Um, excuse me waiter, but there’s a spider on my dessert. Wait, of course there is! Ladies and gents, we present our Spider Crinkle Cookies… a tasty Halloween recipe your kids will love.
This is Lisa here and I’m so excited to share this spooky Halloween recipe with you. I remember how a couple of years back, crinkle cookies were really catching their 5 minutes of fame on social media. They popped up everywhere. Seriously, every Pin that I turned to: there was a crinkle cookie.
So I jumped on the bandwagon (thanks, social media), and decided to make my very own. Soon enough, I was baking crinkle cookies for any party or celebration I was invited to. It was my go-to/“don’t-stop-me-now” recipe that came out perfect: Every. Single. Time.
It’s been nearly two years since I made a batch. With a recent craving (and a longing for nostalgia) I decided that this year, for Halloween, I’ll bake another dozen (shh, maybe more). But this time, I wanted to kick them up a notch.
For the spooky festivities, I decided to add a special touch. These cookies will surely spruce up any Halloween sweets table! Here’s how to make them:
Spider Crinkle Cookies Recipe
What You’ll Need
For the cookies:
- 1 box white cake mix
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup granulated sugar for coating
- ½ cup confectioners’ sugar for coating
For the decorative spider:
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 2-4 tbsp milk
- Violet gel food coloring
- Candy googly eyes
Yields: One dozen cookies
Make the Cookie Dough
In a bowl, mix together cake mix, oil and eggs. Once your cookie dough is formed, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Rollin’, Rollin’, Rollin’
Once chilled, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Roll your cookie dough into 1 ½ inch spheres and coat with granulated sugar followed by the icing sugar. Place gently on lined sheet, about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes and allow to cool completely on a wire rack.
Sweet Buttercream
Once cookies are cooled, start making your buttercream frosting. Using an electric mixer, beat butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk until smooth. Add food coloring and mix until completely blended.
Spider Décor
Using Wilton tip #12, frost a dollop of buttercream in the center of each cookie and place two candy eyes. With Wilton tip #8, frost out 4 legs on each of its sides. Happy Halloween!
