A mix-match of bright colors and simple people and animal figures (sometimes, even aliens!) outlined in black placed in stories about joy, acceptance, and love= Todd Parr. His style is immediately recognizable, and children are drawn to his picture books with smiles on their faces.
For your youngest book lovers, Todd Parr is most accessible in board book form. With soft, puffy covers and a perfectly sized square shape for little hands, two new titles from Parr are ready to be gazed upon (and chewed on, as well) by the toddlers in your life. Animals in Underwear ABC and Doggy Kisses 123 are formatted as simple concept books, with Parr’s signature fun. While we don’t expect our wee ones to master counting or memorizing the alphabet before they’re able to feed themselves, it’s a good time to introduce the concepts, especially when they’re matched with vivid colors and funny pictures.
The titles are perfectly straightforward– you get a different animal decked in a brightly colored pair of underpants for each letter of the alphabet. (Except for that stubborn zebra whose own stripes are enough pattern for him, perhaps!) Especially fun are the pages that flip up, revealing two additional animals under the flap, helping to fit in the whole alphabet without making the book too thick for little hands to hold. In the number book, babies and toddlers who have dogs in their own families will surely giggle with recognition at the abundance of kisses– cuddly, slobbery, and playful among them. As with all of Parr’s books, happiness oozes from these pages, making them joyful reads for little ones and their caregivers.
