why he is not gaining weight like normal. He is now 9 months old and up to 15 pounds! Though he is small for his age, we are very thankful that he functions normal! To make a long story short, Miranda (my sister) her husband had knee surgery recently and she had to quit her job to take care of Louis full time. No daycare will keep him with his condition. With only receiving disability for 3 months, Miranda’s family became behind on their house payments. They are now in foreclosure and Louis has 3 siblings. Mirand and her family are now living with relatives until they can find a house to rent. I know that Christmas shopping is the last thing on their mind right now. I would really love to see them get some help with Christmas. Thank you for doing all you can to help those in need this Christmas!

I would like to nominate a friend of mine. She is a mom of two toddlers. She is currently living with her mom and stepdad. Her husband has done some terrible things to her and the two little ones; he has now taken her van away from her and is not giving her any support. Christina is very active in our Church and in need of any kids clothes, something to put under the tree and diapers. Thank you for your wonderful offers!!

I’m not so sure if its appropriate to mention my own parents here– but I really wish I could give them a Christmas. There has been more than one time in my life they’ve given up what meant most to them (a guitar when my mom was a musician, a hobby so I could afford college, etc) in order to ensure I have Christmas–and this year when they’re unable to provide for themselves let alone for a holiday, it would mean the world to me to give them something to smile about. My dad has been on workman’s compensation for the last 5 months and has surgery on the 15th, and my mom is a cancer survivor and now disabled individual who like many is waiting on disability. They do animal rescue and would give the animals their last scrap before they ate. Thanks for the opportunity <3

I am writing to nominate my best friend Liza. She has 6 children and has had thyroid cancer and had to have her thyroids removed. Now she is on medication for the rest of her life; along with blood pressure medication. Her 3 younger children still believe in Santa Claus and I would REALLY like for them to have an AWESOME Christmas this Christmas! Liza’s husband is the only one working and what he brings home just barely covers neccesaties. If there is some way you and your friends could help make this a GREAT Christmas; this would be so GREATLY appreciated. I would like to see my Best Friend smile for once. (although we both live so far from one another)…
Thank you and hope to hear from you soon!

I would like for Sonya and john to be of nomination for this years giveaway. Sonya’s 8 year old son has been sick and seeing lots of doctors for his asthma and bi-polar disorder and they also have a 6 year old daughter. On November 20th they had both been laid off of their jobs and have no income comming into the home, they are trying to figure out how to make a house payment by the end of the month or they are going to be forced to move, so instead of buying their children anything for christmas, they are trying to keep the roof over their childrens heads because they feel that it is most important. But I know that them kids are not going to understand that. Please really consider sonya and john for nominees for your christmas giveaway this year. Thank you soooo much.My number is 1-810-982-4648 Sonya is my sister and I love her so much, this is so hard to ever see her struggle and this would make me feel so good ;….not to mention them as well.

I know of a family that could use some Christmas cheer this year. Doris has been not only taking care of her husband who had a stroke 4 years ago, but she has been helping raise and care for her son and his 7 children for two years now. Only 3 of the 7 children are his biological children, the other 4 were his fiances. She died two years ago in a tragic auto accident, and they (the children) have no other family that would take them in and care for them. They have had an especially hard year this year, Doris hasn’t been able to work, they can’t get public assistance, Joe (childrens father)does construction work, and with winter coming jobs will be harder to find, and now their home has been foreclosed upon and they have two to four weeks to find other housing. It will be difficult for them to find proper housing that will accomidate all of them. Joe has a huge heart, he could have sent the other children to foster care, but he knows that would have been too traumatic on all involved. He needs to keep them together. So any kind of “cheer” we could send their way I know would be GREATLY appriciated.

