You gotta love peeps getting together and sharing their know-how for free.
We just had an open source kinda conversation about Search Engine Optimization (or SEO). Thanks to a free conference line and the fabulously free Twitter, we all had a free SEO training session.
@sethjenks, @gwenbell, @homemakerbarbi, @LisaBarone, @ErenMckay, @scarymommy, @Carissa_MomIF, @JesseKateDesign, @MikeCP, @mommywizdom, @PlusSizeMommy, @MagsMac, @HappyHousewife, @amidoingokay, @ParkerMama, @ToThink, @pflick, @daNanner, and us — @5minutesformom — had Twitter hopping with #SEOchat tweets.
We even turned #SEOchat into a trending topic on Twitter! Cool, hey?
As promised we talked about the basics of search engine optimization — SEO 101.
We recorded the SEO conference call and you can read the Twitter chat conversation by searching #SEOchat.
(Btw, this podcast is totally open to anyone to take and embed on their own site. It’s FREE.)

Seth and I answered questions about how to research and select keywords to use in anchor text (linking text), titles, tags and content. We talked about what PageRank and Link Juice are, and what the deal is with the nofollow tag.
It was basic SEO stuff that everyone can benefit from… and you don’t have to be techie to understand.
One of the best links that I learned about on the call is an article on the SEOmozBlog about the 4 basic factors to ranking. Thanks Seth for the link to that article… it really spells SEO out into the simplest terms.
We’ll likely have further calls in the future, so make sure you’re following and watch for the #SEOchat.
Oh, and if you’re still not using Twitter, it’s time to start. Go sign up, and follow all those people I listed earlier. Then leave a comment below, and I’ll come follow you.

Right here is the right web site for everyone who wants
to understand this topic. You understand a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I personally will need to…HaHa).
You certainly put a fresh spin on a topic that has been discussed for years.
Great stuff, just wonderful!

Jennifer, on your Twitter home page, look to the upper right for the menu bar that says home…profile…find people..etc. Click on “find people”. When that screen comes up, look for the tab at the upper left that says “find on twitter”. Click that and enter your search term from there.
There are several 3rd party services that you can use to navigate Twitter. Tweetdeck is popular, as is twitterfeed. I use twhirl. They often have features you don’t find on the main Twitter page.
Hope that helps!

I’m so glad you recorded this. I couldn’t make the call Monday and was bumming about that.
Okay — so I tweet but I have NO idea how to search for a tag. I know about tags, but I don’t know how to look it up.
Help me please?

Wow! Thank you for explaining SEO! I’ve downloaded it and will listen again later. I confess I laughed that Seth used a car analogy with moms. 🙂 I REALLY hope you do more of these!!
