I hurt my back.
And not just a little twinge of pain. This is a full on, my-back-seized-and-now-I-can’t-pick-up-my-kids hurt. With a four month old and a two year old who insists on playing “two babies,” I am in a bit of trouble.
So, you can imagine, I am more than a bit excited that an Oreck XL Ultra just arrived at my door. This mighty little vacuum weighs only 9 pounds! To hold a vacuum that weighs so little is the strangest feeling – like when you have a toddler and you pick up a newborn. It is fantastic! (Now if only my kids still weighed 9 pounds!)
Considering my back is so damaged that I wouldn’t be able to use my old vacuum for months, a vacuum that is super light would be good enough for me.
But there are even more reasons I am giddy with vacuuming delight…
This tiny thing is a powerhouse, sucking up filth at the velocity of a cat 2 hurricane AND it has a hypo-allergenic filtration system that eliminates 99.9% of all allergen AND it even lays flat to fit under the bed or furniture. (Considering we are jammed with a home office and our family in a tiny townhouse, the fact that I can hide it so easily is super cool.)
Okay – I want to do a little vacuum dance right now. But, as I said, my back really hurts. So I am doing a happy dance on the inside.
(As moms, there is far too much vacuuming in our lives. Really! It is a never ending chore. So I am just counting my lucky stars that I get to use this fabulous vacuum while vacuuming again and again.)

When my kids won’t pick up their toys I plug in the vacuum and pretend I will suck up their toys. Even if the toys are too big, they start scrambling to get them picked up, it’s funny, and fun too. (No, it doesn’t “upset” them, I’m really a nice mom)…I’ve got a living room floor that would be a real test for this vacuum, heard its really good.

Lemme tell ya, if anybody needs an OreckXL, it’s me!!
My husband of 23yrs works for the water/wastewater maintenance department. He installs and repairs water and *blech face* wastewater lines for the entire city. He inspects new installations, he is creating new water line maps.
He does all these things in mud and dirt and grit. Thankfully, his company provides a uniform service, but those uniforms reside in my house in all their muddy-dirty splendor before they’re taken to be laundered.
That’s not even counting the boots. Thick-mud-caked boots with gravels ‘sprinkled’ throughout.
We don’t have a porch or any sort of “mud room” where he can keep this dirt before he comes into the house. So it’s all like right in my kitchen doorway and the utility doorway immediately to the left. GAH!!!!!
I think I’m the most frustrated woman sometimes. I mean, frustrated about MUD and DIRT!!!
Did I mention I have two sons who ALSO WORK IN THIS KINDA STUFF?!?!?!?!?!?

Oreck is indeed the best around. I worked at a children’s group home for over eight years. The kids went through commercial grade vacuums like there was no tomorrow. Every six months or so we were buying a new vacuum, until Oreck gave the junior boys cottage (ages 5 – 11) to try out. The vacuum was never out of commission, worked like a charm. It was light and easy to use for everyone.
This sold me! I bought one and have had it for 10 years – still runs great – no surprise, since it is not used by 12 munchkins twice to three times daily. Anyway, I want to give one to my sister , a mother of an infant, toddler, and dog – and could really use this mircle machine to clean up. Pick me!

Why I need a vacuum: I had a housekeeper that came once a month to help me tidy up and one day I got a message on my voice mail saying “sorry, I can’t work for you. Goodbye and good luck.” Later, someone else she does work for told me that she quit because my vacuum was terrible. Yikes- she could have at least warned me!
Anyways, she’s right. The vacuum stinks. Now that I am cleaning on my own permanently after my full time job (40 hours a week) and mommy job (I have a demanding one year old), I see the light. Would LOVE this helpful tool! Does it have an attachment to get near the corners of the wall?

Oh I REALLY need this! I spent WEEKS researching vacuums last year (since we don’t have much cash and I wanted to spend it exactly right!) and bought a …….(I won’t say)….but it sucked. And not in a good way. It was a total waste of money. I now prefer to crouch down on my hands and knees and waddle around my house with a dust brush and pan. Much for effective than the machine I own, but killer on my body! We can’t afford to blow another few hundred on a new vacuum. Please, please, please. I hope, I hope, I hope.

I’ve been without a vacuum since mine was STOLEN from my storage compartment in the basement of my apartment building. (And I thought I was messy. Oh boy could I use a new vacuum cleaner!! I have 3 cats, one of which is a persian, and we heat the house mainly with a wood stove. So, I constantly have tons of cat hair and wood dust/splinters everywhere, and it kills my vacuums quick! The one I am using right now is on it’s last duct taped legs…

My mother-in-law came to visit for three HOURS today, passing through my State while on a trip. For the past three DAYS, I have been on my hands and knees picking up little bits and crumbs from the carpet and around the furniture legs. No vacuum = lots of pain.

my vacuum is almost 20 years old its a signature commerial vac and i need a new quality vac before this one dies! i have had it repaired twice already.
With two indoor pets (a black lab and a black kitten) my home has a definite dark haze. I could really use a lite weight vac for daily use.

My back is fine, but I do not want to reinjure it by lugging around the vacuum – so, he still vacuums, which is a great thing…however, once in a while, I would like to do it while he is at work. Boy, I really need this vacuum with all the stairs in my house.
I understand the back deal. I have a 2 herniated discs in my back so vacuuming is always a chore I really dispise especially with my vacuum which was built in 1974 (5 years before I was even born)… not only do I get a nice work out lugging it up & down the stairs, but I have learned to be a vacuum repair person, because I have to fix it every time I use it. Oh and I have to vacuum every room twice because of the lack of suction.
Winning an Orek would be a dream come true.

What a wonderful giveaway. I really want to win this. I too hurt my back. For the past number of years my back tends to ‘go out’ on occasion, but last summer, during our family vacation was the worse. I guess with packing for the family, I over did it and sure enough my back went out. It was so bad, that while on vacation, my husband had to bring me to the er to get shots and medicine. After that trip, I was knocked out the whole week. With 2 young children….this was not the ideal vacation.
