For our Mother’s Day Giveaway, I have a perfect tie-in: a brand-new film that opens Mother’s Day weekend celebrating the first year of four babies from around the world. My kids are long past that age where every week seems to bring something new, so watching the trailer made me smile (and made my ovaries hurt just a little — but not enough!).
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Thomas Balmès, from an original idea by producer Alain Chabat, Babies simultaneously follows four babies around the world – from birth to first steps:
- Ponijao, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia
- Bayarjargal, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani
- Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan
- Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco
I haven’t had the chance to see it, but you can watch the trailer to get a taste of it. I’m not much for documentary films, but this one actually looks very interesting.

This film looks both charming and fascinating — and it’s a great decision to release it on Mother’s Day weekend! I’m personally really interested in child development and child rearing practices, and it will be a great experience to see the universals as well as the unique characteristics of the babies profiled in the film. I have not heard of this film…what a wonderful way to watch the faces of our children & motherhood worldwide! I would totally watch this in wonder!
I would also love to capture my own kids pictures to be able to keep my kids close at heart. I dont always get to their events, so would be nice for someone else to take photos there so I can have “memories” of them even when I am not able to physically go. I have only an old SLR film camera that is pretty heavy for me to use now. I’d really love a lightweight camera for when I do get out!
AND, I know a very special niece who could SO use the new baby items, when her little one gets stronger and comes home! (my youngest is 10 & my youngest grandchild is 3)

Hello I am writing to nominate my mother Corinthia Sampson for this great mother’s day package. My mother went through a lot of pain throughout her life and despite it all she managed to raise me and my younger brother alone successfully as well as help others raise their children. I look at my mother as a “superwoman” because many people call her “mother” she has been a counselor, mother, confidont, sister and friend for many that had nobody at some point and time. She is overall a giving person and never looks for anything in return. I just want my mom to take a break at some point and time but she always is somewhere aiding to need of others and sometimes never to herself. I love my moms spirit and I cherish her God given abilities. I thank God daily for such a peaceful and loving mother. I wouldn’t change anything about her.
