Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?
For the last several years, my “official” New Year’s Resolutions have taken the form of goal setting using One Word.
But even when I don’t actually write typical resolutions down, I know that in my mind I’m making the most typical of all New Year’s Resolutions – To Exercise More and Get Healthier!
The truth is I’m usually too embarrassed to even write “Exercise, Lose Weight & Get Healthier” down on a New Year’s Resolutions list because each year I gain more weight and exercise less and my heath deteriorates. Like so many people, in January I try to resolve to lose weight and I fail.
So… I’m going to cheat the system.
I’m starting off DECEMBER with a quiet resolution to start exercising. I’ve decided I have to join a gym again. I haven’t let myself pay a gym membership fee for years because I don’t want to spend the money and logic tells me I should be able to save time and money doing exercise videos at home.
But the fact has become very clear… I cannot get the motivation to do the exercise videos at home! I used to use some exercise videos years ago, but lately, I just feel too far gone… I’m too out of shape. I need to lose 20 lbs.
I need help. I need accountability. I need to make exercise a major priority in my life.
So I’m going to make that step and join a gym in December — not in January — so I can sneak up on my resolutions and get a head start.
I truly believe that the health and safety of my family and myself are top priorities, so I’m going to take this step to invest more time and even some money in my health.
Over the past year I’ve been part of Master Lock’s Live Secure Safety Squad and it’s reminded me of the importance in investing in the safety and protection of our loved ones and our belongings. I’m going to continue to practice the tips I’ve been learning about security and also improve the steps I’m taking to protect my health.

I used to ALWAYS have problems with finding the motivation to work out at home. Once I cleared a good space in my living room and found some training videos that I actually enjoyed I no longer had issues working out at home! I prefer it now!

I’ve learned that resolutions are ongoing. For instance, I continue my quest for organization. It took me a couple of years to realize it doesn’t stop so I make New Year commitments. Saying commit, for me, helped me stick with most of my resolutions. We do have one thing in common though that health, lose weight thing. Nice post.

I have always told others to get the jump on the crowd. If not by starting with exercising and eating healthier, then at least mapping out their goals with dead lines. Having a plan is a great start as opposed to just saying, “I am going to lose weight this year.” Pretty vague, and doesn’t really set a tone.

I absolutely need accountability. I hired a trainer, and even though it’s a chunk out of our budget, it is the ONLY way I will exercise consistently. Good for you, starting early! It feels so good going into January, already with a good exercise routine in place.

Yeah, it’s a great idea to get a head start. Plus gyms will be full in January as always.
