Are you jumping yet?

Do you have your back to school shopping list handy? Take it out right now and add this to the top: jump rope.

It’s not for your kids though, it is for you!
Here are five reasons why you should be jumping rope for fitness.

1.It’s cheap! You can get a quality jump rope for under $10. It does not require any batteries, electricity, or maintenance!

2.Easy to use! Just like riding your bike, you never forget how to jump rope. It may not be the most graceful thing you do, but all that matters is your effort!

3.It is so portable! Kids in the bathtub? Do some jumping. It will entertain them and give you a workout at the same time.

Throw it in the car on the way to soccer practice. While the kids are kicking, you are on the sidelines jumping.

Going out of town? Pack it in your suitcase and eliminate the need for hotel fitness centers.

4.It works your entire body! Unlike jogging, jumping rope involves both your arms and your legs. Work more in less time!

5.It’s FUN! Think back to when you were a kid and how much fun you had jumping rope with your friends. Even though we have grown up, jumping rope is still fun!

Don’t spend hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on gym equipment that often ends up collecting dust in the corner. Invest a few dollars in a jump rope and have fun jumping into fitness today. Hurry up though, they might be selling out!

  3. Love the jump rope. Use it for HIIT training and love to do some basic lifting in between 2 minute sets. Burns major calories.

  4. LOL i tried jumping rope with my DD and we did one of those rhymes to jump through the ABC’s I almost didn’t make it. It’s sooo tiring! but an excellent work out that’s for sure.

  5. I love the IDEA of jump roping, but errr, for those of us heavily endowed on top, it’s WAY uncomfortable! Unless someone can recommend an awesome Sports Bra for those of us over a DD cup. 🙁

I tried jump roping a couple years ago when I started getting interested in fitness. I couldn’t believe how HARD it was. I was winded rather quickly!

I still have the rope but haven’t used it for a LONG time. Might have to give it another try.

A tip: make sure you have space above you and on all sides for this activity. Also, lock the dog out. Mine tries jumping in the rope with me and he is NOT a good jumper! LOL

very good tips! i love the bathtub entertaining idea…i am always looking for ways to add more activity and model that in front of my kids!!!

  10. What a great idea. As a writer, I certainly need to get out of my chair and DO something once in awhile. This would be easy!

Sounds like a great tool but jumping up and down like that is far too hard on my body. I remember how much fun it was as a child though!

  13. For some ridiculous reason that never occurred to me.
    It’s brilliant!

  14. Wow… never thought about jump roping. You’re right, easy & affordable & I can do it inside, even when it’s raining. I’m going to go grab the girl’s jump rope! Thanks!

  15. Sounds like great exercise, but I’m tired just thinking about it…I need to go lie down.

  16. Doll Clothes Gal says:

Great advice – as I always say, exercise and diet will keep you right.

  17. Patricia Wooster says:

I better do this behind closed doors. With my lack of coordination and balance it wouldn’t be cute.

  18. I read an article about jump roping a few weeks ago and went to the gym before class to see how I would do. I did OK but boy do I need to work on it. I used to love it as a kid. I had bought one of those jump ropes with a counter on the handle and it’s not a very good jump rope at all. I would much rather have the ones we used as kids (the gym has those).

    Great suggestion.

ohmyyy talk about the most ungraceful thing i do! i wrote a post about the disaster that is my jumproping last year, it was hilarious! but i guess it could be worth another try! how bad could it be?

  20. I think I’m heading out to Wally to get a rope today! Thanks for the inspiration.

  21. Well it all sounds great but after 3 kids jumping isn’t something that the ol’ bladder can handle any more lol. And if I jumped rope while my daughter was playing soccer I’d probably get fined for interference lol. A 6 foot woman on the sidelines jumping rope could be quite a distraction ha ha!. But all you say is true if you can do it.
    Blessings to you!
