It is time for holiday fun making toy shaped Rice Krispies Treats for the annual #TreatsForToys program with Kellogg Canada and the Salvation Army. If you’re Canadian, you can turn your family time into a service to families in need by creating Rice Krispies Treats for Treats for Toys. We’ve been compensated for our time creating this post.
Have your kids started making their Christmas wish lists yet?
I must admit, the whole “Santa” thing is stressful. Sure, it is fun idea. But how many times have you had to try and explain to your kids why Santa didn’t bring the same “big ticket” items for your kids that he brought for their friends?
If only Santa were real. We parents could forget about budgets and bills. We could sit back and relax Christmas morning, watching our kids light up with joy as they tear open their magical gifts.
Alas, Santa isn’t flying through the night, delivering Christmas miracles.
Some children will wake up to mountains of presents. But so many other children will wake up to very little – perhaps nothing.
I don’t have a sled or a stable full of toy making elves. And I certainly can’t deliver toys to every child in need.
But fortunately, Kellogg Canada and the Salvation Army are creating some Santa-giving during their 4th annual #TreatsforToys program.
If you’re Canadian, you can create a toy-shaped Rice Krispies treat and upload a photo of it to RiceKrispies.ca or share it on social media with #treatsfortoys.
For every photo uploaded before December 21, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies will donate $20 to The Salvation Army for the purchase of an actual toy for a child in need.
Yes, you really can turn Treats INTO Toys.
It Starts with Holiday Fun…
Rice Krispies Treats are our family’s favourite sweet treat to make together. They are quick, fun and yummy!
So this holiday season, whip up a batch of Rice Krispies Treats and then mold them into a fun toy-shaped treat.
For ideas on some toy shapes to create, check out treatsfortoys.ca or let your child pick out a favorite toy and use it for inspiration.
Over the past years, our kids have made all kinds of different toy-shaped treats for #treatsfortoys.
It has become an annual challenge to think of new toys to create with Rice Krispies. This year, our girls went for a toy hunt through our house and came up with three new ideas…
Santa’s Soccer Ball – Rice Krispies Treats Recipe
The first idea our girls came up with was a soccer ball.
We used fondant to create an ultra smooth, realistic Rice Krispies Soccer Ball.
But no worries – you can skip the fondant and use regular icing if you prefer. Or, if you want more Rice Krispies to show through and have less icing, skip the white of the ball, and just create the black pentagons with fondant or icing.

Tammy Toucan – Rice Krispies Treats Recipe
Next up was a favourite stuffed toy Julia won at a local fair. We modeled our Tammy Toucan after it.
For this recipe, we used pink food colouring with buttercream frosting to create the bright pink icing for Tammy Toucan’s feathers and then fondant for the details.
Again, you can skip the fondant and just use whatever icing or frosting you prefer. Your creations do NOT need to be perfect. This is all about the fun factor.

Good Tidings Teddy – Rice Krispies Treats Recipe
My daughter Olivia created our Good Tidings Teddy all by herself.
Olivia has no interest in fondant — she doesn’t like the taste and doesn’t want to take the time to roll it out and fiddle with it.
Olivia also does not like the taste of food colouring. So she dyed her Good Tidings Teddy with cocoa! This recipe is all about taste and speed.
