Tackle It Tuesday – Week 12

Tackle it Tuesday

Project to Tackle: Top of the Bookshelf

It is working!

I was showing Crystal, one of my best friends and scrapbooking buddy, (and one of the only people I let see my house when it was in total chaos,) around my blog tonight and she was stunned at how much cleaner my house was.

Somehow I had failed to mention Tackle It Tuesday to her and during these busy last couple months, she hasn’t been over to see my new and improved “tackled” house.

(Don’t worry there is still a ton to do. So much in fact I have weeks of projects before me. For instance, my basement storage room has its contents spilled all over the place as I started to tackle the disaster, then stopped and have proceeded to procrastinate on all summer. Must tackle soon!!!)

Wow – it feels good!

Now onto todays tackle. Well, it is lacking in scale, but I was oh so tired tonight. It needed to be a tiny tackle or else I just wouldn’t make it.

So I tackled the top of a bookshelf that is in our family room. This mess has been driving me nuts, but since I am the queen of procrastination, I have refused to deal with it for years – literally. The stuff up there dated back for two and three years! And the dust – well mites have bred long ancestral lines up there. It was not pretty.

Oddly enough, I have tackled the bookshelf a number of times and even recently. But I left the top alone. I am telling you I do take procrastination to a higher plane.

But tonight the dust mites met their destruction and the recycling bin got jammed with old catalogues and community guides.

That looks great. I have to get my own rear in gear and join in on Tackle it Tuesday. I will after my daughter leaves.

  2. Looks AWESOME!
i plan to be back on the wagon next week
Starting school threw everything off kilter for this week AGAIN!

  3. I’m a little late, but I’m here! Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. “I am telling you I do take procrastination to a higher plane.”

Oh, my word. I think this is the funniest housekeeping post I’ve ever read. Ever. Dust mites breeding long ancestral lines? Oh, good heavens, girl!

Yeah, the top of the book case looks great and blah, blah, blah. But the post??? Well done!

My Tacklet It Tuesday is taking me several weeks to complete. Maybe I should have started smaller? Like with a simple dust mite safari or something?

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll bookmark you and come by to visit. And I will definitely have to get myself involved in some Tackle it Tuesday projects!! The tops of my bookcases could use some organizing– they’re probably 6.5 or 7 feet tall so I can’t see everything up there hiding behind the lip, but I know that’s where I “hide” things from the kids… or at least get them out of reach! I think there’s even an old computer keyboard up there… Why? I’m clueless!

i am totally cracking up at the before pic where below is perfect order, and above, well, not. ha! too funny.

i accidentally participated! woo hoo! this morning i organized ethan-6yr’s closet. i hung up all his uniforms, and installed one of those days of the week organizers where you stick an outfit in each slot and he’s good to go. i’m so proud, i’ll have to DELIBERATELY participate next week!

  7. The bookshelf looks great! I have so many “Tackle It Tuesday” projects in mind, but haven’t gotten around to any of them. And I also have no digital camera. I guess I could borrow my moms……

  8. Org Junkie says:

Fantastic! So love it, job well done. Can’t wait to get around and see what everyone else has done. Your Tackle it Tuesday is really helping a lot of people get things done each week. Laura

  9. Thank you for doing this! You have convinced me to tackle two huge projects – my daughter’s toys two weeks ago and my pantry this week. Thank you!

I’ve seen this all over the place and have finally found where it is through the fun baby photography game you did. I’ve got my first one posted. 😀

  11. Wow, cleaning up the top of that bookshelf was probably a good safety measure! I’d be afraid all that stuff would just decide to fall on my head one day, LOL! Good job!

  12. Looks great! I don’t have any magazine type stuff on the top of mine! That’s where hubby hides all the extra remotes after programming them into one remote. A lip all the way around hides it. But oh, the other world of dust bunnies that exists up there! Scary!

  13. Tammy and Parker says:

I was thinking about Tackle It Tuesday last night and then totally forgot what site did this. I’ll remember for next Tuesday. I was hoping that if I bit off a little bit each week then it would help keep me on a cleaning schedule while still attending to Parker’s schedule.

It’s amazing how magazines just seem to gather every where. I’ve got quite a collection myself that I need to go through. Your bookcase looks great! Want to help me with mine?

  15. The more I search the internet, the more I realize how many of these theme days there are. I think we’re going to need a longer week!:)

  16. Okay – I really need to get motivated around here! Maybe after the kids are back in school….

    Great work!

  17. Looks great! I seriously need to start doing this, might actually make my house spotless!

  18. Chaotic Mom says:

I need to write this one down so I remember to participate next week.

YESTERDAY the boys and I completely tackled the basement, their toys and books. It was GREAT working together! I’m shocked at how much we’ve gotten rid of, too.

TODAY we’re tackling their rooms, the whole upstairs, really. I’ve been taking breaks checking out blogs online, they’ve been taking some well-earned TV breaks. Good rewards, but “back to work time” comes quickly! 😉

  19. Great job. I love getting things done.

BTW- I didn’t realize I was supposed to post my link AFTER I completed my project. This morning I posted the Before pictures and anyway, I just now completed 1 of my projects anf posted it!

  20. Wow you did a great job, doesn’t it feel great when it’s all done? 🙂

  21. Ariane from NeatLiving.Net says:

Thanks for the inspiration! Love your idea…and I’m going to try to post every Tuesday! This week I did under my kitchen sink.

All the best, Ariane : )

  22. Whoot – Janice. I am happy for you that your dusty visitors hit the road . Great job

You know – you are not the only one who likes to wait until dawn to get things done. I really have to talk myself into doing projects like that, all.the.time…
    Have a great day 😛

  23. WOW, that’s awesome! 🙂 Though I cant beleive you had stuff up there 2-3 years old…I thought I was the only one who kept junk stuff for that long! 😀

  24. That looks great! I just love the feel a clean space like that gives me! WTG!

  25. Yikes! I signed up on the wrong list. I was looking for the baby picture list. Sorry!
