Last year, when we heard that another Veggie Tales film was going to be released on the big screen, we were excited.
We don’t often go to the movie theater as a whole family because it’s hard to find a movie that appeals to a ten-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy (not to mention their parents!). Cost is another factor of course, but we went ahead and shelled out the money for the whole family to see The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything in the theater.
The humor of the Veggie Tales is the kind of thing that appeals to each of us in different ways (My son was laughing about the hopping cheese curls for weeks!).
Well, now that it’s being released on DVD (October 14), the whole family can enjoy it all over again.
We much prefer to watch a DVD at home for so many reasons:
- Home viewing is a fraction of the cost. You can rent the DVD for far less than a single ticket, and can buy the DVD for the cost of one adult and one child ticket.
- We can pause for potty breaks and not miss any of the action.
- We can make our own snacks, or have a pizza party (again — much lower cost!)
- We get to stay holed up in our own house, instead of getting out.
- We can watch it whenever we want — not subject to theater schedules and having to schedule around naptime, bedtime and mealtime.
I have even come to prefer watching DVDs with my husband instead of venturing out to the theater, for many of the same reasons. What about you? Do you stock up on DVDs for the kids and even your own viewing?

My family has just discovered Veggies Tales. It is a great to have something with values. So much in entertainments is no appropriate for younger children so I love that everyone in my family can watch and enjoy the Veggie Tales.

We usually have movie night at the house. Once in a blue moon we will go to the movies but for comfort, ease and money we have an evening at home.
I generally take the kids to the movies one time a year. I totally agree with you. It’s much cheaper to just buy the movie and watch it at home. Not to mention the bathroom breaks and just sitting back in my own recliner with at least one child on my lap.
But actually I rarely buy a video. Last year I bought every season of “The Dukes of Hazard”. We have special evenings and usually watch 2 episodes. I did buy 2 movies for the kids for Christmas this year.

I am starting to prefer watching DVDs at home mainly because of the outrageous prices. And, like you, I have to accommodate a range of ages: 1, 3, 4, 17 and then me – the mom! 😀 I haven’t even taken my youngest child to the theatre since she was a few months old because I don’t like to miss any of the movie. My 4 year old son says ARRRRRGH… he is a little pirate and would love this DVD (we haven’t seen it yet). He has been a pirate 2 years in a row for Halloween…this year I told him he had to be something else, but he will probably end up being a pirate again.

My goodness, my four year old loves pirates to the point where I was shocked she didn’t want to be one for Halloween. Veggie tales are awesome!
My boys would LOVE this!! They have quite a few of the veggietales VHS movies that we got from yard sales and we’ve been wanting to see this one. The theme of our Church’s bible school this year was Veggie Tales: The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything and it was sooo good, the boys loved it! We rarely go to the movies too, we just prefer watching them at home and it’s much cheaper!

This movie was playing the other weekend at our theater for the Free Fall Flicks and we totally missed it. My daughter would love this movie! She pretty much has every Veggie Tales song memorized!
My daughter came one on day from school and told me she wanted to watch Veggie Tales. I knew who they were, I just didn’t know she liked them. Come to find out, they watched it during recess one day (it was raining) and she loves them now. Go figure!

We love Veggie Tales. Well except when my hubby gets the tune stuck in his head and tries to sing it all day, but can’t get the words right!

My daughter loves the Veggie Tales Jonah movie! She asks to watch it over and over again. I’m not sure if she is a pirate lover or not, but I know she’d love this film!
My son, Gabe (3 1/2) loves to take a hankerchief and grab a few butter knives and run around pretending he is a pirate. We got the silliest silly song count down and the pirates were “hosting” it…He had a blast and it kept him busy for over an hour!

Oh, I love Veggie Tales!! Started watching when my 8 YO was about 3 yrs old… now so many years later, we also have a 3 YO. The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything Movie was the very first movie that we took her to see at the movie theater. She loved it.
Oh my goodness, I don’t know who would like this better – my toddler who asks to watch “Bop eh Eh-ee” every day or my husband.

My family loves Veggies Tales. It is a great way to bring us all together and watch somethings with values. So much in entertainments is no appropriate for younger children so I love that everyone in my family can watch and enjoy the Veggie Tales. My daughter sings the Pirates song all the time!

We don’t go out to movies anymore either. For one, it’s so much cheaper to stay home, especially since we can watch a movie after the baby goes to bed without having to get a sitter. But more importantly, we just got a blu-ray player and it makes watching movies at home every bit as good as watching them in theaters, except that my couch is more comfy than the theater seats.
Please count me in…We missed it in the theater last year as we were prepping for hubby’s ordination and the arrival of our third child…There was only a week difference in the festivities..So please count me in!
