Christmas Tree Trimming

Time to deck the halls and trim the trees…

This weekend, my family and I got our Christmas tree up and decorated. It is an artificial tree, much to my husband’s disappointment, so no trip to the tree lot for us.

After my husband digs the tree out of our storage room and assembles it, the tree falls under my jurisdiction. I am lucky if I can convince my hubby to stay in the room for the decorating. Other than his one Montreal Canadiens ornament, he doesn’t care too much about the finished product.

So, I get down to work. First task — pull out and untangle Christmas lights:

Wait, before I untangle, I think I will make sure they light up:

Perfect. They work. Now, my least favorite job — stringing the lights on the tree, hoping I end up with them evenly distributed and not run out before I reach the bottom of the tree.

Once I get the lights on, I add some ribbons and bows…

And then I call in my decorating crew.

Jackson LOVES to decorate and gets very upset if I do it without him.

Livvie really got into the decorating this year too. She did a fabulous job — even if she ended up with ten ornaments on one branch.

Jackson ended up getting distracted from decorating our tree and decided to decorate his room. We had a great time on that impromptu project.

Because we spent so much time on Jackson’s room, we didn’t have time to finish the tree before bedtime. But I knew Jackson would be devastated if I finished the tree without him and put the angel on top — Jackson’s job every year!

So tonight, we finished hanging the last ornaments together and Jackson put the angel on top!

What a tree. You’re one of the few I’ve seen that might give my wife a run for her money. Great photos too!

  2. What a beautiful tree. I have a pre-lit fake tree, and last year I was counting my blessings since I didn’t have to wrap the lights around. We’ll get a real tree again sometime, just not this year.

  3. Beautiful tree and very cute helpers.

  4. It turned out beautifully. Don’t you just love it when they “help?” Great photos.

  5. What a gorgeous tree! I really like the idea of ribbon as garland. Very elegant.

Love your tree! It’s beautiful. We don’t have ours up yet. I’m waiting for my hubby to get back from Dubai.

  7. What a beautiful photo story! I love how your family decorated the tree!!!

Beautiful pictures. You tree is gorgeous. I recently converted a guest room/office into a playroom. The room itself has a long way to go, but it’s cleaned up a lot of the rest of the house.

  10. How fun! Your tree looks beautiful! I think we need to get a steel tree next year; I can’t NOT put up every single ornament made or given to us…our tree has a definite tilt to it this year!

  11. Your tree is beautiful. Our boys used to always put the angel on like that too.
    Thanks for hosting!

  13. I prefer ribbon and lace to the standard garland but none it’s on my pitiful tree this year with a wild three year old running loose. I probably won’t have a great looking tree again till he’s what – 6 years old??? ;D Anyway it’s the time we spend together that counts!

I’m with Ann Marie. We are empty nesters and a couple years ago we went to a prelit tree and I do love it. I wish it had colored lights though! I love yours too and the ribbon.

What a lovely tree! I like the idea of using ribbon instead of garland!

We bought a pre-lit tree last year — and I just LOVE IT! Comes apart in three pieces, just plug in and POOF! Lovely tree with lights!
