‘Tis the season for cooking, cleaning, decorating, hosting…
The holidays are busy for almost everyone – and especially for Moms!

So, Scott Common Sense wants to help with their fun, informative site, www.scottcommonsense.com. The site includes great tips on surviving the holidays and so much more. I love this tip I just picked up at their site. I am so going to try it!
“Peel Potatoes with SCOTT Towels
Boil potatoes with the skin on. When done, drain. Fold a SCOTT Towel in half and pick up a hot potato. Gently rub the potato back and forth and the skin comes right off. Shake the potato skin off and reuse the towel. It saves time and clean up. When finished, just discard the towel or, better yet, go green and place the towel and the peelings into a compost pile for next spring’s gardening.” –tip from Scott Common Sense Community
And to make sure we really celebrate making life a bit easier this holiday season, Scott Common Sense is giving one lucky reader a $100 Visa Gift Card to put towards your holiday shopping, along with a year’s supply of Scott Bath and Towel products to help you through holiday spills!

I could not resist any article containing the words “Stress Less” at this time of year. I just spent a fortune on a turkey and can’t imagine how I am going to squeeze the rest of the holiday out of my budget.
So, the tip:
Keep your focus on people, not things.
In other words, family togetherness, not the gifts you’re buying for everyone, is what really matters. Paring down your gift exchanges might meet with relief, not disappointment, from the adult recipients.
Really, really hit home for me!
Oh boy, what a giveaway! THANKS!
I like this tip:
Before cleaning bathroom tiles, run the shower on hot for five minutes to steam the dirt loose. For stubborn stains, apply a paste of scouring powder and water and let sit for five minutes. Scrub with a nylon scrub pad, rinse and wipe dry. Sparkling clean!
Great and useful giveaway—thanks! I like the suggestion about using a coffee filter in the bottom of pots when gardening. Since it will still let water through (but not dirt) this makes great sense!

I love the “Coffee filters set to go” tip. I have to have a cup of coffee every morning and having pre-filled filters would be a great time saver!
ooh! I like this one!
Dry Your Hair Quicker
Blow-drying hair can be time consuming and damages hair, especially for those with long hair. After washing your hair, use SCOTT Towels to dab and squeeze excess water out of your hair. Place the ends of your hair between 2 sheets of SCOTT Towels and squeeze, then blot the rest of your head with an additional Towel. Of course, for short hair you can probably use just one Towel. Your hair drying time will be cut in at least half or you can let your hair dry naturally much quicker and with less damage than that caused by the heat of a blow-dryer.
Very helpful in the morning!
I also read your e-mail newsletter.

Okay, this is going to sound totally dorky but I liked the Onions tip. “When you are ready to use onions, cut the ROOT END off first. Most times, no tears!!” I seriously did not know that and rarely cook with onions because after two seconds I can’t even see. I am going to try that!!

Cool, Dry and Great Smelling Feet
Save money by making your own replacement shoe insoles. Remove the insole from both shoes. Put together two sheets of SCOTT Shop Towels on a Roll, fold in half, crease and tape the sheets together. Trace one insole on the top sheet, cut out the shape from all the sheets and tape them together at the top. Sprinkle talcum powder, baby powder or foot powder on each sheet, then tape your newly made insole to the original insole. Repeat for the other foot. Carefully replace the insole in your shoes. My SCOTT insoles last about three wearings, but what a difference they have made for my tender feet. Making insoles is a good rainy day project and is so inexpensive!
Hubby works outside no matter what the weather and his shoes get nasty so this was a cool tip to help stop the funk!!!

I liked this tip:
When my grandchildren come to visit, a glass always gets broken. Don’t panic — those little shards of glass are easy to pick up without a cut or splinter. Sweep up the big pieces, and for the little pieces that you can’t get with the dustpan, use a piece of bread. It works every time. No fuss, no mess!

love the idea of using ornaments to make a quick and simple centerpiece for a table. would love to win.
This is a great tip! To stop my grandaughter (2-1/2 yrs old) from unrollling the entire role of SCOTT Tissue while trying to potty train her, I first flatten the cardboard tube of toilet paper and then put in on the roller in reverse. It is harder for her to reach, and going the wrong way. The crease in the cardboard center prevents the roll from rolling too fast.

