Life with Two…

It was pouring rain and I was sitting in our minivan nursing my two-week old daughter, Olivia, and trying to get my five year old son, Jackson, to stop hanging off the headrests.

I finally got Jackson to stop climbing all over the van and to sit next to me – the three of us squished next to the infant car seat – and I read to him while I finished nursing Olivia.

It had been a long day of nursing, driving my son back and forth to kindergarten and running errands. I hadn’t had a nap and I had a terrible headache.

But sitting there in the crammed chaos of our minivan, I found myself smiling. This is life with two – and I love it!

Here is one of my favorite photos that I have taken so far of my little angels – they may be keeping me up at night and driving me crazy during the day – but I am loving (almost) every second of it!

(Now I have to get off this computer because I just heard my daughter create a lovely (loud) gift for me in her diaper. Oh – the joys of motherhood!)

  10. What a precious picture and a cute story. I remember when my girls were little. Juggling such things can be hairy at times, but in the long run.. oh so worth it.

  11. I got so sick of hearing older moms’ tell me to ‘enjoy these times’ they go so quickly…now I pass that same wisdom onto you…

Enjoy these precious moments…they pass so quickly.

    God Bless, Joanne

  12. I too have a five year gap between kids, a son first, daughter second. The bond there is so tight, I know your kids will have that. I have a picture so similar to yours, I cry every time I see it. As tired as you are, and boy do I remember, it is amazing. Thank you for sharing your picture and thoughts with us!

  13. Life with two is certainly not boring, to say the least. There’s always something going on, or going wrong as I like to say. Glad to see that you can smile about it!!

  16. at least you have a mini van! my two kids are hardly crammed into our tiny, smaller than averaage car….when my baby (3mo) outgrows his infant seat [almost there, 15 pounds…] I don’t know if his next size car seat will fit backwards in our car….

  17. That IS an AMAZING picture!!!!

It’s amazing how much life changes when you go from one child to two, isn’t it. There are times I wonder why I did it, but overall I’m so happy to be a mom to my beautiful babies.

  23. I love this picture! It makes all the tiredness, sleepness nights, dirty diapers, and everything else worth it!
    Simply Beautiful.

  24. I love being a mom to two also. I just had my second daughter in July. It was a huge adjustment and I’m constantly tired, but I wouldn’t change things for the world!

Oh my goodness. They are sooo sweet! You (almost) make me want another one! And that is hard to do.
Two is definitely different than one. Although, now that mine are older they entertain each other a lot. With two girls they are either the best of friends or more drama than I can handle. 🙂

  32. This picture says it all;) I remember as a nanny when the second one joined us girls and it was bottle time ,I’d read a story to the children..It is one of those lovely times enjoy it..;)

  33. Hi ladies. Congratulations to both of you for your new arrivals. It’s so wonderful to read your journeys. How special you had them so close together.

On a side note, I heard you on the Nicholas Sparks podcast! How cool!

  34. Oh, this picture is precious! I am glad to hear you are adjusting well. :o)

  35. Christine says:

Congrats on your two beautiful children. Also I’m so glad to hear you’re nursing, it’s such a special thing, and so beneficial to your baby.

    The picture is beautiful.

  36. I also agree with Mama Grizzly. My heart swelled beyond comprehension when I saw my daughter’s face the first time she saw her brother. She immediately fell in love. It was written all over her face. It amazed me that a 3 year old feel immediately connected when she really didn’t understand what happened. All she knew was he was HER brother and she was and is willing to do anything for him.
I am so glad that God blessed us with 2 children. We are crazy about them and they are beyond crazy about each other.

    Congrats! Your children are beautiful.

  37. Cute picture!! They may be little but they can be loud that’s for sure… and very stinky. lol

  38. I remember the “sitting in a vehicle while nursing and trying to keep the siblings from creating havoc in the meantime” days. My children never let me read while nursing (which was devastating since I LOVE to read)so we had to resort to radio or tapes. Of course we had a small vehicle instead of a minivan so it made things that much more “interesting”. More than once I gave up and found a dressing room to go nurse in.

Children are a blessing from God, there is no doubt about it, and regardless s of how exhausting it is an amazing experience.

  39. Precious picture! Yes, one of my favorite things is having my little guy run into my daughter’s room every day saying, “Good morning, my princess!”

  45. That is a really nice picture.

  46. Oh I agree with Mama Grizzly… that was one of the best parts!

  47. Mama Grizzly says:

For me, one of the sweetest parts of having the second child was watching my first child fall in love with her. It just melts your heart!
