Paul Stuart Gilbey, 39, husband to Deena and father to young Hannah, Max and Mason, died as a hero at the World Trade Center on September 11. Having survived and escaped his office on the 84th floor of the WTC, Paul was killed when he returned to the south tower to save two women. A British national, along with wife Deena, Paul was in the US on a long term work Visa and had been in the country for a decade before the attack. His children Max and Mason are US citizens. His daughter from his first marriage, Hannah, lives in London. Known also as “Daisy†and loved by friends and co-workers, Paul worked as an assistant vice president at Euro Brokers. An energetic man who loved his job, he left for work by 4:30am to fit in a work out before arriving at the Twin Towers he loved so much. His wife Deena described her husband as “A very, very keen D.I.Y. man…He’d be coming home, and he would call me on the cell phone and say, `Dee, set up the paint,’… He’d always involve the kids in it. I don’t know how he had the patience to do it all, but he always did.” His daughter Hannah wrote this heart wrenching note to her Daddy.

Thanks for posting this 2.996 Tribute to Paul Gilbey. I became aware of him when his wife Deena was fighting extradition from the U.S. on a Green Card technicality in the months that followed 9/11/2001.
During that time Deena Gilbey became known on both sides of the Atlantic as the “WTC Widow,” and even though her two sons, Maxwell and Mason, had been born in the U.S., there was a point where it looked like the “enforcers” at INS were going to enforce the rules. Saner heads, public pressure and a few good legislators changed things, and Paul Gilbey’s widow Deena was allowed to remain here with the boys.

What a wonderful tribute to a great man. You did his friends and family proud in remembering him.
I know these tributes aren’t about me — but I have been amazed (I don’t know why) at how difficult emotionally this has been for me. I had the privilege of remembering Brian Bilcher, a NY Firefighter, who was my age with a 2 week old son and almost-new wife. I watched a documentary tonight looking for him, to see if I could catch a glimpse of the hero.