I wish I had been looking for something like this earlier, and hope that you will allow a last minute entry. I would like to nominate my own children. There will, unfortunately be no tree and no presents this year for my children (17, 15, 7 and 5–all girls except the 7 year old). They have had to endure so much this past year, moving multiple times, never able to do what there other friends are able to do, barely enough money to keep enough food on the table and heat in the condo we currently live in. Unfortunately, with the economy its not looking much brighter in the coming months, but worse. This is the first year that WE aren’t the ones giving donations to others (in the past each child would chose one gift that they REALLY wanted and we would donate it to the local Toys for Totss. Thankfully we have found a way to give our time to volunteer for a local agency together which is a gift in itself. I can’t say enough about the resiliency of my children, and their ongoing ability to “look on the bright side”…I know parents are supposed to say that, but I’ve got four children who would make any parent proud to call there own.
As we look to a new year, this would be a wonderful way to let them know, there are people out there who give as much as they do. Thank you for the opportunity to share our story. God Bless.

If it’s not too late I would like to nominate my sister and her family. She has 4 children ages 1,2,10,15. Her husband is a realtor and now with the economy they have been hit very hard. They have their tv, phone, internet shut off and barely keeping their lights and heat on. They are also struggling to keep up with rent. They will not be buying presents this year. Thanks

I would like to nominate my family if I could. I know we might not sound like alot of people that I read about but we are in need. I have been married for 5 years. For the past 2 christmas we don’t have money to have christmas dinner or presents by any way. My husband is the only one that works because I have been a stay at home mom because we cannot afford childcare. This year my son entered Kindergarden and I have been looking for employment I don’t have much experience and I’m told I’m unhireable because I haven’t worked in a long time. Needless to say Christmas is coming again and its always sad each year to see my family go through this once again…This christmas will be like the others we need help. Not for me just something small for my son.We don’t want anything we just want my son to now what it is to have a nice christmas. Thank You!

I nominate my sister and her family including two boys 13,9, and her little girl of 6. She is currently going to college to make a better life for her kids, but cannot currently make ends meet not to mention not being able to buy anything for her kids for xmas. I would like to help but I have problems of my own. Her parents are not around to help her out. I just see no other option than to do whatever else I can for her kids.

I’d like to nominate my daughter and her husband. Early this year, my son-in-law was injured at work. He was denied — and is appealing — workers comp. Because he was unable to work, he was ineligible for unemployment. They have two daughters, one is 4 and the other just turned 1. They bought an old house last year and began necessary upgrades, which they can’t complete because they have almost no income. She has a small retail store, that has been hard hit with the economy. They are both responsbile, hard-working people who are having a really tough time right now. They’ve always given back to the community with fundraisers and she donates store items to charity raffles, and now they need some help. I can’t help a lot, because I recently lost my job. I want to see their children, my grandchildren, have a decent Christmas. Thanks for considering them.

Oh my goodness, I didn’t know about your site until this evening ! My thinking is that it is too late, but I must share my story with you any way.
The family that I need to find help for is a family of 8. The past 18 months they have been hit with one battle after another. Last July the dad was very ill and at one point they thought that he had Cancer. By the Wonderful Grace of God He didn’t. It did cost him his job due to his not being able to do the line of work that he was in. 2 months later they found out that they were going to have a baby which is the 6th Child. The second month the mother started bleeding and found that she had a blood clot that was above the fetal sac. For 4 months she was on bed rest and the dad even though he wansn’t well himself at the time had to become all that he could be taking care of thee house and the children. He was was only able to take on a job close to home which wasn’t near the paying job that he once had. Eventually they were in deep financial trouble. Nov 3rd 2008 the baby was born. Within 3 hours of birth the baby was placed on oxygen and couldn’t breathe on her own. For 11 days she was in the hospital where she was born, the parents there night and day to find that their little girl had to be shipped to Childrens Hospital. The Doctors where she was born couldn’t figure out her diagnosis.
Within 2 days at Childrens, they had the diagnosis and said that it was a rare lung disease. The baby had to have surgery wich she had 3 days ago. They had to do a lobectomy. Removing the middle of her right lung. She is still in the hospital, infact I just did get home. It just dawned on me that they will have no Christmas what so ever for the parents have been there 19 days with no income what so ever. They have 5 boys, ages 11,8,4,3,2 and one little girl 19 days old. It is a situation of his hers and ours. I know this family is in Great need. Thank You !

