A Bride and Her Daughter

Flower girls are one of my favorite parts of a wedding.

I simply adore everything about flower girls and ring bearers, even if they might be a little wild during the ceremony and the photo sessions. Just more cuteness to me!

In fact, when I got married, I had a photo shoot three weeks before my wedding with my three year old flower girl. I knew the images I wanted to get with her and I knew that on my wedding day that there wouldn’t be enough time and she would be too overwhelmed.

My favorite photos from my wedding are those shots I did with her — three weeks before my actual wedding day!

Now, seventeen years later, my six year old daughter is jealous of those photos on my wall of me with a little girl who looks like she could also be my daughter. My Olivia wants to be in them! But, since I was married long before my Olivia arrived on the scene, having her as my flower girl was not a possibility.

So this past weekend, when I photographed a wedding here in Vancouver, BC, I was over the moon with the chance to photograph a bride and her flower girl, who is her eight year old daughter.

The two of them are so close. Their connection is strong and tender — and as beautiful as they are. It was an honour to capture it.

Yes, flower girls are simply divine. And when the flower girl is the daughter of the bride, I am in photographic heaven.

When i got re-married after my first husband died,i had my two daughters, ages 13 and 11,as my two flowergirls and they both were thrilled! They both wore cute, identical, white, poofy, top of the knees, sleeveless dresses with a flowercrown, lace anklets and white maryjane shoes. They both had made their First Holy Communions two months prior and per the parish dress code, had to wear a cloth diaper and plastic pants under their communion dresses.I had both of them wear their diaper and rubberpants under their dresses for the wedding and they felt really cute!

To Roselie S.-I have been to several weddings over the years and have seen tween and teen flowergirls dressed up cute and little girlish and they looked adorable! At the catholic weddings i attended, the flowergirls had their First Holy Communion cloth diaper and rubberpants on under their poofy dresses and most of them had ruffles sewn across the back of their rubberpants. The oldest flowergirls i have seen were 15 and were dressed as little girls! Two of them were twins in the one wedding, and the other 15 year old was in another wedding. The twin 15 year olds were in white, poofy, sleeveless, midthigh length dresses with matching veils, lace anklets and white maryjane shoes and they each had a cloth diaper and ruffled rubberpants on under their dresses that made them look very cute and little girish! The other 15 year old girl was in a pink, poofy, short sleeve, short dress with a headwreath, lace anklets with pink lace around the cuff, and pink maryjane shoes. She had a white cloth diaper with pink rubberpants on over it under her dress. The other flowergirls i have seen were tweens and a couple of 9 year olds and they all had the cloth diaper and rubberpants on under their dresses.

To Roselie S.-You did the right thing having your daughters wear their First Holy Communion diaper and rubberpants under their flowergirl dresses.I have been to a few catholic weddings and have seen the flowergirls with their First Communion diaper and rubberpants on under their cute dresses. The last wedding i attended was a catholic one back in October and the two flowergirls were sisters and were 12 and 14.They both had made their First Holy Communions back in May and their mom had them wear their First Communion diaper and rubberpants under their flowergirl dresses.

Our twin daughters are 13 and in the middle of their puberty that is causing both of them to bedwet. They both have been wearing cloth diapers and rubberpants to bed for about a year now, since just past 12.They both were flowergirls in a relatives wedding back in november and wore identical white, poofy, short sleeve, knee length dresses with a veil, lace anklets and white shoes.I had them each wear their diapers and rubberpants under their dresses and they felt cute and little girlish!

  17. These photos are stunning! That flower girl is perfect.

  18. What a wonderful keepsake for them on such a significant and special day! I agree that flower girls are so cute that they almost, but not quite, steal the show. I’d love to have a vow renewal with my husband and include my 2 daughters since they weren’t even a thought when we were married. It’s one way to keep them babies since they’re growing so quickly.
