The Princess And The Frog Giveaway

I love Disney movies, always have. Growing up I had many of them on VHS. It wasn’t until I had my first child, that I really desired to begin a Disney DVD collection. I still remember the first Disney DVD I purchased. My daughter, Audrey, was 18 months old at the time and Bambi was released from the vault. I had pre-ordered it and everything. There was a skip in my step, when I headed to Toys “R” Us on my lunch break to pick up my copy.

That is why I am always excited when we are offered the opportunity to do giveaways at 5 Minutes for Mom for the newest Disney releases. It thrills me to give one or more of you a chance to receive another addition to your Disney DVD collection.

Next week, The Princess And The Frog releases on DVD and we of course have copies just for you.

I had yet to see The Princess And The Frog, and my daughter, who is now 6, was counting down the days until we could go buy the newest princess movie. She was beyond ecstatic when a review copy came our way, before it was even available in the stores.

We popped some popcorn and sat down in anticipation as The Princess And The Frog started. I wish I could go on and on about how much I loved it, but really I am a bit torn. The movie started off so lighthearted and fun. It has such an adorable intro. I also love that one of the main messages of the movie is that you have to work hard to make your dreams a reality.

But then the movie took a turn for the worse. The movie’s villain practices Voodoo, and his evil works and plots with evil spirits take up a huge chunk of the film. It gets pretty scary and demonic, in my opinion. I almost turned it off, but since I was reviewing it for this post, I kept it going. I will definitely not let my boys, who are four and two, watch this movie yet. I guess I was a little taken aback by the amount of evilness in a Disney movie.

If you saw The Princess And The Frog in the theaters, I would love to hear what you and your children thought about the movie.

If your children are counting down the days until Princess And The Frog releases, March 16th, then this is definitely the giveaway for you. We have 2 combo packs to give away. The combo pack includes a Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital copy and retails for $44.99.

PrincessandTheFrog3DiscBlurayCombo smTiana, the ninth and newest enchanting addition to the legendary lineage of Disney Princesses, makes her home entertainment debut in a rollicking Big Easy-style fairy tale when The Princess and the Frog arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD on March 16, 2010 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

A timeless heroine in the tradition of Snow White, Ariel, Jasmine and the rest of the beloved royal sisterhood, Tiana comes to life with classic hand-drawn Disney animation from the revered team of John Musker and Ron Clements (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid) and a jazz-infused musical score from Academy Award® winning composer Randy Newman (Best Original Song, Monsters, Inc., 2001).

A royal procession of exclusive bonus features, including games and specially- created featurettes, take viewers on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the storied French Quarter of New Orleans and into the magic-steeped bayou for hours of
can’t-miss family entertainment.

  78. We have a large Disney DVD collection too. I have not seen The Princess and the Frog yet, but we have been looking forward to it. I am glad Disney has started making traditional hand-drawn animated films again. I am a little surprised by your review. I didn’t realize the villain played such a large role. Most Disney films seem to have an element of evil. The bad guys are usually truly bad. We’ll judge this one when we see it. Thank you for the chance to win.

  164. I would love to win a copy of this. This was the VERY first movie that my daughter saw in the the theater (and second that my son saw). I agree with you that there were definitely some scary moments. They evilness of the voo-doo, etc went over their heads, but some of the scary parts didn’t. I was grateful that we had no nightmares, although they both claimed afterwards to have loved it. They did both have “unfavorite” parts that they shared with me. I liked having a more original story as part of the Disney collection, and some of the movie was very sweet – like Ray being reunited, which made *me* cry. I’m with you that younger children should not see this, but hey, my wee ones also haven’t seen Snow White or Beauty and the Beast because of scary moments. Call me protective.

Oh, and did I mention that I loved the Randy Newmann music?

PS I’d subscribe to your feed if I knew how. I’m somewhat technologically uninclined when it comes to that.

  165. Well, I enjoyed the movie and my son did (aged 6), as well, though he was scared a little in the heart o the action. I thought the music was great and I loved the moral of the story but I do appreciate your concerns with the villian — he truly was evil. I agree that it may not be appropriate for younger kids.

  199. i am so saddened to see such a great blog site geared for moms of young children offering this movie. and i’m saddened by seeing so many mom’s saying the want a copy, they loved it and their kiddos loved it.

disney is very devious in introducing the occult and evil into childrens movies and they have been doing it for years (check out comment #8 by kel. this is darkness and evil, plain and simple. they just add a little sugar coating and make it all nice and pretty by adding a great storyline, singing and music and wonderful characters. i did see the movie with my son. i was appalled.

i wish a great blog like yours would consider telling disney, thanks but no thanks. not sure why you feel beholden to give away this movie when there are other better things that you could give away. i’d even be glad to put up the $$ to do so if that is the issue.

  232. We’d love to own the new Disney Princess movie. My daughter and I saw the movie in the theater and this is what I posted after viewing it, “Though I wish the film would have centered less on voodoo magic, we both enjoyed the movie, especially the fantastic music and hand drawn animation.” I think most kids will be able to handle the darkness, but that doesn’t mean that the movie needed to contain so much of it. I do love the New Orleans scenery and diversity of the characters so I think the film is worthwhile owning.

