Airfryer French Toast Sticks

In case you haven’t heard, I am in love with the Philips Airfryer. I just have to show you this fun Airfryer French Toast Sticks recipe I created. It takes French Toast to a new, crispy place… Thanks so much to Philips for introducing me to the Airfryer and for sponsoring this recipe post.

Airfryer French Toast Sticks horizontal

Last month, I told you about my love affair with the Philips Airfryer. And yes, our love is still going strong.

In that post, I shared with you my recipe for a crazy delicious “apple pie” creation I called Airfryer Apple Pie Filo Pastries

Those buttery, flaky triangles of perfection are enough reason to go buy an Airfryer in themselves. (For a healthier version, I have also made them with coconut oil instead of butter and they were delicious too.)

But that is not all I have been making in my Philips Airfryer.

I have been cooking all kinds of things, from yam fries and potato fries of course, to white fish, to beet chips, and anything else I can think of – such as these French Toast Sticks.

In my Airfryer obsession, I decided why not try to make French Toast in there. But, to make it more fun and kid friendly, I thought, “Why not turn them into French Toast Sticks?” And so that is what I did…

How to Make French Toast Sticks in your Airfryer

Making French Toast in your Airfryer is darn simple and pretty much the same as when you make them on a stovetop.

However, when I use the Airfryer, I use some butter to keep them moist and allow the air to “fry” them without drying them out.

To add extra moisture during the cooking process and keep the sticks from sticking to the basket, I paused the machine part way through cooking time and sprayed both sides of my French Toast with a cooking spray.

Step One – Make Your Prep Station

First, preheat your Airfryer to 180* Celsius.

Then, in a bowl, gently beat together two eggs, a sprinkle of salt, a few heavy shakes of cinnamon, and small pinches of both nutmeg and ground cloves.

Next, butter your bread and cut into strips.

Step Two – Dredge and Fry in your Airfryer

When you have your ingredients all ready to go and your strips are cut, dredge each strip in the egg mixture and arrange in Airfryer.

After 2 minutes of cooking, pause the Airfryer, take out the pan, making sure you place the pan on a heat safe surface, and spray the bread with cooking spray.

Once you have generously coated the strips, flip and spray the second side as well.

Return pan to fryer and cook for 4 more minutes, checking after a couple minutes to ensure they are cooking evenly and not burning.

When egg is cooked and bread is golden brown, remove from Airfryer and serve immediately.

To garnish, have some fun and explore different options. You can sprinkle with icing sugar, top with whip cream, drizzle with maple syrup, or serve with a small bowl of syrup for dipping.

  8. I’m trying to get an idea of the capacity of an Airfryer. I have a family of four, so it seems most recipes I’d have to double or triple the batches in the Airfryer. Can you just tell me how many pieces of your average-sized bread it would hold, if I wanted to make toast? (I remember a commercial saying it replaces your toaster oven.) Thanks!