My family really needs help and i am a veteran suffering from multiple illnesses, gulf war illness, post traumatic stress, fibromyalgia, anklosing spondylitis and fighting for VA or social security benefits. My husband just got his GED so he can get a better job currently he works in the manager training program at macdonalds for $6.55 hour. We are on the VIEW program my husband completes to get a gas card of $100 dollars to get to work each month. He makes 900.00 a month our rent is 800.00. We dont have a car payment either our car is a 97 jeep with almost 200,000 miles on it.Until something comes through from the VA or social security we are in a real bad situation. We ahve 3 children 9 year old boy dakota who despite all the rucus is adhd and dyslexia making a’s and b’s. A daughter andreana who is 8 and has adhd and other mental health issues and a son 1 year old Evin. We are trying to make things better. We have sold almost everything to catch up bills and unfortunatley there is not much assistance where we live in the sticks. We pay rent and light bill and then are broke. All i am asking is just something for them to open on christmas. After Iraq the miltary told me it was all in my head and just forgot about me. Now four years later i am seeing many doctors and taking 7 medications just to get out of bed everyday. I wish i could work but i just can’t right now. Any help i could get i would pay it forward to someone else by donating time if my body will let me to help the local food giveaway or if we get on our feet come tax time make a donation to an organization.I can provide social workers name and doctor name to verify the information. I know there are many families alot worse of then we. But any consideration would be appreciated for a forgotten iraq veteran. i would even take some gently used clothes for the kids and a few packs of size 4 diapers. we are not proud people we help my neighbors. My neighbors are a couple down on their luck. We have limited food stamps but i usually fix enough food to take the neighbors a meal at dinner time or share some of the food bank food with them. We get help so we try to help someone else with what we do have. May you all have a very bless christmas.Thank you for listening.

I have a friend that I would like to nominate for this amazing program. I worked with Sharon for the last 2 1/2 years at a retail store. During that time she became my best friend and I got to know her daughter Ariel, age 6, very well. Ariel’s father passed away when she was 4 yrs old and since then she and her mom have had to move in with Sharon’s mother. Ariel is in the 1st grade and doing wonderfully at school. I love hearing her sweet voice when she calls everyday to tell her mom that she’s home and what she did at school that day. Sharon is a great mom and works hard to provide what she can to her daughter but working in retail isn’t much pay and offers her little time to spend with Ariel on weekends and holidays.
I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to find different giveaways on the web for Sharon (who doesn’t have a computer) to give to Ariel on Christmas Day. I would love to see Sharon and Ariel have a blessed Christmas that they will never forget.
Thank you for providing this great gift to all. You are truly special people to do this.
Merry Christmas.

After reading through the above posts, I am realizing that times are really tough right now. How exciting for the five families chosen, we could all use a soft spot to land this Christmas season.
I would like to nominate my sister. She was the best, crunchie momma I have ever known. Recently she left a relationship tha wasn’t healthy. Now needing to work two jobs, life has become hard, and time with her two girls short. She is in an unfamilar spot and life seems almost cruel. We all help out in making life stable for the girls, but she & they both know it’s no substitute for the time Mommy used to spend. I just think it would be so nice if she didn’t have to worry so much at Christmas time – a surprise package would lighten her load.
Good luck & Merry Christmas to everyone.

My husband had a total hip replacement done and the Dr. wants him on permanent disabilty but he (my husband) wont do it ! He is a good father that just wants his children happy ! He is afraid if goes on disaiblity we wont be able to provide for our kids ! Yes we do have a roof over our heads ,elect ,water ,ect .Children dont understand that and when they get up christmas morning and there is nothing under the tree they think it was them !
We have no family to turn to too for help as ALL the grandparents have passed on ,on both sides of the family. With there last Grandfather passing away only 2 weeks ago . (that makes it hard enough).
This is the first time we have ever had to ask for any help ! So Please take us into consideration and help provide a memoriable christmas for our kids ! Thank you ….

I’d like to nominate a friend of mine. Her husband’s position was recently and rather suddenly eliminated. She is a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom so they are without income. They have 5 children, 3 girls 16, 14 and 8, and two boys 12 and 10. Her husband has been looking for a job for several weeks now, but so far nothing. She is working part time and their oldest daughter has also gone to work to help make ends meet. We are helping them out for Thanksgiving, but they have no money for Christmas presents for the children. They also have two children who have birthdays during the holidays, making things doubly hard. Thank you for your consideration!

