Wordless Wednesday — 2 am…

Janice and Olivia, Christmas Eve - by Jenn Best
Janice and Olivia, Christmas Eve - by Jenn Best

I am usually behind the camera.

And so, like many of you I bet, I am not in many photos! I wish that my kids would have more photos of me with them, loving every second of their beautiful lives. But, instead I worry they will wonder where I was! Thousands of photos without a mom in sight — because I am behind the lens.

So, when someone who knows their way around a camera is nearby, (and I have some makeup on!) I ask them to shoot a few photos of me with my kids — to show them that I was indeed right there all along.

At 2am, during the last moments of my in-laws Christmas Eve party, my friend and fabulous BC wedding photographer, Jenn Best, shot this photo of me with Olivia . The lighting and the couch in the room were terrible, but Jenn was a trooper and shot anyway. THANKS so much Jenn — it is one of my favorite photos of this Christmas!

Mom Bloggers (and Dad Bloggers too!) post a photo on your site, link up and find others… Wordless Wednesday is tons of fun. (And I know it says “wordless” but I just can’t bear to not write anything! If I had created it, I probably would have named it something different! LOL)

Here is a fun thumbnail linky…

But if you prefer the old style, you can use this linky:

Thanks to Uisce for creating Wordless Wednesday.

There are so many reasons I love this photo – your pose, your daughter’s sleepy expression, etc. You look so relaxed, so perfectly Janice. 🙂

That is such a beautiful photo of a mother’s love for her daughter.
I really think you need to have it in a frame on your desk (at least).
I know how it is to be the one behind the camera all the time.
My friend Krystyn of Really, Are You Serious? does a great meme on Mondays called Mommy and Me Monday that makes you take a photo of you with your children. You really might like it: http://www.reallyareyouserious.com/2011/01/mommy-and-me-monday-the-46th-edition-do-the-potty-dance.html

  6. That is an adorable picture! I agree, I am rarely actually in photos anymore so the ones that are taken are precious.

  8. That’s definitely an adorable picture. I also have few of myself and few with the kids. The ones with them aren’t very attractive ’cause one of my children took them, I used a timer or held my arm out. LOL. Happy WW.

Oh such a sweet capture! I too have months go by, major events included, tons of photos taken and no Mom in sight!!
    Thanks for the linky:)

    LOVE this photo!

  11. I know what you mean about always being behind the camera. I have very few pictures of me with the girls. And most of the pictures I do have of me with the girls are now being taken by one of the girls.
Thought I would post a Wordless Wednesday post for the first time ever. Guess mine isn’t the only one of a sleeping baby. They are so sweet when they are sleeping.
    Love your picture.

Good reminder and a great picture!

  13. I love this photo Janice! I am always behind the camera too, and love it when someone (other than my terrible-photographer mom or dad) captures pictures like that one of you. My mom hated pics of her when I was a kid so all my photos are of just me in my childhood…..I really didn’t like it later on. I thought she was beautiful and wanted pictures of me with her. Too bad she didn’t agree…..

I am going to make an effort to have more pictures with me in it!

I love that photo of you! I did the same thing on a walk with my son I had my sister in law stop and take some photo’s of us together.

  17. Aleksandra says:

Awesome picture. I can see why it would be a favorite. Happy New Year!

  18. Such a precious moment captured!

  19. I love that picture.

I hate when I return from a vacation, get my photos printed and realize I’m not in one picture. I (we all!) need to make a conscious effort to hand off the camera once in a while!

Beautiful picture of you with your baby. Your friend was very sweet to “work” in the conditions that were not ideal for her so you would have some memories to share with your babies.

  27. Very special and sweet. IKWYM, by being behind the lens.

  30. What a great photo of you and your son. I try to sneak in photos with my son all the time. I use the auto timer, web-cams and asking complete strangers to take our photos 🙂

  31. I figured when you said 2am that you were up with a sick kid…..but you looked too happy for that!

  32. yes! i always find that i’m the one behind the camera too. it is a definite treat to have someone else take some good photos with mom *in* the pictures :). you look great, and i love this shot.

  33. I think so many of us are guilty of limited photos with the kids. It’s too easy to get caught up behind the camera taking the photos. This is a wonderful moment that your photographer friend captured.

  34. Spectrummy Mummy says:

Just like you, I’m always on the wrong side of the camera- I’m sure they’ll think of me as an absentee parent when they go through the photos later!

  35. Beautiful picture. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  36. What a lovely photo! Absolutely precious!

  37. Susie's Homemade says:

    That is a great shot!!

  38. So sweet! I made it o 10:30 lol 🙂 Happy New Year!

  39. That is such a precious picture of the two of you – one to be treasured for sure. They grow up way too fast. I can remember when my daughter was that little…

I too am in far too few pictures with my daughter and hubby. I didn’t realize how few until I started looking back over my pictures from this past year.

  40. Stephanie says:

Aw, it is a great pic!

  41. A Maui Blog says:

I am also the same way – less photos with my kids because I am the one taking the photos.

This is a great photo of you and Olivia – despite the poor lighting, the photo came out very nice! Beautiful peeps in the pics 🙂

  50. JamericanSpice says:

This is a beautiful photo. It captures so much!

I miss being in photos with my children too. I should start using the timer more

  51. Jacqueline says:

I think that speaks for most of us! I know I’m usually behind the camera too and have to remind others to give me a break and take one of me too. Such a sweet and tender pic of you and your little girl! 🙂

  52. Oh, this pictures is amazing!

  53. Your friend captured such an intimate, gentle Mom Moment of you two. Beautiful.

  54. Mrs. Marine says:

Aww, what a sweet photo! I have the same problem, I’m rarely in pictures with my kids…

  55. I know exactly what you mean Janice! One day I’m sure my kids will come across the two photos I have with me and them – and they’ll ask…”WHO is this?”
    It’s a great shot – cherish it!!
You both look so at peace…
    🙂

    Happy new Year to you!

  56. Dominique says:

    Great shot,
I too should take more pictures with my kids.

  57. I think most of us are behind the camera. I truly dislike my photo being taken, but I try to be a good sport occasionally. That photo turned out great and how nice to have a great photographer around! Happy New Year!

    1. Yes – we moms are always behind the scenes, eh? I wish Jenn were around more often – I rarely see her with the busyness of life!

  58. Tarasview says:

I love this picture of you two 🙂

  59. Carrie with Children says:

Beautiful picture! I need to get better at having pictures taken of me with my girls. I’m also always the one behind the camera. 🙂

  60. I have the SAME problem. I’m always taking the photos and rarely in them. Beautiful shot!

  61. Man, I wish I could sleep that soundly in the middle of chaos 🙂

  62. The amount of pictures with me in them are so few too! I am happy to sneak an awkward arm extended self snapper shot once in a while. LOL That really is a great picture of you – especially at 2am! LOL

    1. Whenever I do the self snapper shot I look horrific! LOL

  63. Janice,
That is one of those special shots that remind you of the moments you want to hold onto forever… this is just beautiful.
    Hugs to you,
    Genny

  64. I need to hand over my camera more often, too. Love your picture today!

  65. So, so sweet! I also love this small reminder to moms to GET IN THE PICTURE! 🙂 You’re right – it will be so important to our kids later on.

    1. You are so right Stacey — I need to not worry about having makeup on too. I need to just make sure I don’t miss the moments!

  66. It’s a great photo. How great to have a professional photog as a good friend.
