Holiday gift giving and books go together like peanut butter and jelly, in my opinion, and when a book comes along that is perfect to be given to an entire family, it simply needs to be shared. The Classic Treasury of Childhood Wonders by Susan H. Magsamen is the book, and I hope it finds its way to many families this holiday season.
I love that this is more than just a book to be read with your children, as it includes an assortment of poems, stories, a variety of artwork, even selections from Shakespeare to be shared, in addition to its encouragement for families to extend the reading experiences with related activities.
Divided into five themed sections- Outdoor Exploring; Dream It, Make It; Magic and Make-Believe; Yummy in My Tummy; and Bathtime, Bedtime, Dreamtime- there’s something to interest everyone. There’s even a section for parents that explains how the selections included relate to a skill-based learning program focusing on essential skills for children to develop.
There’s clearly a lot here, and families can opt to use the resources and activities at whatever level with which they’re comfortable. So far, my youngest children and I have been sharing some poems and fingerplays and admiring some of the beautiful pieces of art in these pages. My four year old daughter hopes to do a few of the crafts suggested, which will be perfect for the upcoming cold wintry days. All in all, I believe this book will be consulted again and again, making it a true family treasure.

This is a great book, in compilation form, because, classics of childhood books meant so very much to me as a I was growing up and I’m sure will mean quite a bit to succeeding generations also!

I love to read to my kids we dont have a very big selection of books and the one we do have we’ve read them so many times my kids bout have them memmorized to be able to put a good quality book like this under the tree for my two children and i to enjoy would be very nice.