  233. Kel - rewritingkel says:

I subscribed to the newsletter and follow you on twitter. 🙂 I did see the movie with my 8 year old first and then took my 3 year old. yes there was some darkness to it but not anymore than I think some of the old disney movies such as sleeping beauty, snow white, little mermaid. (Mama Odie is, in fact, the opposite in all ways of Dr. Facilier.) I also liked how the female friends were allies instead of rivals. Plus the music was amazing. All in all, a good movie, and far less traumatic than Bambi!

  254. I’d love to win this movie for my nieces. Thanks for the chance.

  255. I was torn just like you. My daughter is 5 yrs and this is the first movie she asked to go and see. On TV she would see the advertisement for the movie starting on “Friday.” Everyday she would ask if it was Friday yet. I decided to take her because she was so into it and I wanted to see it myself. She was scared of the villian parts and covered her eyes through those parts. I don’t blame her because I thought they were a little scary myself!

  257. My daughter (3) and her best friend (4) were obsessed with seeing this movie. We took them back in December. I was surprised because both girls can get jittery, but they loved this movie. There were a few scenes that had them clinging to mommy, but they’ve been playing Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen ever since.

We would love to win this.

  258. I watched this in theatre with my 4-year-old And 2-year-old. I agree that there were a lot of dark and evil scenes. Much more than in any other movie. My daughters did get scared, especially in the graveyard part, but they keep asking to buy the movie and ask for princess & frog toys constantly, so I guess it didn’t affect them too bad!

Apropos the “demonic and evil” bad guys–For what it’s worth, for years my dotter regularly skipped over the scary parts in all the classic Disney movies, and she *still* won’t watch either Sleeping Beauty or Snow White because they’re so scary to her (she’s 8).

  273. We haven’t actually seen this movie yet, but my little girl has seen the bill boards and commercials everywhere — she is absolutely OBSESSED with Tiana!! She wants to wear the same Tiana shirt over and over again and carries her Tiana doll around everywhere. We just got back from WDW and after waiting in line for over 2 hours (not fun w./ a toddler) to see Tiana, we unfortunately didn’t even get the chance as she “had to leave”. Seriously, how can Disney do that to kids?! Ugh. Anyways, my daughter was heart broken and so sad — luckily an ice cream helped. 🙂

Anyways, I would please like to be entered into your contest as I know my little one would be super excited to see her favorite Disney Princess!

    Thank you!! 🙂

  293. I subscribe in Google reader and I love, love, love the new design. So much lighter and airier, it feels good just to be on it.

  294. I enjoyed the movie, a lot, but my children are older, 7 and 9. That being said, although I am Christian, I am not overly religious, but the voodoo in the movie bothered me–a lot. Also, I did not like that I never really felt like good triumphed over evil–evil just went away to wreak havoc somewhere else. Probably realistic, but not a great message.

I just want to say thank you for being honest. I would think a lot of people receiving a free product and giveaway would do their best to sugar coat the product and say how much they loved it. But you are concerned enough about your children and viewers children to tell how you really felt. Thank you for the honest post.

  298. Katy~The Country Blossom says:

I would love the chance to win! 🙂 Thanks so much!!! 🙂

  299. Hmmm…….I’ve been so excited for its release as well as I didn’t get to see it either. I do Love Disney movies and I too have a nice collection for my son and I but UGH…. I’m so disappointed to hear about all the voodoo/evil undertones. I hate when they feel the need to toss all that garb in. I “guess” we wanna win a copy………If we do win and it’s too awful bad we can always give it away….Course then I’d prolly feel guilty giving it to another child to watch….bummer really

We did see this movie at the theater, and my family is totally in love with it. Even my grumpy bear husband enjoyed it. He hates when I drag him out to the kiddie movies, but he had a great time. He even asked when it was coming to dvd. The kids said it might even take the place of the favorite, Beauty and the Beast. WOW that is top honors in our house.

Hmm… my boys – ages 6, 4 and 2, saw it with their grandma and liked it a lot. I asked my mom if it was scary or too much voodoo and she said “No. But I knew it was going to have it.”
Maybe I should’ve learned a little more about it. I’d still love to win it!

  322. My girls 4 and 6 love this movie. When the voodoo started I was a little worried they would get scared, luckily they did not. I did have to answer many question about the evil spirits and voodoo. Not super happy about that. My girls did love the movie and are counting down the days!

  323. Vanessa from Portland says:

I took my four year old daughter to see this movie in the theater, and like you, we were SO excited! It was actually the first time I had ever taken my daughter to the theater, and it was quite a big event.

We liked most of the movie, but the voodoo parts were really scary! And I wasn’t really too big of a fan of those parts! I will say that in the theater, the music was amazing. We were dancing along and having so much fun!

We would love to have a copy of the movie! I’m sure we would end up fast-forwarding the scary parts at home, but we would have a great time watching the rest together!

  324. I would love to have a copy of the movie!
