Whistler Blackcomb in beautiful British Columbia, Canada must be on your family travel bucket list.
And if you’re local to BC, Canada or to Washington State, USA, you want to make sure you visit these mountains in each different season.
I grew up skiing on Whistler and watching the village grow from only a few restaurants to the world class resort it is now.
But since I had kids, I stopped skiing and snowboarding, and hadn’t been to Whistler Blackcomb for 10 years!
Thanks to the mountain’s PR team for reminding me and treating my family and I to a complimentary night stay in the Creekside village as well as site seeing passes, my girls and I had a most wonderful mini vacation.
We stayed a couple of nights in the upper village. (My mom actually shares ownership of a small condo there, but it is normally always rented out. We were very lucky that it was free and my mom let us stay there.)
Then we spent a night in the amazing Evolution in the Creekside Village.
I’d never been Creekside in Whistler before, and I absolutely loved it. It seems to be a very family friendly and quieter option compared to the active nightlife of the main Whistler Village. By 10:00 pm, most of the shops in the Creekside Village are closed whereas other hotspots in Whistler are kicking into serious party action at that time.
When I first visited Whistler as a child, about 35 years ago, it was during the winter and I was learning to ski. In those days, the mountains were mainly a winter weather resort. But now, Whistler Blackcomb offers year round activities.
In the summer, instead of skiing or snowboarding down the mountain, people ride mountain bikes.
But if you’re like me and not quite ready to race down the mountain on a bike, you can head up the gondola to enjoy the views and do some hiking.
My girls had never been on a chairlift before and they were amazed by the views. (They were nervous at first, but once they got on the chairlift, they relaxed quickly and enjoyed the ride.)
One of our three days, we took a break from the hot sun and went swimming in the indoor pool at the Meadow Park Sports Centre.
Since it was such a hot and sunny day outside, we were almost the only people in the indoor pool.
It was perfect! We spent over 3 hours at the pool and had such a fabulous time. My red head Julia can’t stay in the hot sun for too long, so this was a wonderful way to get a break from the sunshine and still enjoy summer fun.
We shared live videos on Periscope from the Gondolas and chairlifts as well as from the top of the mountain.
And of course, I posted tons of photos on Instagram.
Here are a few of our Instagram shots…