Please consider my sister-in-law for this wonderful program, and thank you for bringing happiness to some deserving families this year.
My sister-in-law moved her two younger children out of town with her in order to escape a physically abusive marriage. She has been living in an apartment for the last few months and working at a good job, but health issues caused her to leave that position. She is job-hunting, but Christmas can’t compete with the possibility of homelessness by January. Her oldest daughter is living with her father. Yesterday I learned that the father has just been laid off…so much for Christmas there…and their home will soon go into foreclosure if they cannot sell it quickly – unlikely in the current market. There are three girls in this family, ages 15, 7 and 4.

I have a family I would like to nominate. Here is the story of little Kaden Bennington. Little Kaden was born into this world so sadly. His mother has 4 other children and did not want this one. She tried to miscarry him, but he proved to be a fighter (he was born perfectly healthy no thanks to his mom). Kaden’s father did not care, all he could think about was his next fix. When Kaden was just 2 years old his mother (egg donor) ran off with her other children and left him with his drug addict father (sperm donor). Kaden’s paternal grandparents stepped in and to care for Kaden. Thru the mercies of God and the Scioto County courts Kaden was adopted by his grandparents Ernie and Kathy Bennington) and all should have been well. His new dad was working and his new mom loving. Then the rug was yanked out from under them. Kaden’s new dad was diagnosed with end stage renal cancer that had mastisized into tumors. Ernie has a tumor that runs down his sternum to his tail bone. There is nothing that can be done except try to control his pain. The family is having so many financial problems, for Ernie was the only source of income they had. They are now waiting on SS to make a decision. They have lost their home and had to move in with Kadne’s great aunt. Ernie is not expected to live until Christmas. I do not forsee any christmas gifts for Little Kaden. My heart breaks for this little boy. You see Ernie is my uncle (my mom’s brother) so I know first hand of this sorrow. They are now living with my mother who has a fixed income herself. It takes all we can to help them pay for the day to day expenses let alone anthing else. If Ernie does pass away before his SSA get approved I am not sure what they are gonna do. As well being fasted with this situation they are having to try to make arrangements for the funeral when the time comes. That is not cheap. I just do not see any happy holiday out come for this little boy without your help. He has been thru so much already. I truly hope he get s some type of happiness soon. If you should decide to follow up on this feel free to contact me for my phone number to discuss this further. I can then provide you with the phone number to reach this family. Thank you so much.

I would like to nominate my cousins family, her husband works in a trailor plant and his hours have been cut way back because of the economy. The company is producing few trailors because of slow sales. He carries their health insurance so he is trying to stay there and work when they will let him. She is working at a gas station and at a construction site cleaning up after the construction crews to try to make ends meet for them and their 3 children. Their sons are ages 10 and 11 and their daughter is 8. They are getting bills paid but I know will struggle to buy presents at Christmas for the kids. They are very proud and would not ask for help so I would like to do so for them. I pray that God will bless your work here. This will be the miracle that some of theses families are praying for. Thanks again!

When she isn’t working, she does not get paid. Her husband is also unemployed. She has an 8 year old son and it would mean everything to her if he had some presents under the tree. Thanks for considering this family.

Hi, I’d like to nominate my sweet son. He is 3 1/2. I am a single parent and a college student. My son has had a pretty tough year, getting diagnosed with adhd, odd, and finding out he has a severe hearing loss. I would just really like my son to have a nice christmas he deserves. I don’t have alot of money,($83 every two weeks) but i’d like a little help just so he can get something fun for christmas. Thank you for your consideration. I hope it wasn’t too selfish to nominate my son.

I have twin boys turning 4 December 22 so I am already behind on gifts…since their birthdays fall so close to Christmas I have two parties to plan!!! I have actively been seeking work with no luck…my husband does what he can but since his Christmas bonus has been taken away we will not be able to afford things this year. I have tried to teach my kids the honor and the kindness it takes to give away their things to make people happy. This year is a very important year, its the first year my grandfather will not be with us and I know they miss him dearly. I want them to know that not only does Santa exist but the love and care that they get is genuine. Christmas should not be about receiving but giving and if I had anything to give I would. But this year I ask for my children…I dont want them to suffer because we cant afford the things to see their faces light up. Please consider us for the gracious prize and when I get back on my feet I will be sure to pass this kindness on!

