I have a confession.
I drive while talking on my cell phone.
I know, I know — I am terrible! What kind of a person – a mother at that! – would do such an irresponsible thing, right?
I mean, I should be modeling proper behavior for my children. Before I know it, Jackson will be grabbing my keys – and his cell phone – and running out the door. Do I want him to talk and drive?!?
But I can’t help it. I am obsessed with multi tasking. I can’t stand to waste a second. Sitting still in the car kills me. I simply can’t resist picking up the phone and getting something accomplished.
Apparently I am not alone.
According to an independent survey of 500 women commissioned by Motorola, 80 percent of women say they are engaged in another task while talking on their cell phones.
And of women aged 18-34, 97 percent multi task while on their cell phones, and 62 percent juggle two or three activities while talking on the cell phone.
But now, I have no excuse. Motorola recently sent us their H680 Hands-Free Headset, their T305 Hands-Free Car Speakerphone, and their Mobile Phone Tools CD to review. Both the Headset and the Car Speakerphone are tested to work with over 200 different Bluetooth-enabled phones.
I procrastinated getting set up though. I am so busy, I never have time for manuals. But once I finally ripped open the packages, I realized how ridiculous I was to put off getting hands free.
The set up was so fast, I was talking in my car within moments! And the clarity was great too. Now, I am a happy, hands-free mom!
My husband is trying to get his hands on the H680 Hands-Free Headset.
Since I usually talk in the car, I think I will be kind and share and let him have the Headset and I will use the Car Speakerphone.
(But I am sure nice, cause I LOVE the small, sleek Headset. It is absolutely tiny — a half the size of a lipstick!)

I am like you and hate to waste time in the car especially when it is crawling bumper to bumper. Our state just make talking with the headset to your ear illegal so a hands free device can help me make those quick doctor appts. and not get a ticket.

I wish Colorado would pass the law that drivers can only use non hand held devices while driving, like California. Everyday I see people fumbling with their phone rather than driving their car. It not only endangers anyone in the car with, but also others on the road.

I have to admit, I don’t often talk on the phone while I’m driving. I’ve seen how badly other people drive when they’re on the phone. I have occasionally made a quick call at a red light (“Hi, honey, I’m almost there.”), and a couple of times I’ve pulled off into a parking lot to answer/return a call. That said, there’s been plenty of times when I wished that I could more easily answer an incoming call or I need to make a quick call and (of course!) every light turns green as though they know that, just this once, I’d like to get stopped. I would be thrilled to have this hands-free phone so that I can multi-task without taking my hands off the wheel.

However, I just missed hitting someone because they blew by a stop sign-whith one hand on a phone and the other gesturing in the air. Any more, rather than watch approaching cars for turn signals or stopping, I watch to see if they have a phone to their ear. Back before cordless phones i could cradle phone on my shoulder as I cooked or ironed. Can no longer do that. A headset would be great. Talking while doing housework makes it go so much faster.

I would love this for my boyfriend, I get so nervous when he talks while driving. Plus they will soon be making it illegal here. A lot of people are mad, but it makes me happy!
It is now illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving in Nova Scotia so this would be great to win, both hands on the wheel, and still able to make or take calls would be fabulous.

It’s the law here in California–must be on cell hands free or big moving violation. I just hope it comes with good instructions as I am not very good at setting this stuff up.

my husband had a hands-free system installed in his car – but he parks at the train station daily so rarely uses it – i, on the other hand, am running errands, shuttling kids and spend lots of time in my van without one…hmmm this would be great to show him that he’s not the only one – i could have toys too…but really – how ridiculously great would it be to function hands-free!!!

I RELY on my car time to conduct my personal business and catch up on calls. Some of my time is spent in traffic, so I feel that making phone calls is a very good use of my time and does not compromise my safety.

I’m guilty as well. Like you, I figure I can kill two birds with one stone. And since I hate talking on the phone, the conversation can always be cut short by, “Oh, I’m here! Gotta go!”

Unfortunately, there is no time anymore for sitting on the phone at home – catching up with long, lost friends for hours at a time. We now have canceled our home phone service and save our phone calling for the car rides. Not the safest thing to do I suppose – but it’s better than never talking to anyone at all! 🙂

Not only in the car, but around the house… I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve got one infant in each arm, and heading up the stairs, when the phone rings… I know I can always call back, but with my hubby deployed any of these calls can be him.. This would be so great for us. Where we live you can’t talk and drive everywhere, so I end up cutting conversations short. I just don’t want to turn into one of those people standing in line behind you at the supermarket that starts talking and it takes you a minute to figure out they aern’t talking to you. Its amazing how many times I will turn around and say hi to get that blank stare.

This would be great to have. I have to drive on the interstate a lot yet don’t know where I’m going. Sometimes my husband will want to give me directions and I don’t like to talk and drive at the same time.

My job involves driving from house to house to work with kiddos who have special needs, so it isn’t unusual for me to be in the car for 2-3 hours/day, and I often need to make phone calls during my workday. My husband hates that I talk and drive, but sometimes I can’t avoid it.
