Why are kids so much cuter when they’re speaking a foreign language?

Written by Susan

Don’t you just LOVE hearing little kids speaking a foreign language? I mean, they just sound sooooo cute!!!

You’ve gotta turn on your speakers and watch this couldn’t-be-cuter video.

Too much candy from Capucha on Vimeo.

So tell me… what is it that makes a tiny tot speaking French so irresistible?

I think maybe it’s because they sound terrifically smart. What do you think?

Oh my word that was the best! And yes, they DO sound very, very smart!

I love the sound of the French language. And yes, they do sound very smart! :)

My baby here right now has watched the video with me, I can just see how round his eyes were because he’s watching another baby girl. :)

That is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen. I wonder if the English language sounds “smart” to French speaking people. Probably not…

How cute! I loved it!

Tears.. I have tears rolling down my cheeks! She is sooooo adorable!

Yep.. I was working on Italian with my daughters, I’m thinking French is the way to go!!

I adore this video of this little girl, and am slightly envious of her fabulous accent — since I’ve been trying to get one that is even half as good as hers in french since I was in the 6th grade. As a French teacher I am making every effort to raise my daughter bilingually, and this video just encouraged me to work even harder with her. Today we learned “Where are my eyes?” in French. She doesn’t say it, but she points, which is progress!

Thanks for this, I loved watching it!

Oh my — this is adorable!

That is so adorable! If parents know a second language they should teach their children. I wish I did! That is so neat to see.

I’m fortunate that my husband’s first language is German. He only speaks to her in German and she has picked it up beautifully. I think part of the reason that my heart melts when she speaks to her father or anyone in German is because it is so innocent and pure. You know that what she is saying is exactly what she’s thinking …

Adorable. Truly. I am inspired to teach my children french!

God bless-
Amanda

Precious, just precious! The little darling is adorable speaking French. I think it’s not just that she’s speaking French that makes her sound so very smart, but her thought processes too! Thanks for sharing Susan!

It may be that we’re so used to English, that it sounds so neat to hear kids speak in a different language. Cute video! I hope she dosen’t grow up scared of her papa, though! lol

#13 - Tina @ 11:53 am

So cute. I wanted to see what happened when papa came home. :)

Awww, so cute. And such a lovely language.

I have always thought French kids sound like little kittens when they speak.
Capucine is not only cute, but she oozes intelligence. What a wonderful and confident little girl!

I live in France and both my kids are bilingual speaking both French and English with perfect accents. When they speak French their voices sound completely different.
I think it may be because the French speak in the front of the mouth, using their lips a lot more than we do in English (which is why perhaps it sounds so sexy in an adult).

It is a wonderful thing to be bilingual, and children pick up languages so quickly and easily compared to an adult. Thanks for sharing the clip, I’ll we watching a lot more of her.

SUPER cute!! Love the little girl :)
Thanks for sharing

Awwwww! Too cute! Thanks for sharing.

Oh, what a little doll she is! Too cute! I love the insight into her little mind: “Hide the box, quick!” and telling her mom to say, “No, no, no. No one is in there.” I mean, not that I encourage lying and deception, ;) but I love watching little minds at work. It’s neat to see as they get older how they get more creative.
And you’re right - it would be cute in English, some reason it’s even cuter in French. :)

Too cute. I watched some of the other ones on there. I loved the Pump it one with her dancing. LOL

Talking about learning to speak French reminded me of this clip of Steve Martin as a french man wanting to speak English without an accent. http://youtube.com/watch?v=yX4IYXaYVko&feature=related
It made me laugh.

Hello !
I’m Capucine’s mom and I wanted to thank you very much for posting Capucine’s video :)
Also, thanks to all of you for your very kind comments on my little girl ! I’m very surprised (and very honored) about how many blogs have posted it! I’m also happy this makes some of you want to teach french to your own children, it is a beautiful language (but a difficult one, though). The younger they start, the best it is !
Capucine will start learning english next year at school, and I can’t wait.
I personnally think any baby speaking a different language is cute. I love hearing little kids speak english, or italian, or spanish…
Thanks again for your lovely comments !
Cheers !
Anne
