If you want to add some extra wow to your home, here are ten design accents from the HGTV® Dream Home 2017.
Last week, I traveled to St. Simons Island, Georgia, with HGTV® to tour the HGTV Dream Home.
As you can imagine, it was a amazing experience. Not only did I get to soak in the sunshine and beauty of the Georgian Golden Isles, but I got to visit the HGTV Dream Home along with the designer of the home, Brian Patrick Flynn.
You can read my about St. Simons Island in my post Welcome to St. Simons Island, Georgia. And you can join me in my photo tour in my post Tour of the HGTV Dream Home 2017
But there were so many fabulous elements to the home, I still have more to share.
Some of my favorite parts of the house were the design accents Brian used to decorate the HGTV Dream Home.
Brian was inspired by the luscious landscape of St. Simons Island and used used the colors of the outdoors for the decor in the home.
Throughout the home, Brian has infused the rooms with the home’s surrounding nature — the greys of the tangled live oaks and the Spanish moss draping their branches, the deep greens of the palm leaves and the towering leafy treetops, and the bright blue Georgian sky reflecting in the marsh lagoon.
Accent items can take a room from ordinary to stunning and we can get some great ideas from Brian’s choices for the HGTV Dream Home. And fortunately for us, the HGTV Dream Home is sponsored by Wayfair.com and so we can easily shop to bring our favorite pieces to our homes.
Here are my top 10 favorite design accents from the HGTV Dream Home 2017.
1. Baskets with Pops of Color
Baskets not only help keep your home tidy, but they can add so much flair to a room. I love the blue blanket in the woven basket against the fabulous striped carpet. One of the simplest photos I took during the tour and yet one of my favorites.
I am very tempted to buy this rolling laundry basket. It is so functional and charming. But I do need to purge my house of mismatched towels!
2. Crazy Cool Light Fixtures
Throughout the HGTV Dream Home 2017, you will find incredible light fixtures. If you want to make a statement in a room, check out the light fixtures throughout the house and see more at Wayfair.com.
3. Funky Wall Accents
From antlers, to mirrors, to these metal wall hangings, Brian makes sure his walls are the furthest thing from boring.
He uses these Metal Fireworks Wall Decor by Corrigan Studio in both the formal dining room and in the kitchen.
4. White Walls and Color Contrasts
As a photographer, I love to have tons of white in a room. It bounces the light all around and makes everything feel clean and fresh. But I don’t want to leave everything white. Pops of color make the white room come alive. These super fun vertical bookshelves are actually stable and functional.
5. Succulents
Succulents are definitely on trend right now. They are everywhere. And understandably so. Whether you use them individually or in large arrangements like this, succulents add life and freshness to any space.
6. Busts?
Okay – I hadn’t had busts on the top of my design wish list. But Brian uses busts in the formal dining room and they work beautifully.
7. Framed Art for Contrast and Color
While I am usually trying to find wall space for photographs of my kids, using artwork such as this gorgeous lighthouse print adds great contrasting color and pays homage to the home’s coastal surroundings. It is definitely a design accent highlight in my book.
8. Fresh Flowers and Greenery
In keeping with Brian’s nature-inspired color scheme, he has accented this wonderful marble table with fresh white flowers, greenery and a glass bell jar terrarium. Against the background of that fantastic striped rug, the effect is gorgeous.
9. Textured Throw Pillows for the Win
Throw pillows are our best friend. They can add color, texture and comfort to a room with so little expense or effort. I adore this little sofa in the master bedroom and the pillows are the perfect finish.
10. Fabulous Floors
I can’t even decide which I love more — the engineered oak floors or this incredible handmade round area rug in the foyer of the house. I want them both.
Hope you have had some fun dreaming along with me this week and that you are inspired with some fun design ideas for your own home.

My mom is so great at decorating and she always makes use of the baskets with a pop of color trick. I need to make like her and do it myself. Haha! Thanks for sharing these. They will come in handy as I stage our house to sell!
