I recently had to buy a new printer. Unfortunately, about six months after that I bought a new laptop which had the Windows Vista operating system, and my still-new printer wouldn’t work! There was no driver to support Vista. My husband’s computer still used XP, so I just had to make sure I used his to print. It was sort of a pain, but the idea of just tossing my printer (and the expensive ink refills that I had just purchased!) was not appealing to me.
Honestly, even when I could print from my laptop, my set-up was still inconvenient. The printer was in the basement, and so each time I wanted to print, I had to take my laptop downstairs, grab the cable and hook it up to my computer and then wait for my document to print. Then I had to do the opposite — unhook the printer and then bring both my document and my laptop back upstairs.
When I bought my last printer, I eyed printers with wireless capabilities because of my set-up, but I wasn’t sure that it would really work, and I didn’t want to risk spending the extra money to try it out.
I was so happy when I found out that I was going to be trying out the Lexmark X4650 which is an all-in-one inkjet printer that scans, copies, and prints — and it’s wireless. Even better — it’s completely affordable. At a retail price of $129, it’s perfect for home use, to send with your child to college, or even for a second printer.
When the printer arrived, I delayed setting it up. I had to gear up mentally to read through the book and figure out which cord went into which jack, load the drivers on my computer, etc. etc. (Am I the only woman of the house who ends up stuck with these techy responsibilities? Isn’t this supposed to be a man’s job?)
When I finally decided to just bite the bullet and set it up, it was a breeze. All I had to do was enter the disk into my computer, and follow the on-screen directions. As the drivers loaded on my computer, I was setting up the printer, as directed. It walked me through plugging it in, adding the ink cartridges, and most importantly — finding the wireless signal. It was so easy!
When it was all set, I wanted to test it out. I brought it upstairs and printed a document. Then I went downstairs, and there it was. No lugging my laptop back and forth, no cables to connect and disconnect.
I’m so glad that I went wireless, and now I’d like to pass that happiness on to one of you.

I have a new granddaughter and while I can print plenty of pictures of her, my daughter can’t. She comes here to print and she is the one who needs a printer. She and her husband are working on remodeling a disaster of a house and there is no money for “frivolous” things like a new printer. She had a problem pregnancy and was unable to work, and is not yet ready to go back to work. The baby is almost two months old. It’s been a long and expensive summer. Mom and baby are fine, as well as a six-year-old brother. Making and updating scrapbooks is a way to pass long days, but without a printer the process is slow. Mom needs a printer to continue those projects; wireless is perfect in this work-in-progress home; and brother likes to print lots of coloring pages to keep busy, too. Hope you can pick us to keep good memories of a growing family.

I found this blog after for the 50th time in the last month, I had to lug my old printer, to my kitchen table and plug it into my laptop because I cant get it to work with the other computer upstairs because of some wierd driver thing – it is a busy week here, no place to keep the printer down here – I not only had work to do, but I had to scan in and email stuff, kids had homework to print.. back and forth, back and forth – I didnt know there were wireless printers! (Yeah, been that long since I shopped) – does it work with XP and Vista? How nice would it be not to have to lug the old one around? Right now we are without a working printer. I have actually been admiring this Lexmark X4650 all-in-one wireless inkjet printer for a while now. The specs on it are fantastic and it is perfect for our needs. Right now we are having our copying done at Kinkos which is not too far from our home, but it is a hassle to keep going there and quite frankly it is a lot more fun to print from the comfort of your own home and I love to involve our 3 children in the process if we are printing up photographs from different events. Our old printer died on us after having it for 3 years, and we have not replaced it, so this is the perfect solution for us! Thank you for bringing us this terrific giveaway!

I got a newer (not wireless) printer about 2 years ago, but ever since I’ve seen the wireless ones it’s all I can talk about! I’m jealous of the people who own them…it would be so much less of a hassle to print. I would love to own one of these!
My current printer jams constantly; it’s old and has seen far better days.
My wife really needs a new printer – her’s is not working quite the way it is specifed it would work.

I know how you feel! I went wireless 2 years ago and wonder why I had not done it sooner. I was really tickled when I got my Bluetooth head set..Oh, My! It was fantastic!! And people could not even see it cause my hair covered it. So, it really made them give me wierd looks! No wires or bulky pieces of technology hanging out the side of my face…sooooo cool!

Oh my goodness! We have been wanting a wireless printer for awhile now. We actually have the same problem as you did. Our new computer doesnt support our printer 🙁
This would solve so many of my troubles with the laptop being wireless and our printer not!

That would be fantastic. I was just asking my hubby the other day how to print with my laptop without walking thru the playroom to my office, hooking up, waiting and then receiving a document! This way, I could send a kid out to the office to retrieve an already printed document 🙂

Oh my this would be wonderful! I have the same set up you described. The computer in the basement, that is hooked to our old, icky printer is only used for kids games. My husband and I both use laptops in other parts of the house. His won’t work with the printer. Mine will (thank goodness for Macs!) but it is a bother to go downstairs every time I want to print.

I am kinda in the same boat, my laptop has Vista the PC does not, it won;t let us network the 2 so I can print on our big printer…WAAA, gotta go all the way to the basement and remember where and what I have to print.

I have the same problem with my laptop. The printer is on hubby’s dresser and it’s such a pain to hook up the cables, print everything and then carry the whole mess back downstairs. We’ve been talking about getting a wireless printer but haven’t done it yet so this would be awesome! What a great giveaway!