I’m a subscriber, but my blog is currently on hiatus. I think this is a TERRIFIC idea, as this is a harder year than previously, even with gas prices dropping, and many families are going to have a hard time putting anything under the tree at all.

What a fantastic program! I love that you’re giving back to families in need…and kudos to all of the sponsors for jumping in to support the cause!
I blogged about this contest today as part of my Tuesday Tours column: http://metropolitanmama.net/2008/11/tuesday-tours-whats-happening-on-the-web-42/.

I would like to nominate the Youth Pastor at my church. He lost his job over a month ago (his full-time job, the pastoring job doesn’t really pay much). He has worked a week or two at temp jobs but is having a hard time. He has a wife, a 3 year old boy and a 1 year old daughter. They are already behind on their rent. I know they won’t have any spare cash for Christmas this year.

I would like to nominate my aunt. She’s a single parent living in housing. She has financial problems so getting gifts for her chilren is going to be a challenge she will be very grateful for this

I don’t know that I can nominate my very own family but I’m going to in the vent you will allow this.
My husband has cancer, renal failure, had dialysis and Musuclar Dystrophy which adds to the complex issue. He is in Radiation and Chemotherapy and travels every day to SLC every day. (that is about 1 hr 15 min away from our home. Needless to say he can no longer work and we are hopeful for his recovery. His Cancer is Stage 4 Prostate Cancer that is spread out of the prostate.
We have 2 girls still at home out of 13 children. They are such generous, loving young women that I KNOW if they get up on Christmas and there is near nothing under the tree, they will handle it. However, as a mom, it will be hard for me.
17 & 15 are their ages and both girls. They are so easy to please that they will appreciate ANYTHING that is wrapped up with their name.
I will post the badge (I must confess that this is sometimes not an easy task for me).

We have a homeless family that has 2 children. One 16 year old teenage son and a 7 year old son.
They’re part of that group – middle income homeless. Makes too much money to qualify for social services but has the need.

Thanks so much. I would like to nominate a family with 3 children. Both parents are out of work, though he does odd jobs in exchange for wood to burn this winter. The children are beautiful (aren’t they all) and have never had a lot, but this Christmas will be more bleak than ever.Last Christmas was spent with their son Detric age 8 in a hospital, so the family was strewn all over the place. They were hoping for a better year this year. They have a daughter Kiyalynn- 12 who is ADH and another daughter JadaMae who is 7, who is a bubbly ball of laughter! These kids have never had electronic toys that a lot of kids have, but are so thrilled with a new book or new gloves that it actually hurts to see. Almost everything they ever had was hand me downs and thift shop buys. But they are so happy with those that it breaks my heart. If there is any help for them it would be more than appreciated. I recently asked them what they wanted for Christmas…Kiya said boots and a diary, Detric wants a Spiderman hat and action figure and Jada wants books and sneakers. It doesn’t seem like a lot but when you are worried if they can stay warm and fed it sounds like a mountain to high to climb! God Bless you.

It’s very important to my family to participate in this project, due to the fact that we’ve been in these families situation.
I’m proud to say we survived, grew stronger and more humble from our circumstances.
It’s our mission, in our lives, to assist needy families and charities in anyway that we can.
I’ve added your button to our blog. And I will speak with my family regarding families, that we know of that we could nominate.
Thank you ladies for all the great contest but I must say this project has warmed my heart deeply.

