Put Your Hands Up for Real Food

In the quest for real food, there’s nothing as satisfying as pulling from the soil a vegetable you planted with your own hands, rinsing it off without worrying about scrubbing off pesticides and then taking a big, crunchy bite.

Planting Seeds In Pot

Our fast-paced, stressed-out lives tend to rely on lots of processed foods. And I’m the first to admit I often opt for convenience and eat food that comes out of a container rather than the ground.

So I appreciate when companies make an effort to offer more organic and healthier options.

And I really love when they go further and help promote education and awareness about healthy eating and the importance of “real food”.

Kashi is doing exactly that.

Real food comes from real ingredients, like our unique seven whole grain blend, and nutritional, on-trend, powerhouses like organic quinoa and chia seeds, which are responsibly sourced.

kashi products

When I’m shopping, I’m constantly on the look out for the Non-GMO Project Verified seals. So I’m thrilled to hear that Kashi is working hard to get more of their products Non-GMO Project Verified.

The Kashi approach to food is about progressive nutrition – an important part of which includes being mindful of sustainable and ethical farming practices. By the end of 2015, half of all Kashi products will be Non-GMO Project Verified, a number you can count on seeing grow. Consumers can easily spot participating Kashi cereal products on grocery store shelves by looking for the Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified seals on the box. We’re proud to also now include Kashi* GOLEAN* in this line up.

I’ve been eating Kashi products for years and I loved learning more about the company during a Mom Blogger Event back in 2009.

I was sincerely impressed by what I learned then in 2009 and to see what the brand is continuing to do to further their organic and Non-GMO offerings.

My mornings this week have been made sweeter with a bowl of Kashi* Organic Promise* Quinoa Multigrain Flakes & Raisins Cereal and I’ve loved snacking on the Kashi* Seven Grain with Quinoa Bars.

This cereal and the bars are tasty enough that even your picky eating kids should like them. Just don’t tell them how healthy they are. 😉

Talking about kids… Have you seen the adorable kids in this video?

Trust me, you want to watch this video — soooooo cute! (But a little disturbing too…)

All Kids Deserve To Get Closer To Real Food

Maybe your child would score higher on a “name that vegetable” test, but the sad fact is…

less than half of all Canadians (46 per cent) have ever gotten their hands dirty to grow, care for or harvest fresh fruits or vegetables. Even more surprising, one third of Canadians will not visit a farmer’s market or community garden this year.

That’s why Kashi is partnering with Evergreen for their Plant it Forward initiative. Over the past two years, they’ve “contributed over $100,000 to Evergreen’s Seeding Healthy Communities program to help build and support urban gardens across Canada so deserving communities can get closer to real food.”

Kashi Seeds

By the end of 2015, the Kashi Plant it Forward initiative is expected to have planted or seeded 13,000 edible plants, harvested 7,000 pounds of food and trained 1,750 Canadians in urban agriculture techniques.

Over 10,000 people will be engaged with urban gardens and 100 volunteers, including 12 volunteer leaders, will have been enlisted.

My Kids Love Planting Seeds

My girls and I planted the seeds that Kashi Canada sent us as part of this Plant It Forward initiative.

It’s such fun for them to watch their seeds sprout and then become real food they can eat. And it’s an important lesson.
