Do you snore? Or worse, do you lose sleep because of a snorer? What about sleep apnea?

Our survey revealed these #SnoringStruggles: pic.twitter.com/0OVcuSwtyG

— AADSM (@AADSMorg) February 19, 2015

Snoring and sleep apnea are common problems!

Loud and frequent #snoring is a common sign of #sleepapnea. #SnoringStruggles

— Kathleen Bennett (@DrBennettDDS) February 19, 2015

Thanks to the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), we’re finding out more about snoring and sleep anea, including the health risks associated with snoring and treatment options as well as the plight of spouses of untreated sleep apnea sufferers.

Many #dentists are qualified to help treat #snoring & #sleepapnea. Find a local dentist: http://t.co/EpESdrJNrn. #SnoringStruggles

— AADSM (@AADSMorg) February 19, 2015

The experts at the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) can provide information regarding the health risks associated with snoring and sleep apnea as well as treatment options.

Check out localsleepdentist.com to find out more about sleep solutions.

What Is “Dental Sleep Medicine”?

Have you ever heard of “Dental Sleep Medicine” before? I hadn’t until the AADSM contacted us to arrange this Twitter Party. Now I’ll be telling everyone I know… this is important information!

Dental Sleep Medicine = #dentists managing sleep breathing probs (#snoring & #sleepapnea) w/oral appliance therapy. #SnoringStruggles

— AADSM (@AADSMorg) February 19, 2015

Oral appliance therapy (OAT) uses a “mouth guard-like” device worn during sleep to maintain an open, unobstructed airway #SnoringStruggles

— 5minutesformom (@5minutesformom) February 19, 2015

If you or anyone in your family snores loudly, you should get tested by a doctor to see if sleep apnea might be an issue.

No need to #sleep in a lab! At-home sleep apnea tests are an option! #SnoringStruggles

— Kathleen Bennett (@DrBennettDDS) February 19, 2015

Once diagnosed by a physician, a dentist trained in #dentalsleepmedicine can provide treatment with OAT. #SnoringStruggles

— AADSM (@AADSMorg) February 19, 2015

#Dentists mold oral appliances – which look like mouth guards – to fit your teeth to treat #snoring & #sleepapnea. #SnoringStruggles

— AADSM (@AADSMorg) February 19, 2015

TIP: OAT devices prevent the airway from collapsing by either holding the tongue or supporting jaw in a forward position #SnoringStruggles

— 5minutesformom (@5minutesformom) February 19, 2015

TIP: Go to http://www.aadsm.org to find a local dentist trained in oral appliance therapy (OAT). #SnoringStruggles #Dentists

I don’t snore regularly but I do snore from time to time. I do know that I have obstructive sleep apnea. I had a cpap machine that my insurance stopped covering so I gave it back. Not getting the proper night’s sleep is not good. I wake up unrefreshed and more often than not feeling worse.

My husband snores SO loudly! In fact, recently when he was on a ‘boy’s weekend away’, his roommate told him that he was lucky I haven’t killed him in his sleep! I usually sleep pretty deeply, but if he falls asleep first or if I wake up in the middle of the night, it is SO difficult to go to sleep with him sounding like a chainsaw next to me!

Since we both have allergies, our kids struggle with various allergies thru the year. Allergies leads to congestion which often causes snoring. During peak allergy season, whenever triggers build up I can hear this one or that one snoring. It was also an indicator that they needed to start taking 24 hr meds. And yes, I have my moments snoring or so I’m told.

My husband snores so loud, I’ve heard him downstairs in our living room while he’s upstairs in our bedroom which is upstairs and all the way down the hall!!!!! He will abruptly snort/choke sound occasionally as well. His dentist has checked him out twice with an overnight monitor and they have said he has bouts of loud snoring but not sleep apnea and his breathing doesn’t stop. I thought for sure he had it! I have moderate to severe Sleep Apnea diagnosed through an overnight Sleep study at the hospital hooked up to hundreds of diodes. I stopped breathing roughly 30+ times an hour and I now use a CPAP machine. I find that I am rested more with the machine but I can only use it for about 4 hours a night as it wakes me up from my sleep then I remove it and go back to sleep.

I found out that I snore and also both of my sons. The Doctors have me on a CPAP machine but I cannot stand it after 15 minutes as I’m the type of person that chokes all night on sinus mucus so of course the machine does not help me since you have to keep your mouth closed. So the machines sits unused. My sons medical insurance will not pay for the tests and they are expensive. How do we know because they denied after my one son went and had the tests done and now he owes almost $1750.

I swear it’s because I need a super super soft mattress. I about DIED of shock when I see how much a mattress costs. I’m sad. I wake up a lot, my arm hurts from laying on it, my HIP hurts from laying on the too hard mattress. I despair.

Hubby snores so loud that when he is sleeping in the bedroom upstairs I can hear him loud and clear downstairs. His own snoring sometimes wakes him up! He tells me that I sometimes snore but I wouldn’t know…since I am asleep. I did a sleep study once for sleep apnea but was told I don’t have it. Good thing too, since the cure looks worse than the disease…no way would I be able to sleep attached to one of those CPAP machines.