I am nominating my nephews and my brother-in-law for “Under the Tree”. My sister passed away this last April at the age of 31, leaving a husband, 5 year old, and 6 year old without a mother. I want to ensure that these boys do not miss out on the magic of Christmas any more than they have already missed out on having a mother to share their experiences with. RJ just turned 7 and Mike just turned 6. Their father, Rick, continues to work hard being the best father for these 2 boys. Do not let this Christmas be a year of pain for them. Let it be filled with memories and surprises so they can all continue to grieve and heal.

i am a single mom of 4 children ages 9 a girl,8 aboy,6 aboy, and 5,aboy 2 of my children are in therapy twice a week for damaged that is caused by a divorce three years ago and the damage their father is still doing to them.My 8 year old has adhd and is currently taking meds.My other boy age 6 just been diagnosed with adhd as well.I work a seasonal job and only make around 18,000 a year and sometimes have to borrow or use resources for food and basic nessesities.I would rather do without for my children always come first, and with all that they have been through christmas is the one way i can show my children how much they are appreciated. This christmas however i fear i will be laid off right before christmas and hope to have at least one gift under our tree for them, that is if i can get a tree to even put up.Please consider us when making a decision i know my children will be more then gratefull for the help.

I dont know if it is allowed but my family could use the help with Christmas. I have 4 chilren and I stay home with them so we do not have to pay for daycare since that would be outragous…my hubby just got a major pay cut (instead of being laid off) and they decreased his hours…I would appreciate any help big or small my children could get…

There is a mom who is single and her 3 year old son’s father not only doesn’t pay child support, he wants nothing to do with his young son.
She recently put out a plea for any ideas on how to make Christmas special for her son without money on a community I belong to. It would be nice to be able to give them a treat this year.

I would love to participate in giving and also to nominate a family. I have a sibling living in Plano, Texas who continually updates me on a family he knows whose daughter is Two and has brain cancer. The other night she was vomitting profusely and the family brought her to Dallas Childrens’ Hospital. The family was told that Sadie had suffered two strokes and that she was not going to make it through. Well, Little 2-year old Sadie is a fighter and wants to live. From ICU instead of passing from the strokes and brain cancer, she began kicking and fighting for her life. She is still alive and battling brain cancer and the strokes. This family has been going in and out of the hospital with Sadie for a full year now. I’m sure they are not only physically and emotionally exhausted, but also going through some financial hardships due to costly medical expenses. Even though I only met Little Sadie once, my heart bleeds for this little girl and her family. I would love to nominate them and watch Christmas come alive for them filled with a day of excitement and gratitude and hope. If you cannot choose Sadie and her family, I ask you all to keep Sadie in your prayers and prayer that they have the courage and fortitude to overcome this terrible time in their life. Thank you for what you are about to do. Sincerely, Rita @ TesoroFino.blogspot.com

I have added a button in my sidebar as well as written a post that is to go live after 5 PM today. I’m having a hard time keep enough time between blog posts for reviews and normal stuff and this is way to important for it to get lost in the shuffle. So, I post dated it for this afternoon so it will stay up all night and part of tomorrow. And, of course, like I said, the button is in my sidebar.
I have numerous blogs (10 to be exact) and I’m going to go ahead and put the button in the sidebar of those as well even if I don’t put a full post.
This is great and my post explains why I’m so fond of these kinds of acts at Christmas.
Thanks to you!

I’d like to nominate my sister and her 5 year old daughter. My sister is a newly single Mom and is having some financial troubles. If she and her daughter were selected, it would mean the world to her.

It was March and my neighbor was pregnant with her fourth child. She was about a month away from delivery and one day she was taking a shower and passed out. She was taken to the hospital and due to some complications her and her baby died that day. She left a husband and three children, a 9 year old girl, a 8 year old girl and a 3 year old boy. Husband is self-employed and had no insurance and his wife pretty much ran the books of the business. He was left to figure out the books, clean, cook and raise three children by himself. I still get tears in my eyes thinking about the situation and how tragic and unexpected her death was. I know he would appreciate any type of help this Christmas.

How wonderful to care for others in a time of need. One day we could find ourself in the same position. My family learned that last year, with a new baby, my husband job closed. It got scary & sad. $10.00 was all we had for food one week after I bought my Baby’s Needed items. Happy to report with a little help from family & he found another job & it was closer to home & things are better. You just don’t ever really know how it feels or what it means. I’ve added yall to my site & keep up the good work.

I added a button to my page. I think this is such a great cause. My mom and i use to pick a name of the giving tree each year and it was an experiance i will never forget. Nothing say Christmas more than giving to those who need.