If you’re in the bathroom after lunch and you notice that your face is shiny, grab a seat cover and dab the shiny spots. It works like an expensive oil-absorbing sheet: It doesn’t remove all your makeup, but it can reduce the shine as if you’ve applied powder.

Prevent Spills and Messes One of my favorite things I did for myself is line the trunk of my car with a table cloth. It’s pretty to look at, and it makes cleaning the trunk so much easier. When you come home from the garden center and a couple of pots have fallen over and spread dirt, you just roll up the table cloth, shake it out (or wash if necessary) and then put it back – the trunk is clean and neat for the next task.

I had to use this once the kids started school and were exposed to gum from the other kids…
To get gum out of someone’s hair, try putting peanut butter on the hair. Just rub the peanut butter through briskly where the gum is located until gone. To get out the last little bit of the gum, use wet SCOTT towels soaked with dish soap, and rub it through the strands of hair until all the pieces of hair are cleaned from top to bottom. This is a sure cure for kids.

That includes the hinges of your toilet seat, window and patio door tracks and seams of cabinet doors. Use your imagination. After all, you paid for them once and now they can serve a second purpose.
Thank so much!

Make your dough for bread in your bread machine. After it is done mixing, spray a cookie sheet with non-stick spray, place the dough on the pan and cover it with plastic, then freeze. I make lots of loaves of bread, freeze them and remove them from the freezer when we want fresh bread. Just let it thaw, rise and bake.

I’m always struggling to find everyone’s address at Christmas for cards, so this is a great tip for me!

The tube from a SCOTT Towel roll fits well over the vacuum hose. Place it over the hose and pinch the end almost flat. Remove the dryer lint trap and vacuum the lint that you can’t reach from behind the trap. A cleaner lint trap is a safer one!

Not So Fast!To stop my grandaughter (2-1/2 yrs old) from unrollling the entire role of SCOTT Tissue while trying to potty train her, I first flatten the cardboard tube of toilet paper and then put in on the roller in reverse. It is harder for her to reach, and going the wrong way. The crease in the cardboard center prevents the roll from rolling too fast.

Great giveaway. Here is my entry, I visted the Scott website & like this tip:
Everyday Bed Making in a Snap! When you put your clean linens on your bed, take a couple extra minutes to pin together the top of the sheets, blankets and comforter. (Use big safety pins you can find in either the sewing section or craft section, like old diaper pins.) It only takes about 4, spaced apart. In the morning before you leave, it takes just a couple of pulls and toss on the pillows. This works really great with kids and husbands!

my fav tip –
Don’t you hate when cooking oil drips down the bottle after each use, and you’re left with a sticky, greasy residue on the bottle and shelf? You can easily avoid this by placing a folded SCOTT Towel around the bottom and then placing it in a plastic sandwich bag. To stop drips from the top, fold another SCOTT Towel and rubber band it around the cap. You’ll appreciate the oil in your cooking and not everywhere else!!
Thanks for a chance to win!
Boil potatoes with the skin on. When done, drain. Fold a SCOTT Towel in half and pick up a hot potato. Gently rub the potato back and forth and the skin comes right off. Shake the potato skin off and reuse the towel. It saves time and clean up. When finished, just discard the towel or, better yet, go green and place the towel and the peelings into a compost pile for next spring’s gardening.

STRAW NECKLACE
USE A STRAW TO KEEP NECKLACE CHAINS FROM TANGLING. EVEN BENDY STRAWS WORK WELL. JUST CUT A SMALL SLIT IN THE END OF THE STRAW AND FEED THE CHAIN THROUGH THE STRAW.
